Yeah, you said that, but you don't need a separate charger for your iPhone, you can plug it into your Mac and charge it and even use it.

the person who told you it is a film may have been talking about the power support anti-glare film. they have them at my local apple store. i included a link to the website to see what i am talking about.

however, this is completely different from the anti-glare option apple has for the 17" macbook pro ONLY!!

this is an actual matte LCD panel with a aluminum colored bezel.

Also, if you go look at an anti-glare MBP at the Apple Store in person, you'll notice that they have the same silver rim and there isn't any "anti glare film" on those.

Apparently, MBP glass screens are "unusable" except in utter darkness. I guess all of those poor suckers who do use their MBPs in lit spaces are staring at oblivion.

As for the OP, I think that you need to show pictures, or else no one here can help you.

I cant use my unibody macbook in the dark because the screen is to bright that it hurts my eyes. I really hate the glass because I cant use it in the dark and I cant use it in the light.

i agree with needing pics.

as for the unusable glass screens, all i have to say about this is,

I like the glass display, i like a matte display. each have pros & cons.

for those who do not like the glass screen, that is fine.
you do not have to buy one, no one is twisting your arm. if you choose to buy one then dont complain, you knew what it was when you bought it.

further more, dont attempt to portray your opinion of the display as fact. "unusable" that is not true all.

your generalization of those comments may possibly deter someone in the market for one causing them to miss out on a really great machine.

i got to be honest, it seems you "matte" people are a small %, you just have the loudest mouths of the community..

I have glassy, glossy, and matte as well and find that the PANEL and backlight technology matter far more than how the LCD Is actually finished.

I do agree that Apple needs to use better anti-glare coating on the glassy MBP display, but they are by no means "unusable" for all but a small minority. Some people do have very sensitive eyes and perhaps do develop headaches and dizziness from glassy/glossy displays, but most folks do not suffer from this ailment.

Sorry if anybody felt offended by my comments. I indeed should have said that I personally find it hard to use in many situations where I need a laptop. Not generalizing. At the same time I'm nit sure my using the word unusable is a justification for swearing and insulting me. Not sure who should be called a troll here...;-)

Let's see....

The matte has air bubbles but the glossy is unusable.

sounds like a rock and a hard place :D

sooo...

it is 1:00 pm central time.

where are these pics the OP promised he would post today.

Of course it's bull as MBPs only come in 1 color.

Here is a photo of my "glare free" glossy MBP.

no,

the anti-glare version of the 17" MBP has a silver colored bezel around the screen. so that is possible, however the bubbles is what makes me call Bullsh*t...

Gunna have to say, coming from my glossy 17'' umbp got in july, the glossy is the biggest mistake I've made on any of my laptop purchases. Definitely worth the extra $50 for 17''s. Theres a different vibe I've noticed. Those of the 17'' crowd definitely agree the glossy blows, while those who have to live without the luxury of choice (13/15) have a majority vote of favor for the glossy. Now, it's easy to assume why?

On a semi-lit room, my 17'' still returns reflections that are just god damn annoying. You'd have to adjust ur viewing angles of the tilt and such, and still you can't get it completely off your screen but off to the sides.

Is it completely unusable?? no. But I wouldn't put a lb of flesh on any man who can legitimately believe to say that the glossy screen is fantastic, without doubting his ability to see the obvious reflections unnecessarily and annoyingly polluting his screen.

Do you like having to ignore things on your screen that shouldn't be there on the first place? then go for the glossy. If you've accidentally got the 17'' matte and its still in great shape, lets trade.

pic off web that pretty much shows it. I guess u need to own something thats not a glossy (that actually gives u the option not to) before u can consider yourself able to even believe your own opinion about glossy lol. Hands down though, glossy is beautiful to behold. definitely a design over function choice. And in terms of the color being better, ppl over at the graphics design posts are saying matte has better cfidelity.

If you're working outside go matte.

If you work inside, glossy is fine. I have a glossy and have no problems, and no my lights are not always off either.

Let's not get caught up in the matte vs. glossy debate. Neither panels are superior over the other. Glossy will reflect incoming light, matte will dull it. The only kind of "LCD" panel that truly does not have any effect to exterior lighting is OLED. I prefer glossy because I don't position myself with a huge window behind me. Anti-glare aka matte is pretty awesome as I have used both but some people prefer this over that. It's user preference, and the consumer market favors glossy over matte. That is fact.

Bring me this crowd, I would like to speak to them.

Dudeitsjay, I couldn't agree more with your post.

I wonder whether what you say about 15" fanboys defending their glossy MBP's also affected the poll at

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/753121/

Btw, I wrote a private message to the OP asking to post the long promised pictures of his "bubbly" MBP.

I wonder whether he/she's just a troll from the "glassy" front?

Are you suggesting that matte is worse for inside work? If so, why?

Either that, or he's too embarrassed to admit that he forgot to tear off the protective film after unboxing :)
