All the third party retailers are getting shafted at launch, including AT&T. Yes Best Buy purported stock shows much more than this Walmart chart but still the numbers are tiny compared to what Apple stores are getting. It's the big launch, of course Apple wants to sell as many of the phones themselves as it represents the most profit for them. Yet they need to keep relationships going with these retailers so they are throwing them a few units. We have seen this before and we'll see it again with with future launches, especially iPhone launches.

My point in posting the Walmart stock was to simply show that they are getting at least a few, meaning that they will be out there but in limited quantities. Apple stores will receive ten times the stock that the biggest Best Buy is getting and Best Buy (from what we've seen) is getting ten times the stock the biggest Walmart is getting.

of course noting against your post :p. it is insane that they will get like 4 and 6 versus apples at least a thousand per store or more.. but most ppl will go to apple..

Yea I agree.
But that's exactly what Apple wants people to do. Seriously, around the time of the iPhone 3G launch I heard some numbers being thrown around by analysts saying that Apple was pocketing a pretty hefty AT&T signup fee (that I can't recall right now) in addition to the money Apple was getting from AT&T for subsidizing the phone. So it absolutely is in Apple's best interest (among other reasons) to drive as much traffic through its own doors on launch day as possible.

I should be able to call my apple store tomorrow and ask if they will have the white for sale right?

Best Buy just confirmed that they are getting NO white iPhones because of a manufacturing delay from Apple. IMO, that tells me that no one is getting white and that Apple's language of "no in-store pickup" meant these are not available for sale...period.

I dont see anything about the manufacturing delay confirmed anywhere. Forums? Is that kind of like all the know-it-alls here in these forums? Comon, on the FAQ it states they are not receiving white iPhones from apple, nothing about a manufacturing delay. Do you think the majority of customers read FAQ's or forums?

You can certainly try but in the past Apple has been very secretive about information like that. However, please report back here if you find out anything juicy!

[edit] Also normally they don't actually receive their stock until right around midnight before the launch and employees will be instructed to not say anything that might get peoples hopes up. They can confirm peoples pre-orders but that's about it and they simply won't know what they are actually getting.

True, as far as the real public is concerned they have no clue why there is no white. So hopefully they don't line up lol and i can snag one on launch....I really hope I'm not just going crazy with wishful thinking here...

This thread breeds an environment of HOPE! :D

It's right at the top, there.

"UPDATE 6/22: Best Buy® has received confirmation that, due to Apple manufacturing delays, we will not be provided with the white iPhone 4 versions for launch day, June 24th, 2010. Once we are provided with an estimate of when it will be available, we will pass it along. If you have a pre-order for a white iPhone 4, it will still be valid whenever we receive them."

Has anythig like this happened before with apple products?

Welcome to the New Apple.

Once a corporation achieves this level of success, its rapport with the consumer goes down the toilet. Look at Starbucks. It's some sort of corporate law or something.

Don't worry, this only creates room for newer, hipper companies to fill that void. It just sucks to wait for them.

You're quite the philosopher, but something tells me you wouldn't be so embittered if this particular crisis weren't affecting you directly.

And really, if it mattered that much, you'd be out picking up an EVO right now. HTC is the new, hip underdog here. Haven't you heard?

lol but it's funny isnt it tho? Now that Apple actually has a large number of customers (Hmm...kinda like Microsoft) they can hardly handle it.

:D

It started when Apple got into books and drove up the prices of eBook titles because of their desire to get their greedy foot in that door.

Please read the post again.

It started when Apple got into books and drove up the prices of eBook titles because of their desire to get their greedy foot in that door.

And you're a jackoff, by the way.

Apple didn't drive eBook prices higher, publishers drove eBook prices higher. Apple just provided the leverage they'd always needed - they were previously locked into Amazon's pricing scheme by default because of the lack of real competition, but with a heavyweight entering the fray the publishing companies suddenly found themselves with a trump card. So, blame the publishers, and their desire not to sell their $25 hardcovers as $9.99 eBooks right away.

And thanks, I'll take that as a compliment from you.

Explain the 180 flip in philosophy from itunes to ibooks.

Why did Apple take the Amazon stance of not letting the creator of the content set their own prices to now, with ibooks, go back on that.

Don't bother. I'll tell you. It's not a philosophy. It's just greed.

They only believe in what makes them $.

the reason im driving 60 miles to an Apple store is because I have hope that there will be a small amount of white stock in Apple stores only (not third party/phone carriers though)

Fingers crossed.

And if there isn't... I'll just go black. I'd've preferred white, but ive been without a phone for a month and it's killlllinggg meee.

I said a little prayer at lunch:

Dear God, please, please don't make me wait in line for hours at Apple and not get a white iPhone.

I can't imagine.....oh the misery

Because Apple was the first digital distributor of music to make a dent in the market and they were convinced that the music would not sell unless it had that price advantage. They sacrificed their own margins to achieve it.

Clearly, they have a different opinion on eBooks. After all, music and books are, in fact, two different industries.

An Apple representative gave Engadget this quote:

"There is tremendous excitement for the new iPhone 4 and we are working to get as many of them into the hands of customers as possible. At launch, we have the black models available for purchase and we will be adding the white models as quickly as we can."

Could the white iPhone still be available in some stores for those who pre-ordered? I must say, that quote dampened my spirits quite a bit...

What do you guys think? Still reason to believe?

Weak.
Yeah the music thing was out of the goodness of their little apple-shaped heart.

Apple did not give that quote to Engadget. They gave to the San Francisco Chronicle on June 15th. The editor provided an addendum that they guessed that "as quick as possible" meant before launch. Can't believe no one saw this before.
