hopefully you have flood insurance for your house and insurance on your car

The Insurance company received my moms payment 2 days late (slow mail?). So for those two days, my moms car wasn't covered. It just so happens those two days were the day before and the day of the accident. They refuse to cover it.

It depends in Australia. Newish roads are very dark grey/black, while most roads are grey/light grey.
So the insurance company got your check today, Friday, I take it? And the accident was Thursday, the day before when you first posted, covered in poo. And your insurance ran out on Tuesday since your were not covered for 2 days - the day before the accident (Wednesday) and the day of the accident (Thursday).
If you have been honest with the events then I would say your mother had the accident on Wednesday/Thursday, knowing the insurance had expired your mother quickly wrote and posted a check on Thursday and the insurance company received the check on Friday and denied coverage for the previous 2 days.
You need to read the small print on the contract, they normally are very explicit regarding renewal and the definition of late payments. You have been given the fob off, now go read the contract and see where you think you stand and then call again.
That's based on the sequence of events you provided, naturally you might have things a bit mixed up with all the stress.
God, why are people in forums so damned cynical? What the hell is wrong with you that you would approach a guy in a trying situation by calling him and his mother liars? Does that make you feel smart or superior? Are you hoping to hit the jackpot in some ephemeral point system among previous snarky forum posters? What is it that people like you experience in place of what the rest of us call basic humanity? I'm genuinely curious.

You know what? Yes it can. Quit whining about a stupid car. You make it sound like someone died or something.
At least you are healthy and you and your mom were not injured, like I said before.
You could have broken an arm or a leg or you could have hurt something that won't heal and you could be crippled for the rest of your life.
Yes it sucks that you lost your car but come on there are far worse things that can happen in life.
Because it starts to sound like a scam. What are the odds, insurance runs on on Wednesday, car written off Thursday, insurance company gets check on Friday. Anyway I don't care, it was just interesting to see how quickly his story started to look a bit funny, and I'm sure the insurance company will be thinking the same thing.

That doesn't diminish his problem. He's never felt/had to deal with any of the above things, and this is obviously bad for HIM.
no it doesnt but its not the worst thing in the world. things can always be much worse so his response of "could my life get any worse" got a rise out of me
I hope everything works out in the end. Yes your life can be a whole lot worse, at least you don't have to help out around the house (financially). At least you didn't have to buy that car because your family needed it, at least you are healthy and can see a doctor when you are sick or hurt without worrying about paying a huge bill. These are things I have/had to worry about for years, but I don't feel sorry for myself, I don't think about all those things. I think about the things that are good and things which I prosper from. It's the "SECRET", maybe you should read the book about it.
Kind of odd that your insurance was "off" for a few days because of late payment. When I pay my insurance on the 5th of the month, it is paying for next months insurance. So I still have coverage up until the end of the month before what I paid for at the first is actually active. So when I pay on March 2nd is actually paying for coverage in April. What I paid on Feb 1st was for the coverage I am getting in March.

Prof, the main thing here is that nobody was injured. **** happens, on this occasion quite literally, but as long as it's only "stuff" that gets trashed you'll pick yourselves up and be back to normal eventually.
And yes I do understand that things are bad in other ways right now so this is yet another putrid cherry on top of an already mouldy cake, but you could be dealing with this car, lack of insurance etc. issues whilst also worrying about someone in a hospital bed or worse.
So instead of sitting and moping about this and taking the attitude that things always go wrong for you, you could see the positives and realise just how lucky you have been given the circumstances.
Go give your parents a hug and tell them you love them. The crappy situation with the car will still be there, but a bit of affection is probably what they both need right now.

Why does he let wars go on, why does he let idiots rule countries etc etc. it is a never ending Why... tbh I don't think there is anyone up (nor down) stairs at all.

Yeah that how I assumed it worked as well. I usually pay for the whole six month premium, so I save money and I don't have to worry about it for that time.
Just read the rest of the thread and like someone else said... yes it can, you (or your mum) could of been seriously injured or worse, you could be a starving child in Africa, or have HIV/AIDs. Stop complaining as no offence but it is just a car, a luxury compared to what many other people around the world have, I personally would be like f*** it just a car I should count my blessings (or something to that affect).Can our lives get any worse?
