Those who fail to understand that the word "plastic" indicates a wide range of formulas, a vast selection of modern high quality materials, far superior to plastics of the sixties, are out of touch. We are surrounded by vast numbers of high quality products that would otherwise not exist, if not for the advanced state of plastics today.

Only in America are people still believing that heavier, thicker, anything but plastic, is required to equate to quality. Time to get educated. Drop the preconceived old notions. Welcome to 2012.

heavier and not plastic = quality feel

plastic will never feel high quality, unless it feels like steel or glass. it isnt matter of R&D and awesome characteristics of plastic, but the actual feel.

its similar to the debate leather vs cloth on car seats
cloth definitely has better characteristics (because of the improvements during the years, you could also put fake leather in here) but real leather will always be more 'premium', like steel or glass

plastic is a great material, certainly one of the most important but it will never be premium

welcome to earth, no matter what year

and im not in america

The last two models of iPhone that used plastic backing I personally found terrible. If we get something nicer, I am open to it. Fact is, we didn't. Also, most other plastic phones, even the high end ones, are pretty terrible in terms of build quality. So no, I don't think people are talking about the sixties. They are talking about three years ago, and as recently as yesterday.
