My iPhone 4 - it's boring me.

Maybe it's time to come clean and tell this iPhone things just aren't working well between the both of you. There's plenty more iPhones out there man. Walk around a mall or an outdoor shopping plaza....you're bound to find another.

:D

Wow! I can't believe how defensive people are about their iPhones! It's as if the OP has personally insulted them or said their kids are ugly.

I understood the OP to be wishing for the iPhone to get back to the cutting edge of mobile operating systems. I know that Apple tends to be conservative with functionality, and I love that, but some people wish Apple stayed more cutting edge. If you agree or disagree, discuss it! Don't be whiny, thin-skinned, sensitive little b*tches and attack the original poster!

Don't be afraid to hear adults talk, remember, you are still smart, trendy, cool, and awesome for owning an iPhone.

SO you're bored

I’ve owned all versions of the iPhones over the years, also a HTC Desire just previously to purchasing my iPhone 4.

I’m getting desperately bored.

I keep looking at Android (ala 2.2) and the innovations / interesting new features they’re added, such as the “Google Intents” and i can’t quite see why Apple aren’t as exciting.

Don’t get me wrong, Android has some serious limitations in itself. Until 2.2 is widely available and developers have reacted to the ability to store applications on a storage card, the Marketplace is going to stay where it is.. Ever so slightly behind the app store, although this will be overcome in the next 12 months as development ramps up.

Still.. I can’t help but feel i prefer Android.. I won’t go back to it mind, purely due to the disparity in applications.

I just can’t get excited about iOS anymore, nothing about it is moving forward for me. Nothing exciting about it has ever been added, it’s stayed relatively the same since it’s inception.. Where is the innovation and forward thinking displayed on it’s release..

Heres the main things ii can do extra since i had my iPhone 2G..

- Copy and paste
- Record video
- Make folders
- SMS
- Threaded email
- Video chat

Hardly earth shattering additions to the operating system.. Granted, Apple tend to do these new features in a way that is much better than the competition, but that still doesn’t change the fact that innovation has been incredibly limited.

Where is the cloud to device messaging stuff (ala Google Intents), where is my mobile wifi hotspot feature, ability to refund applications within 1-2 weeks of purchase, voice recognition... Where are the new ideas from Apple..

I also own a 27" iMac - when you look at Mac OSX it's pretty clear that they've stayed quite relevant and ahead when it comes to Desktop OS, with companies like Microsoft looking to clone allot of features they add as a result. TimeMachine is a prime example of that, now that's innovation.. Why don't do see this in their iOS.

God knows, they’ve got enough talent, time and money to come up with some.. Why is Android forging ahead in that respect, when Apple had quite a jump on it before we even saw the G1.

I still love my iPhone 4.. I still think Android has to tighten a couple of bolts.. But it’s really not going to be long till Android matures completely, steams ahead in majority of respects and leaves me looking at iPhone’s thinking.. “Great p hones, nice OS.. But just lagging behind”.

I have to disagree with your whole post. Not that you feel bored, but all of the sentiments regarding your boredom. The Iphone os and hardware have been updated many times, since the original Iphone. Remember at first we didn't even have an app store. not included in your list of upgrades since the original also should include multi-tasking, and the ability to use the internet when your on the phone. Try to do that on a droid. I have used several different droid phones and the new blackberry torch. They all suck. The droids all drain fast, and freeze for no reason. The blackberry is just hard to use and even though it is new it is old and in the way with every function.
Now perhaps you aren't excited by the iphone, well, I can show you 10 million users who love it!!! The Droid you say, needs some bolts tightened, Then you haven't really used it. I run an IT dept for a small business. There are two iphones four droids and two blackberries. With the exception of having to tell someone to get an effing case for the iphone, we have had no problems. The blackberries took forever to set up mostly because the buttons are too small, and the typerwriter function on the phone sucks. The droids seem to crash alot, and also are not as nice to use function wise as the iphone.
So my only real question is what are you expecting from these phones? What would it take to make your boredom cease? Because for most of us... it's not the phone that is the bore here.

I agree with your post completely but I suppose we have to realize that, whilst being a great source for, inter alia, all things iPhone it is also a fanboi site. That is the nature of the beast.

When it all gets too much I then go to howardforums for a few hours :)

I'll admit, the iPhone UI can get very boring. The stock features are extremely bland and some times theres just no apps that interest me.

I felt the same way the last few days. I was actually in the verizon store today with my cash in one hand and a droid x in the other but decided not to do it. The grass is always greener...

get a girlfriend, then cheat on her with multiple women

tons and tons of entertaining texts messages, esp mms:cool:

thatll spice things up a bit

Sounds like the OP has ADD with phones. It's a phone. There will always be new phones with new features as long as the idea of phones exists and is relevant. When Apple and Google are competing for implant biotech market share, this whole thing will seem so Atari vs PS3 ;)

You know, come to think of it, being bored of your iPhone sort of is like cheating on your girlfriend.

When you first get it, you think it's the best thing in the world. After awhile, you start getting bored and want to find something new...that is until something makes you change your mind

I would rather have a properly working feature than a buggy-as-hell innovation any day of the week

FaceTime is incredibly well done, I can't imagine video chat being any other way.

