Thought I'd give a likely idea of what we'll see in the new iPhone this year. Hardware wise.

- 4G LTE Support (with same bands as current iPhone 4s as well)
- 10 or 12MP Camera
- Redesign with a thinner liquid metal frame (possibly larger screen or smaller bezel)
- A5X and Quad Core graphics (obviously..)
- Enhanced Call Quality (they'll use LTE as the excuse)
- iPad quality battery life (9 hours on LTE, 10 hours everything else)
- Name change from iPhone number system to just "iPhone"

I think I'll be right, but who knows. I feel this will be a dull year for "wow" features other then a redesign.

I agree with all except the camera. I think it will remain 8MP but use some kind of advanced optics to improve it. As for battery, the Droid Razr Max gets 16-20 hours 3G call time...its way bigger than iPhone...but I still expect to see major improvements. There's no excuse. I could see 10 hours talk, 7 hours LTE browsing, 8 hours 3G browsing and 10 hours Wifi browsing.

Also I think screen will remain at 3.5

Actually, we're both wrong. You think it might happen soon, I think it might not. I just checked and in reality, they both currently match.

The iPhone 4S and the iPad 3rd-Gen list both 'Video Playback' as 10 hours.

This is the most basic of their tests. I think the reason the iPad gets 10 hours of wifi surfing while the iPhone gets only 9 is that the iPhone must keep the cellular chip active for phone calls. They'd have to test the iPhone in Airplane Mode to get the same results, and that would be dishonest.

So the difference between screen-sizes and processors and data connections may skew the numbers somewhat, but when you really compare them in a fair test, they're pretty much even right now!

Yeah, you're right.

The way I see it though, they're pretty far off from equal. If we look at the 4S in a "real life" usage stand point, we see only about 6 hours of moderate usage till the battery is depleted.

With the iPad, we see about 8.5 hours of "real life usage" on the 3g model.

I'm hoping we see that extra 2.5 hours of real life usage. This totally disregards standby time though as we'll never see that in the iPhone 2012 this year.

If the camera isnt impoved people will complain. We know that.....

Well I get that. There are other ways to improve a camera than increasing MP's though. Simple features such as taking pictures while taking video are super nice. Things like that go a lot farther, IMO, than bumping the MPs, though the latter option is likely easier.

It's marketing and we know Apple is king at that. If they say "new optics" and keep it 8 megapixels people will complain, hard.

A few extra megapixels gives them that sense of marketing success.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

I'm also betting on a 3.7-4.0" screen, seeing the competition. I think Apple is going to make the front and bottom bezels smaller, and make the actual device unnoticeably bigger. A larger screen is near inevitable seeing the competition.

Also 1GB of RAM and everything you said (not 10/12 MP camera, though, that's needless).

4 or 4.5 inch Display.
3 MP front facing iSight camera.
NFC
1GB of Ram.
A6 Processor
Hdmi adapter bundled in the packaging.
No more 16 GB model and 32 moves up as the lowest storage space option.

Ugh to a 4" screen. The current screen fits in my hand and I'm able to reach all of the screen with my thumb (although barely).
Also, this would mean that app designers would have to re-design for a new screen--at least if they're any good.

If they upgrade the camera, I would hope they'd also include better optics.
If they include 4G, will they have to make an at&t version and a separate verizon/sprint version? Or will they be able to combine the two?
Will the new design be thinner or will they make it fatter and thicker? We've got precedent that apple isn't adverse to making a iproduct a little heavier and thicker to accomodate better battery, etc.

I've become very tired of the 3.5" display in a two year old design.

Only two things that are important to me... a larger display & ditching the glass construction.

Recently I read a rumor that the new model may have a glass back. I cringe at that thought.

Only time will tell. My iP4S is not long for this world.

am i the only one wanting the screen to stay at 3.5? i love the screen size, with one hand i can do everything with it i dont want to give 100% of my attention to my phone. also love my glass front and back. makes it feel and look way more expenvise than the more expenvies smartphones. plastic looks cheat and i did not like the aliminum orginal iphone. glass one is amazing

Maybe at 4" is not to bad... That would be a nice size

-Bigger screen.
-No physical buttons.
-12-15mp Cam.
-Slimmer Design.
-Redesign of Iphone home screen Layout.

That's all i need for Iphone 5.

Do we really need a 10mp camera?

I'd like better storage options at the lower price point. 16GB entry level is something the original iPhone had a few months after launch. Granted that was top of the line, but seriously? I feel with all the apps getting bigger and bigger 32GB should be entry level, and 64 on top. As long as they can keep selling though, I am sure my wish will be only a dream. :(

please be trolling....

Those who fail to understand that the word "plastic" indicates a wide range of formulas, a vast selection of modern high quality materials, far superior to plastics of the sixties, are out of touch. We are surrounded by vast numbers of high quality products that would otherwise not exist, if not for the advanced state of plastics today.

Only in America are people still believing that heavier, thicker, anything but plastic, is required to equate to quality. Time to get educated. Drop the preconceived old notions. Welcome to 2012.

I think most people are kinda missing the point about battery life. I think the fact that apple has proven to find ways o maintaining decent battery while throwing in power hungry hardware. I think the same line of thought is going to be applied to the iPhone in the sense that with all this new hardware, apple will find a way to still maintain decent usage off the battery. Pair that with a larger a larger device due to the 4" screen, the battery shouldn't be an issue. Also, isn't LTE supposed to be way more power efficient than 3G?

For those that like the small screen, to bad apple just doesn't offer 2 models. Oakley does this for sunglasses and it's called Asian fit. I for one hate the size of the iPhone. I have fairly large hands and can never get a good feel for the phone. With the otter box defender on, feels perfect.

not if the resolution stays the same.

My predos:

'The new iPhone' name, ditching numbers
Keeps A5 processor
LTE - possibly as a separate model
Better camera
4 inch screen
Redesign
NFC

4G
The same camera as on the 4S
A6(ARM A-15) or the same A5, there is no need for quad graphics like on the iPad, so doubt Apple will include the A5X
1GB RAM
Redesign
+Something completely new, either NFC or home button or smaller dock connector, etc...

How about a rumored date of unraveling my contract ends this June I'am looking forward to all of these rumors and larger storage space From my 32gb to 64gb I wish they will make a 128gb but that is very unlikely we might see it in the iPad next year or the iPod this year with luck

My guess would be October 4th or 5th, 2012.
