I agree.

I would have paid several dollars for BrowserChanger. I like Atomic Web Browser so much more than Safari. Now I don't ever have to see Safari unless I want to.

I only installed atomic browser yesterday and wow, it's so much nicer than safari. I suggest everyone to at least download the lite browser and give it a go. The full versions only 59p. Can't go wrong wit it.

What!?! No Infiniboard or Infinidock :(

Love those.

Also no Iconoclasm or Shrink?

I never understood Infinidock. That's what the springboard is for...why would I want to scroll my dock when I have a springboard? It's cool that it can be done. I just don't get why I would want to do it.

Infiniboard? Again, it's cool that it can be done but I am completely content with horizontal scrolling of springboard pages.

I am also happy with the standard springboard layout and icon size, so I have no need for Iconoclasm or Shrink.

Remember, this is my setup......

More free ram isn't advantageous in any way, shape, or form in iOS.

It's a delusion.

iOS actually handles memory very efficiently. apps backgrounded will stay in memory until more is needed by an app in the foreground.

Usually in computing, free memory is wasted memory. It's not going to slow you down or take more power to have less ram free.

I disagree.
1) After a reboot or respring, when RAM is at maximum (350MB) the phone works flawlessly. Sometimes if the RAM is at like 100-200MB the phone will sometimes lag when switching pages.
2) If the RAM is at 150 MB, but the only thing open is Safari (so the memory being used is just holding the websites in the cache), the phone will run perfect. Normal battery, normal everything. BUT, if you are at 150 MB ram, and the program running is let's say Archetype, or another game left on a menu, the battery will actually die quicker because it is running a game in teh background. So while RAM itself doesn't kill battery, having low RAM is often an indication of having a CPU using program running in the background.

All that being said, you are right in that you can just totally ignore RAM on the iPhone4. I am a geek and thus I am always opening and closing apps and freeing RAM, but if you never even look at the RAM (like my parents and sister) then you will not notice anything. It's because of this that I removed "display free memory on status bar" in sbSettings.

OP, this is a great thread and honestly one of the most useful ones EVER created on this forum. This thread or a similar thread should be the #1 Sticky in the Hack section. As it is this forum is almost useless for Jailbreaking, Newbs come here for help and end up posting tons of horrible threads because there is no thread on where to begin with the jailbreak.

I use most of what the OP listed, and will throw up a few:

AndroidlockXT-->create random patterns to unlock phone. I don't ever use this, but it's fun to show off.
Camera Preview Disabler-->removes thumbnail in Camera.app that hotlinks to Pictures.app.
Locktopus-->Create a password and choose which apps you want to require it upon launch. This combined with the above is the only way to completely secure your photos. (also lock all other camera apps as most can link to your photo album)
Clear Folder Icons for iOS4---> self explanatory
FaceBreak--> Easiest way to get Facetime on 3G.
Five Icon Dock--> Adds an extra app to dock. Now I could never go back to 4!
Five Icon Switcher-->Adds extra app to task switcher.
Frash--> Flash on iPhone! Only plays about 1 outta 5 flash videos, but when it works it works great and when it doesn't it doesn't negatively impact anything.
Frash Toggle--> SbSettings for Frash
Gridlock--> Place icons anywhere on the grid. (no need for iblanks!)
GroupSMS--> Create groups within Phone.app. Can send texts to groups.
Hide Battery on Statusbar for iOS4--> Self explanatory, I just use the battery %.
i4 Invisible tap to unlock--> No more sliding! Great to have a whole picture on lockscreen.
Infinifolders---> Unlimited apps per folder. (i seem to be slowly getting away from folders totally and will probably eventually not use any)
Lockscreen dim delay--> I use this in order to keep SpringFlash activated with the screen off. By default you only get 20 seconds and then you have to activate the screen. Now I can have the flashlight on as long as I want without the screen being on!
Multiflow--> Cooler looking task switcher. Shows screenshots instead of icons. A little buggy, may not be worth purchasing.
MyStrings--> The winterboard of strings. No more SSH to make the phone say "Slide to Party" instead of "slide to unlock" or "it's too hot, too hot" instead of "temperature warning"
NoCyfresh i4--> Need to download a JB app but don't want to wait for Cydia to be slow? SBsettings toggle included.
PagePreview-->Skip to any springboard page with 1 motion, can launch any app from any springboard page.
Remove Background--> Sbsettings addon, when tapped it closes all apps.
Safari Download Manager---> Download any file (video, mp3, attachments) directly in native Safari.app.
SpringFlash--> allows you to assign any activation method to LED on phone. I use short hold of sleep and combined with dim delay I can use the phone as a flashlight with the screen off indefinitely.
Transparent Status Bar---> self explanatory
User Lock Background for iOS4--> fixes unupdated winterboard theme
User Wallpaper 4.0---> see above
WeatherIcon---> Puts temperature and weather icon on status bar!

