If I had resisted the iPhone 3G urge in 2008 then my upgrade cycle would have been original iPhone -> iPhone 3GS -> next year's new iPhone.

Instead it became original iPhone -> iPhone 3G -> iPhone 4 -> whatever is out in 2 years.

$399/$499 IS the early upgrade pricing.

When can I expect delivery of my free iPhone 4?

are you desperate enough for the iP4 that you warrant a free one from me? you sure don't seem like it. this kid, the OP, seems pretty desperate....I'd like to help him first if possible.

Sorry, didn't notice that you listed desperation as a requirement. :p

Am I the only one who agrees with the OP?

Kinda. I am eligible for the upgrade so I am going to upgrade. If I wasn't, I'd probably just make myself happy with what I had.

And that means when the new phone comes out, he'll be even much happier with his upgrade (and get it for full upgrade price). I mean that's how it worked for me (I didn't upgrade to 3GS and now I'm eligible for this one. It's a bigger jump and I am getting it for upgrade eligibility price).

Guess I'm a kid though. Still a college student working hard through Pharmacy school. I'll take that, but not desperate.

he sure is trying hard. i sorta feel bad for him. in fact, i would have bought him one, fully loaded, but he's so hell bent on not wanting the iP4, so i won't. i'll give my charity to someone else who does want a free iP4.

I wouldn't mind a free iPhone 4, my 3GS has a crack right through the middle of the screen but I don't have $300 every year for a new phone :(

Personally, I'm glad I skipped the 3GS. The new iPhone is a much more substantial upgrade. The 3GS just didn't offer anything new besides taking video, which I barely use. Now with the A4 chip, the iPhone 4 is even faster than the 3GS! Add to that a longer battery life, the few features added to the 3GS from the 3G, and the ton of features added to the iPhone 4 from the 3GS.....WOW! What a great phone!

Thank you too. I'll let you know how much I'll like mines when I can pay 199/299 instead of 399/499. Just gotta wait til early next year.
I have never understood why people wait for the lower upgrade price. Unlock your phone and sell it on ebay. I have upgraded every single year at the higher price and have never been out more than $50 when it was all said in done. One time I came out ahead.

You've got your reasons, and indeed: if it doesn't provide anything you don't really need, than you can better wait.

And oh, I'm jealous at your 9AM-9PM schedule. With me it's 7AM-10PM :(

I think I agree with the OP... I will be getting the iP4, but only because my 3G's battery is starting to really annoy me. It normally lasts between 6 and 8 hours depending on how much I use 3G browsing but I have a 12 hour day.

My 3G is also getting a bit slow. A few crashes here and there, NO SIM errors... it's time for a new phone and it just so happens that my contract is up just at the right time.

I think those of you who are not desperate for a new phone would be better off waiting for iP5... Nothing really excites me about the iP4 when i REALLY think about it... think past the marketing genius of Apple. The retina display is probably the most exciting thing for me, but really.. I don't need a screen that good on a phone... I am not one for watching movies on my phone anyway!

I guess it all depends on what people use their iPhones for. I use it for emailing on the go and quick google searches along with phone usage. Others use them for watching videos, capturing video, gaming etc.... two different markets i suppose.

I COMPLETELY forgot my original plan if anyone here remembers my past posts about this.

1) Open new line
2) Cancel current line for ETF of $115 (billing cycle ends on 24, what luck)
3) Total cost is 211+26+120= 357 (400 at most if taxes apply to ETF).

Wow, what a waste of forum space. My bad, I apologize to everyone that wasted their time in here, sorry again. :(

But the thought of keeping the 3GS is still here haha.

Sensible. I think a two-year update cycle works quite well for a mobile phone. I've got the 3G, so can't wait for iPhone 4 to come out. I'll be skipping iPhone 5 and wait for iPhone 6, not only because the 18-24 months contracts somehow restrict you, but also because there usually isn't that much of an improvement between the latest 2 generations of iPhones.

The same works for me for MacBook Pros, 2 year update cycle is working quite well. it means I can sell my macbook pros with 1 year of apple care left on them. This gives buyers peace of mind and means I can achieve a good sales price.

I agree 100% with the OP. My 3GS 32Gb jailbroken serves me just fine. Any complaints I may have about it are not really complaints but just minor wants. I still haven't decided yet. On one hand I'm perfect satisfied with what I got now, but on the other hand the new iPhone is freaking sweet and it's hard to resist new shiny devices.

Also being that I'm not due for an upgrade yet and will be able to use update to the new OS is a huge factor. Not to mention my 3GS is still in mint condition. Most likely will also wait for next year's iPhone, but temptation is killing me.

I'm glad I'm not such an easily swayed consumer as 99% of this board is... I am very happy with my device right now and don't need to drop some more bills on another one just because it's new and flashy. Why would I pay more for the same amount of storage I have right now, and some features I'm not all that hyped about? I'll upgrade next year, thanks!

I agree with tc. why do an early upgrade for $200 more and lose unlimited data (if you are on AT&T)?

Just wait 1 year for the inevitable iphone 5 or w/e with better specs.

I'm glad I'm on the bi-annual upgrade cycle. Apple's iPhone releases have followed a tick-tock cycle. The first iPhone, then the 3G was a great improvement, the 3Gs was a minor improvement, the iPhone 4 was a huge improvement, and I expect the iPhone 5 to be a minor improvement to the iPhone 4, thus I'll wait til the iPhone 6 and won't feel that I'm missing out on anything.

Thinking about it, I have had every iPhone and iPod touch version so far. I just got my 3GS two days ago, so I'm not in any hurry to upgrade. When the new iPhone is unlocked, I will probably buy it.

My wife is still using the original iPhone and I'm using a Windows Mobile 6.1 phone, so this is quite an upgrade for both of us.

+1 I skipped the 3GS, and stayed 3G. iPhone 4 is a big leap, I'm looking forward to my new phone.

+2 - I skipped 3GS because my jailbroken 3G, software wise, could do more then I could've imagined. Now with a nice hardware update, it'll be nice to have a jailbroken iPhone 4 to mess around with.

Awesome!

I'm happy to hear you're skipping iPhone 4!

Should make it easier for me to grab mine!
LOVE the build, thinness, better camera, HD video!

Killer all in one device that just keeps getting better and better!

Im sticking with my 3GS 32gb...and just update the OS...it will still be a great phone, and then when next years phone comes out it will be a big step from the 3gs to the 5(or whatever they call it)...im in the Uk and have 4 contracts with vodafone....1 due for upgrade in july...im going to try the HTC i think just to see what its like compared to the iphone 4...can always take it back within a month and get a 4...after all if 3gs owners can upgrade the software i dont see the point in just changing for the hardware when it still basically looks the same!!

why do an early upgrade for $200 more and lose unlimited data

Guys...

If you think AT&T is going to keep Unlimited Data around, mark my words, the rug will get pulled out from under you with no notice.

Unlimited data on AT&T won't be around in June 2011. Probably not on any major carrier.
