aim me, The Cloak One

I can't don't ahve any sort of account but I am sure others will, read the Link given by mad jew, however the process is rather simple here, rename the folder called cloakone to exactly your short user name, then log out and log back in again.

The name of your user folder and the name next to the house icon need to be the same. So just change one of them so it matches the other and then restart.

You won't be able to rename it to the same thing because there is already a folder with that name. Don't do anything until we have worked out all the details.

What is your short user name?
To find out go to System Preferences - Acounts then read where it says "Short Name"

Rename Cloakone to cloakone and see how that goes. It's case sensitive, by the way. Log out and log back in again.

You've got me a bit worried because it should be Mudassar that contains your data and needs renaming. Perhaps it was a different folder that you renamed also?... :)

k sorry i didnt now if it was case sensitive, ok the short name is cloakone (lower case) and the Name is Mudassar (M is upper case)

hope that helps u that can help me

So in users you have a folder called cloakone, this is the one that contains the data. If this is so you are all set, check as mad jew pointed out that is in the correct case. All you need to do now is log out and log back in again and everything - fingers crossed should be alright.

so change Mudassar (folder) under users which has 0 files to cloakone correct?

No do not do that, leave the folder Mudassar alone at this moment in time.

Just check that the folder cloackone in home is the same case as your short user name.

Nope, change the name in System Preferences to Cloakone.

Now, go back to your Users folder and rename Cloakone to Cloakone_new or something different. Log out and log back in again. Now, rename Cloakone_new to cloakone, log out and back in. This is all assuming that the original Cloakone holds your user data. :)

Did you rename your home folder to cloakone yet?

home folder is the one with the home icon right, that has the name cloakone already the new one is called Mudassar its an empty folder under users so change Mudassar to cloakone?

Should be lowercase to match the short user name

nevermind, I'm too slow

ok this cant be that HARD, lol

So as of now Macintosh HD>Users> has two names, cloakone it has a home icon next to it and has all my files, then theres a Mudassar folder which has 0 files so u want both to be Mudassar Or both to be cloakone??

In System Preferences it doesn't have to be lower case.

Let them both be cloakone for now. By the sounds of things you might be right now. Log out and log back in again to see if your data and settings are intact.

Seems like you are getting alot of conflicting advice.

This is what you should do.

1. In Finder, go to Go->Go to folder, type /Users/ in the box and hit Go.

2. This will take you to the Users folder. Look through the folders listed and find the name of the one that contains all your data.

3. Now, on the left hand side of the finder window you'll see a house icon with a name next to it. Click on the name to rename it. Rename it to exactly the same name (case sensitive) as the folder containing all your data.

4. Restart your mac