Enjoy!

I got Rename II to work on an iPhone4, and thank you for posting up this app. Works pretty well, and was just what I was looking for.

Thanks!!

RAM doesn't matter. The point of Apple's implementation is that you're not supposed to worry about it.

There is no point in having a bunch of RAM if you're not going to use it. There is no speed difference between having 140 MB of RAM vs 300. There is no battery difference. There is no difference, period.

If you don't want to start at the beginning of an app the next time, you have two options:

1.) You can manually go back to the root menu of whatever app you're in, Settings for example. (Please note, if you think this is too arduous...I can almost guarantee it will take less than like 4 seconds)

2.) You can install Backgrounder, and hold down the home button to quit the app.

But again...it's pointless.

Anyway...OP I like your setup.

I do notice a difference when the available memory falls below 140mb.... Apps take a little longer to start and it's a little bit jerky when playing around.

Having memory over 250 at all times makes the phone snappier.

Completely agree. Seems redundant.

My setup below:

BiteSMS
SBSettings
Notified Pro
TetherMe
Activator
Navigate from Maps
MxTube
InifiniFolders
Remove Backgrounds
Remove Recents
Make it mine
My3G
FolderCloser
iNzoSB for SBSettings
libstatusbar
libweather
PDF Patch
SpringFlash
WeatherIcon

Pretty much listed in order of importance. If worse came to worst, I'd be happy with only having the top 5. They make this phone MUCH closer to perfect than stock.

Thank you for posting this!

Now I know where to start when the jailbreak for 4.1/4.2 comes!

Once again, thanks.

Well, FolderEnhancer came out so I replaced Categories and CategoriesSB with it. Since FolderEnhancer also enhances MultiIconMover to the point of making it usable and useful, I installed it as well.

Because of how I am using Backgrounder and Remove Recents, I don't need Remove Background or Remove Background SBSettings. So they have been removed.

I removed AppLinks and its symbolic link directory since I have not yet needed the symbolic links it provides.

This means I added two new packages and deleted five.

Sometimes less is more....

No more custom folder icons, eh? I don't think I could ever go back to ugly stock iOS4 folders. Although I did have an idea for storing them out of sight, only for when I need them. For a short time I used infinidock combined with iblanks and dock scrolling, that way my springboard was cleared up and by swiping the dock I could access the folders. But after that I found out about Categories.

It's a great list you put up for those that are looking for great reasons to jailbreak. I also have a lot of apps, most of which are utilities such as yours to make the iPhone 4 just a better operating machine. Here are the important (to me) apps in my setup.

My Top Apps:
SBSettings
FolderEnhancer
iFile
iRealSMS
LastApp (fast switching between two apps via Activator)
MyWi 4.0
OpenSSH
TetherMe

The Rest:
Activator
AT&T Carrier Logo
Backgrounder
Covert (Private browsing in Safari)
Display Out
Folder Closer
Gridlock
Landscape Lock Rotation
LockInfo (and Lockscreen Clock Hide, Lockscreen Dim Delay)
MultiIconMover
No Bookmarks
Popup Blocker
Remove Background
Remove Recents
Slanted Lock (just a Lockscreen theme that I like)
SwitcherPlus
syslogd to /var/log/syslog
User Agent Faker
Winterboard
YourTube 2
3G Unrestrictor

And my simple Springboard with weather (G.O.C. mashup)

got mine on the 30th and it came with 4.1 and yes it sucks without the jailbreak especially since my wife is getting the 3GS along with MyWi which i badly need for my iPad

Simple indeed

Thanks for sharing all. I will refer back to this thread when I jailbreak!
