It may be accidental it may be not but we don't know because we don't have any pictures of the machine. But I'm more tending to beleive the OP because my friend had his MacBook and the palmrest was cracking. Is it the same as the screen, no but can it happn, I beleive so. At the fact of the issue is that the OP has been wasting his time and gas which btw Apple isn't paying him for to go back and forth between different stores. But I'm hopeful that his computer will come back fixed and working properly so the OP could put this ordeal behind him and move on.

Thank you Lozanjo, at least someone posts constructive comments

If you guys want pics I will post tomorrow as its 1AM here so need to get to bed

BTW what is OP?

I believe it stands for Original Poster? but basically the thread starter. So for this thread, your the OP.

OMG I dont belive this, mate, you can go round asking many, many people about the cracks theyve suffered on their Macbooks, heck theirs even people on this thread that have posted this let alone people out there in the Real World

I dont slam the lid hard, neither does anyone else, its a simple fact that the magnets are too powerful for the plastic case on the keyboard which is too thin causing it to crack, its called google, look at the hundreds and thousands of people who've reported this issue

The line on the screen? Can you please care to explain how getting a purple line across the LCD is classified as normal? Please I beg you, tell me? I dont put anything on top of my Macbook, who said I did? Who would do such a dumb thing like that? I put it in its Incase case and then in my Messenger bag THEN we go travelling

The temp is normal? So when your Airport card reaches 72 degrees let me know? Or when your Mac starts shutting down every 2 weeks give me an email.

Seriously man if you cant post sense please dont post, Im already frustrated at is getting this crap service from a once highly reputable company and you have to go make it worse?

So, because lots of people have the problem, therefor they arnt doing anything, it is apple's fault? It happened to my brothers macbook because he didnt treat it very well so that happened. If you left the macbook closed on a table for a year the magnets woud not crack it. The design of it my be a little bad but its the owners problem. Its cosmetic damage that is not covered by applecare. When its in a mesenger bag there is pressure from both sides. Repeated pressure to a single point can cause the mark on the screen. IDK about the restarting but my macbook can get to those temps as well. I have called into apple a lot about different program and troubleshoot and i got my old macbook replaced after 4 trackpad failurs. I dont think its crappy service, i think people try and take advatage of great service and soemtimes get denied. Try calling Dell about a problem. How i am I making it worse by telling you the facts about your problems?

To be completly honest, all that is accidental damage except the side bulgeing. The lid is not supposed to be slammed hard or stored with pressure on top. Thats the only way that cracks. Same with the line on the screen and the keyboard. The temperature is normal. The Genious bar was right.

Why do you assume he "slammed" his MB shut or stored with "pressure" on top ?

To be completly honest you just dont know do you ?

Mate, your digging yourself a bigger hole, why would someone leave their laptop closed for a year? What is the point in paying a premium for a product when you don use?

The design isn't a little bad its extremely bad, the Apple care Rep even said so herself

I never said it was a crappy service from Applecare, but the Genius at the particular store in London. He caused it as he didnt repair the issues plus gave back the Macbook in a worser condition then when I first gave it in.

My messenger bag is designed for Laptops, plus its in a Incase case as well, dont tell me that isnt enough protection. Now please stop with the wrong posts Im already disheartened with the Apple genius bar at that store so please dont make it worse

You have had some sore luck my friend. I would try applecare and see what they say. Usually they are much better than the genius bar.

Good Luck, and don't accept anything less than a brand new macbook!

the apple geniuses are trained to try to make you think everything is your fault that is what i am suspecting:apple:

Yeh These so called "Geniuses" seriously need to wake up, its people like you and me who have problems with our Macs that keep them employed, its like every repair is coming out of their pay cheque?

Hopefully Applecare will sort this out but the woman said she would call me today (saturday) but no one has, ah well, its technically building up my defense for a new Macbook!

Keep the tips comin! Thanks :apple:

Also, does anyone know how I can open up an App that allows me to see how many times my computer has randomly shutdown, the Genius did it somehow but I forgot how he did it

It was an App named Console or something but cant find it anywhere

Also, is it Normal that my Mac cant access the Apple website??? Ive noticed this as at home ever since I got my Mac back, I cant seem to go on the Apple website to book an appointment or even their other support page or even apple.com for that matter, I can access it on my computer which is on the same Wireless network at home, is this normal? I cant log in at all I leave it for like 8mins to load and its still blank but on my PC it loads in like 30 seconds? Could Apple stop my Mac from accessing the Apple website?

Thanks

Console app is in the utilities folder..........

2) Cracked Keyboard, widespread issue, cracking appears where magnet from Lid touches keyboard, this has led to issue (replaceable)

3) Due to cracked Keyboard, the magnet rests in the crack causing it to dent and scratch the bezel (replaceable with 2)

4) Loose/bulging side housing - on the left side of the macbook where the two screws are located, if you push it in, it will go in for about 2 or 3 mm, annoying when moving macbook as hand automatically pushes in. This affects the entire left side where the ports are also located but is more of an issue inbetween the two screws (yes it is normal)

5) Hinge is VERY loose, so loose that when lifting macbook upwards for about 3 feet (like off a table) the lid will close! (no idea)

6) MASSIVE overheating issue, CPU at around 55 degrees celsius after 1 hour of use only simple internet browsing AIRPORT CARD rises to a massive 64 degrees celsius in one hour! After about 2 hours, the CPU will be at 60 degrees and Airport card at 69 degrees! It seriously burns the table man you can feel the heat underneath and this is a thick table (depends what ur ambiant temp is...but 55 is normal...at least thats what mines at)

7) This baby has some major shutdown issue, turns off every 2-3 weeks or so randomly? (huh?)

