Based on some of the comments I've read from higher ups at the BB forums, and the language Apple used "not available for preorder or in-store pickup," I think it's a possibility.

Apple knows about the BB situation. Many people who preordered the phone at BB weren't aware of the potential white problem. If white was 100% off the table, I believe that Apple would have already taken steps to alert it's customers. And no, one or two people getting calls doesn't count.

There is a FAQ on the BB forums, and they are being pretty open and upfront and not promising anything. But they haven't heard otherwise from Apple, and that gives me reason to hope they may be available in limited quantities, to Apple stores and BB preorders.

BAM!! I love you!

BAM!! I love you!

Haha...well it's probably partly just me trying to find some hope for myself..but the more time that goes along the more likely I think it may be. If not, it's all on Apple, because BB is being pretty open about what is going on.

Read this again, and if it doesn't make logical sense to you, you should probably just go get a blackberry.

FTW!

I agree that if it will be anywhere on Thurs it'll be at an Apple Store, BUT I'm not confident that would actually happen. I'll continue to wait for Apple to make this right. At this point I don't even care why, I just want to know when.

apple stores are our only hope at this point for release day. like the previous post said i dont even care what the reason is at this point i just want it already. can we officially name the white ip4 the crack ip4? and not just because of the color.... seriously people that really are set on the white you must have been feeling the way i have since preorder day every day since has been pins and needles like a crack feen.

Take a look at supposed stock Walmarts are receiving:

(stolen from here)

If Walmart is getting some then so will Apple! :D

Apple will be selling the White iPHone on Thursday!

Anyone that thinks otherwise is being a bit foolish.

1. They are building them
2. They are not going to hide them in some warehouse for a big 'white iphone release' date
3. They have only prevented you from pre-ordering them

They will be available and they will sell out. So you better be first in line!!!!

Gotta go, line is already getting long at my local store! hurry hurry hurry, lol

You people are DELUSIONAL. There will be no white iPhones on Thursday. Not at best buy, not at radio shack, not at AT&T, not at walmart, not in some special stash at the apple store. Accept it. Don't get your hopes up. I spoke to Steve Jobs last night and he confirmed it. Deal with it people.

Actually, no. There have been screenshots and even Best Buy inventory numbers showing white. Maybe you should accept the fact that NO ONE KNOWS!!! Either way, nothing is for sure.

You're the delusional one thinking for some reason that there won't be any at all, when there is no official work on it.

cool lets seee. the limited edition white lol. I still don't like the white one that much :S

I need to get my hands on it though.. to determine this..

Well if the white iPhone 4 will truly not go on sale June 24, the announcement would have been most likely -- hopefully -- by today. Apple likes to start their business week on Tuesdays, and an announcement today would give reasonable notice to those who assume that the white iPhone 4 is going to be on sale June 24. Since Apple just had an announcement today concerning the iPad's sales figures, it's unlike Apple to make a second announcement. I think Apple stores are most likely going to have iPhone 4's out there on launch day.

Before you tell me I am an idiot, hear me out:

The only information we have from Apple about the white iPhone 4 is that it is *currently* unavailable for pre-order. The fact that Apple hasn't made any formal, public announcement concerning the availability of the white iPhone 4 on launch day suggests that other than the white iPhone 4 currently being unavailable for pre-order or reservation, everything else going as planned (thus the white iPhone 4 will be on sale on time).

It is also a likely story that on June 15, Apple might have not received their shipping quantity estimates for white iPhones so they didn't know how much they could sell. Apple could have gotten the quantity numbers a day later, or even a week later, but decided not to open pre-orders for white iPhone 4s to avoid any more pre-order chaos.

EDIT: Breaking Best Buy has just announced through their FAQ that they will not be receiving any white iPhones. This further proves that APPLE will have them. Apple would have also announced the same if there was a problem.

I guess it's possible that white phones will show up on the 24th. Apple hasn't said anything regarding their mysterious unavailability, so perhaps they intend on keeping their promise.

Best Buy's updated their FAQ to say that there will be no white phones on launch day. I made a new thread but it was washed away in the torrent.

My thoughts exactly! The wording simply says you can't pre-order it in anyway, it doesn't imply it won't be available for purchase by walk-in customers.

It's funny. The people shouting "There will be no white iPhones at launch. Period." are the same types of people who were shouting "The iPhone preorders will not come before the 24th. Period.".

