Very nice, still can't believe they are letting you choose what one you get you could spec the hell out of it, 8GB Ram 256 SSD etc.

Doubt I'll get the same service all I really want is a working machine and to ensure that this ever happens again.

well there is some reason...i think they would not agree to me maxing everything out...lol.

if that was the case i would have a ACD 24" , 256 ssd, all the software...3 years apple care...printers...lol

not sure whats going on.....there leaving me in the dark...but i talked to an engineer...he took photos and asked if i minded if anyone came to my house.

so im not sure...it torched my desk...about a 2 inch spot. dident realize it happened i was not near it...but i smelled it quite quickly...now when i get home i gotta get them pics of the desk.

:|

You mean your priceless Louis XIV desk? :D

After reading all these threads, I am lucky that I havent experienced this problem yet considering I have my MBP plugged into the power at all times. Maybe I should start using the battery from now on... but then when I charge it... I wont be around to keep an eye for it. So better to keep it plugged in while using it so that if something like this happens, I can easily pull it out.

I'm curious, was it plugged directly into the wall or a surge protector strip?
I would be willing to bet most of these fires/melting happened when the cable was directly plugged into the wall.

mine was and always has been plugged into a UPS, even if it was plugged directly into the wall that would not effect the end into the notebook.

Is that not a downgrade?

What made you swing towards the air?

What were the like on the phone, what 'could' you have got?

i want the air for portability...the mbp is overkill....i tried the dual intel ssd's and like them but it was just somthing to try....(expenisve)

they were offering me 15" bto high end or 17" bto 128gb ssd but wouldent do the 8g's unless i paid 400 extra.

they agreed to give me the macbook air , super drive , match my adapters (i had 2 so they will make sure i have 2) and of course they gave me a brand new apple care package for the air.

you think i made the wrong decision ?

i already own the 3gs....maybe ill change it to bto 15".....i like portability....15" is a tad bit to big for me....

My man, high end 15" BTO?? Gotta go with that. Rock it off to someone and buy the Air or the 13" if you really want to (definitely making a profit doing this), but I would highly suggest just keeping the 15". Your call, but IMHO, switch your order.

If you want portability then you made the right decision. Yes, it is a downgrade spec wise, but you get a lot of other stuff with it. Personally, I would have gone with the 13" MBP w/Applecare, Time Capsule, and a 32GB iPod touch (seeing as how they really wanted to make you happy again).

I'm just sorry this problem is real.

Honestly, even if its only a handful of people that have had these fires, apple should be recalling these. There going to get sued. Its obviously a defect.

The Air is ok if you don't mind its limitations.

I was looking at one today and wondered why anyone would want one.

IMO it's a downgrade from any MBP.

High End Base Air $1799

CPU:2.13
RAM: 2Gig <---- can you even upgrade this - I saw no option to in Apple
Storage: 128 GB SSD
Ports: Mini Display, (1) USB 2.0 , Audio Out

Low End Base 15" MBP $1699

CPU: 2.53
RAM: 4GB (up to 8GB )
Storage: 250GB HDD
Ports: Gigabit Ethernet, Firewire 800, Mini Display, (2) USB, SD Card, Audio Line IN, Audio Line OUT

I wonder which one has a higher resale value used????

id go for the high end BTO 15"... man that thing would be a powerhorse.

ok,

changed my order to

15" 2.8, 4gb , 128ssd , 512 mb video , free apple care.

im happy, glad they took care of it.

also pending is a ipod touch 32gb for replacement of my desk.

Hi,

Maybe not in England where if someone was killed by an accident of some sort then it is normally the fault of the victim due to the fact that if he/she/they were not born in the first place then the accident would never have happened to them and because of that, they as victims (even if they are now dead) will have to pay compensation to the aggressor or guilty parties for cost of legal fees, loss of earnings and the emotional trauma they have had to go through! I cannot therefore understand why a company would play so low key and try and fob off an issue like this in a country like the USA where the individuals are brainwashed in suing each other right from the foetal stage and where the society sees it as a normal thing to do! Even over the most insane things - millions are usually paid out! Something like this, which is a very serious issue, should have any company in the USA crapping their pant's and shaking in their boots should it not? Can you imagine the bad publicity in any case, but God, forbid, if something happened to anyone, especially a child who may not know what to do?

Bazzy!

i agree...but millions is nothing to a company with billions in cash reserves...like 25 billion...to pay someone 25 million in damages is a fart in the wind.

Man...apple really took care of you...congrats....i didn't think they would just let you pick the replacement.

heh...they dident want to....

i met a customer rep who actually told me "i have been fully compensated by my free adapter"

i almost had a blod clot in my head...i was that pissed....and eventually i slept on it and waited to call back and got someone who felt my discouragement. i wanted them to assure me this adapter would make it to engineering and be looked at to prevent this,

he then fought with upper management to make sure i got somthing for my trouble...time...and property damage.

i thanked him for that in a personal email.