I get what you're saying but honestly, what did you expect? You knew all about the features before buying your iPhone 4.

I use my iPhone for games, listening to books, reading books, listening to my music library, listening to radio, reading emails, surfing the web, taking pictures, making movies, watching movies, social networking, cooking, GPS, and more! There are new apps released every week. How can you get bored with a phone that will allow you to do all this? Wait a minute I know now. The iPhone does not have moving wallpaper like the Android!!!

This must be what the OP is longing for.

Seriously get a hobby. Go outside and play some basketball/baseball/football/soccer(futbol)/paintball/airsoft/buildamodel/watchanewtvseries/re-enactjackassmoviesceneswithyourfriends/etc...The list can go on man. Like others have said before, we don't think a phone is going to cure your absence of excitement in your life.

Well since you are replying to my post only minutes after I wrote it seems like you may need a hobby as well my friend.

I understand where your coming from. I'm in the same boat where I have been dedicated to the iPhone for the last 3 year. I love my phone, but nothing has been innovated in 3 years with the OS.

My biggest problem with google is them keeping all the phones they have updated. I would hate the thought of getting an evo this year and when gingerbread 3.0 is released for all there new phones, the evo wouldn't get one from anywhere from a few days to months. They have to start lining up all there phones and release a massive release for them instead of phone 1 and 2 is this month and 3 and 4 is next month. If they are worried about overload then do it on a daily release type situation.

I tried out an android phone and was somewhat impressed. I believe that with about another year of maturity and some imaginative and exclusive developers then android will be taken very seriously by even the biggest fanboy.

Equally i don’t like jailbreaking my phone, due to the thought of allowing somebody to mess with it in that way with a piece of software.

WHAT? That's half the fun right there. You have to be a total noob to truly brick it or have your account hacked.

I think you should separate the innovation argument with the entertainment one(the fact of getting bored).

As far of Android's innovations, well I don't own one and never played with one but if you could mention some you will help me to understand. Beside I understand that Apple have been playing the catching up game with some features and so far there was no new breeze software-wise; however, iPhone 4 display and camera are the best on the market. I can't look at my old 3G display no more...

Entertainment with the iPhone is huge. Talking about the camera again, I'm having fun taking pictures and using filters all day long, I got my games, my music and read macrumors on the bus, and I bet there are apps of any kind on the app store for your taste too. I don't think I would enjoy an Android as much, but if you prefer one why not?

Apple succeed on some aspects and may suck on other, same any Android based phone.

Let me give you some helpful advice from someone who has owned and used a variety of phones.

I have an EVO on sprint, and while I think its a damn cool phone, it is still in second to the iPhone, no questions asked.

Here is why, I have a rooted EVO and am running a custom ROM, I have ran many ROMs, and to me nothing comes close to the stability in IOS4.

Screen
Granted the EVO has a huge screen, but the retina display on the iPhone is fricken amazing, guaranteed that it will take at least a year to come close to the quality screen on the iPhone, it still is the most sensitive, and best looking one out their. Also typing is much better than the EVO, believe it or not, I can type faster on an iPhone than I can with the stock android KB, HTC Kb, and every other alternate KB out their. The EVO screen is nice, but I prefer sharper and clearer over larger.

Quality
The EVO is a very well made phone, and IMO one of the best hardware wise too it looks nice, and is very sturdy, the kickstand is a nice addition, but overall very well put together. The iPhone 4 is just down right sexy, from the moment you pick it up you feel how solid and well put together the hardware is.

Apps
The market is not going to be superior to the app store any time soon. Although more and more android devices are coming out, all these phones have different specs, hardware, all that stuff you still have force closing on apps. The app store is MUCH MUCH more organized, and alot easier to browse and their is much more. I have not used one android app that is superior to the iPhone counterpart. Facebook for example. The iPhone has had chat for a year? Android still needs to connect you to the browser to do half of the stuff.

Stability
Like I said, iPhone OS may be simple but it works right, and fast.
Core apps are much much better than android ones.
I still get force closing on apps, errors when connecting to email, just small bugs that shouldn't be their.
The HTC weather app doesn't even let you add custom cities, just major ones. And although you can use custom ones, you have to have your location turned on which hurts battery, plus you only get 4 daysv. 7 on the iPhone.
Their is no notes app on android, the music player is nice, but still iphones is the best. Although 2.2 brought alot of improvements, IOS4 is still waayyy ahead of 2.2.

Camera
iPhone is much much superior, its quicker, better quality photos and videos.
Evo 8mp still blury pics.

Don't get me wrong the EVO is fast and a very nice phone, but if you have an iPhone 4 keep it.

believe me I have rooted and experimented with roms and all that, but this whole "open OS" is BS, I still prefer IOS4 to android.

The iPhone is a more polished off device with alot more apps, and android is a nice OS, believe me you will get tired of it too, and will miss the reliability and stability of the iPhone.

not to mention that open source means you are going to have some apps keeps your phone awake 100% and kill your battery.

I got X-Plane HD 4G and spend my "down time" flying F-22's and 747s. It's relaxing and (for me at least) never gets old.

I know that's not what you meant, but I think with 100k+ apps you can find something to keep your phone fresh and interesting. :)

GL :)