Lesson learned: You don't know anything more than anything else. You can speculate (means using words like "I believe" or "My opinion is") but you cannot claim something as fact.

Could not have said it better.

Best Buy just confirmed that they are getting NO white iPhones because of a manufacturing delay from Apple. IMO, that tells me that no one is getting white and that Apple's language of "no in-store pickup" meant these are not available for sale...period.

Whatever, buzzkill.

They probably just aren't getting ENOUGH from Apple to fulfill all the pre-orders they so moronically took. So instead of giving white ones to some and leaving the rest out there to complain about "why him and not me?" they just decided to yank it completely.

I still have faith. In fact I am now 100% convinced that they will have them, alas in very limited quantities.

Ok so in the light of reports saying that Best Buy may get a very limited supply of white iPhones on launch day, got me thinking... If that is true, I think Apple stores will have a very limited supply of white iPhones on launch day. I'll tell you why.

  1. If Best Buy will indeed have a few units, I think Apple will as well. A third party reseller can't possibly have something that Apple doesn't. Apple would never allow it, amirite?
  2. [REMOVED INCORRECT QUOTE] "White iPhone currently unavailable for pre-order or in-store pickup." Now that can be interpreted in a few different ways. The white iPhone is currently unavailable for pre-order (an order that ships to the customers house) and will be unavailable to pre-order for "in-store pickup". The NEW wording, in my opinion, leaves some wiggle room to actually have a few surprise units in store for immediate sale. I.e. "the white iPhone is not available for pre-order of ANY kind" doesn't mean they won't have a few.

Why would they do this? As the rumors suggest, Apple ran into a manufacturing issue and simply doesn't have enough units to do a complete/proper launch. They have a few hundred thousand units somewhere (I'm sure they got that far) but not enough to satisfy the demand. Instead of saying the white iPhone will be available in-store on launch day they might rather want to keep quiet so that people don't show up and wait in line HOPING to get the white iPhone. That would turn into many disappointed customers. Instead if they make it a surprise and allow loyal customers who waited in line to be among the first to purchase one of the limited quantity white iPhones, it would make turn into a feel-good story.

If the Best Buy stock rumors are true then I think Best Buy may have forced Apple's hand here a little bit. I think they wanted to hold back white iPhones but because Best Buy (and Radioshack?) took pre-orders for them they now feel obligated to supply them. A pissed off customer at Best Buy is still a pissed off customer purchasing an Apple product and I think Apple knows better than to let that happen.

Yes this is a lot of speculation and straw grasping but I hold out hope. I pre-ordered (for pickup) a black and I will go wait on line at the SoHo Apple store bright an early at 3-4AM in hopes that exactly this will happen.

We'll see, right?

[UPDATE]
More hope! If Walmart is getting some then so will Apple! (is anyone going to argue that with me?)

Take a look at supposed stock Walmarts are receiving:

(stolen from here)

that list is pretty said but then again it's walmart.. they are getting like nothing.. 4 per sore or 1 or 6 what the heck are they supposed to do with that

Yup, Apple would have also made an announcement (even before Best Buy) if they wouldn't have white iPhone 4's at launch.

I'm not positive, but I would guess they're supposed to sell them.

uh duh... but lets see sell 4 hmm wonder who is going to get those the employees who are not working that day will just go and get in early and buy them.. walmart does not have rules against that..

Uh no. It could have been a manufacturing issue that caused there to be such a small amount of stock that Apple couldn't give any to retailers and kept what little bit of stock there is for themselves. These phones are manufactured months out from launch date.

All the third party retailers are getting shafted at launch, including AT&T. Yes Best Buy purported stock shows much more than this Walmart chart but still the numbers are tiny compared to what Apple stores are getting. It's the big launch, of course Apple wants to sell as many of the phones themselves as it represents the most profit for them. Still, they need to keep relationships intact with these retailers so they are throwing them a few units. We have seen this before and we'll see it again with with future launches, especially iPhone launches.

My point in posting the Walmart stock was to simply show that they are getting at least a few, meaning that white iPhones will be out there but in limited quantities. Apple stores will receive ten times the stock that the biggest Best Buy is getting and Best Buy (from what we've seen) is getting ten times the stock the biggest Walmart is getting. Bank on it.