Yeh Mate, sorry for the delay, Im meant to get a call tomorrow about where Im meant to go with My Mac to repair it, Ive got an Apple care rep sorting this out

Will update fully tomorrow on whats happened, sorry to keep you guys waiting, and thanks for all the help so far

HamzaB

Well, just got off the phone with the Applecare rep, shes assigned me someone at the regent st store to carry out my repair, their going to replace:

LCD (purple line)

Top lid (Due to scratching)

Bottom housing (due to dings sctraches etc)

But the shutdown and overheating issue is going to be looked into, so we'll see what happens, hopefully they'll replace the logic board but if anything else goes wrong with it after I get it back, then Im definatly asking for a replacement alubook

Will keep you guys updated!

Thanks all

Goodness......for what all those repairs would cost they may as well replace your machine with a new one...........

True
I would have just pressed on, but since the OP is in the UK im not sure if it runs differently than here in the states. The important part is that his computer is getting fixed.

Just remember OP, if they give you anymore bull, DEMAND to speak to the level tier2 supervisor, or someone higher to get a replacement.

Definitely mate, I was just surfing from it now and the CPU was at 84 degrees celsius! the Airport card was at nearly 94 or 95!

If it doesnt come back in Brand New Condition (as they technically are replacing all the outside and maybe the logic board as they dont know what the issue of the random shutdowns or overheating are yet) I will push and demand for a replacement Alubook 2.4

Will keep you guys posted, Ive got this special drop of service, I dont even have to book a genius bar appointment, just go straight in and give the concierge my ref number, check to know what they are going to replace and give in My Macbook for repair

Will keep you guys posted as im going in tomorrow

Thanks all

You should have a cloth between your keyboard/LCD when you have it closed, this will keep it from cracking. The cracking is mainly in part to carrying it around in a bag of sorts, and the pressure from it being closed and squeezed in a bag. The heat issues... well, it sounds normal. If it gets too hot it will shut itself down, istat is a silly thing to go by. Kinda sounds like you just want a new aluminum MB.

Fortunately, I dont have time to answer your silly unthoughtful post in depth but Ill answer briefly for you so.

Why should I have to keep a cloth inbetween my LCD and keyboard when its shut? Why should transporting it in an incase case plus messenger bag designed primarily to carry Laptops cause the Macbook to crack? Why should it randomly shutdown if I carry it around? I only carry the Mac in the bag nothing else. The heat issues are not normal. The heat is not shutting it down, it is clearly something else, a Core2duo processor can handle more than 100 degrees celsius of heat. And pleae explain how Istat Pro is silly? Im dying to hear it.

And yes in my opinion I think I do deserve a new Macbook, these problems are purely cosmetic, I did not want a new Macbook (see some of my first posts) But after what Apple has done and how it has treated MY yes MY Macbook not theirs, I think i deserve a new one

Please save anymore questions please save your self the embarrassment and more importantly, my time and the time of others who look at and read these forums. If however you have the dying urge to ask more stupid questions and make dumb statements please fire away and I will gladly help you find the true meaning

My god, not another of these idiots...............

It's like an idiot convention out here. The OP has a genuine case. It's clearly not his fault, and most of the problems he is dealing with are issues that have been acknowledged by Apple in the past. (cracking wrist pads, keyboards, warping plastic shell, the list goes on)

I've got a white plastic Macbook myself...yes it runs hot, but nowhere near the 95C the OP is being subjected too. The hottest mine ever gets is I'd say about 70C.

Good luck with all your repairs, hamzab! Keep us updated with the repair.

So you know all about the guys issues then, right? You know what apps he has running in the background, plug ins, widgets, etc.? These run hot, I wasn't saying anything against the user here, but hell they run hot, that's why they're not called laptops, but notebooks. Apple crammed some serious hardware between a seriously tight space, with somewhat minimal airflow to keep the aesthetics. He probably has multiple software issues here. I bet a fresh install would prove so.

The cracking top case... holy cow you guys are the true idiots. Did you read what I said? Nowhere did I say it wasn't Apple's fault, or a design issue.. I simply mentioned a way to help avoid this issue with the plastic MacBooks. Yes, it is caused by being in a bag and jostled around mainly. I have 3 plastic MacBooks in this house and none of them have any cracks in the top/keyboard area. One's a core duo, 2 newer ones. The oldest white one does have stress/heat cracks in the bottom case.

Just saying.. you guys seem to like to jump on people being sensible. Someone wanting a brand new superior machine to replace one that is at least 7 months old(probably more) at no cost is kind of ridiculous unless there is a real issue. Otherwise he should be happy with a warranty repair just like any other company would do.

Relying on istat for anything is retarded. it's a poorly written 3rd party plugin that causes more issues than it solves.
