And by the way I used cut function for the first time in writing this reply. Very neat function!

sorry about paragraphs and what the heck it wasnt added to mine you are no better than the guy u argued with. were you there with me when i tried to use visual voicemail ?were you on the phone with the lady at At&T who said the guy forgot to add it to the account? i think you yourself would no first hand about bad service with At&t. it wasnt added to my plan buddy i feel like you did at the At&T store lol

Um. Still hard to read.

I'm just saying that I don't think that there's a checkbox that needs to be checked by the sales guy in order to ensure that Visual Voicemail will work. It should just work once the iPhone is activated. It's a part of the iPhone data package. That sales guy didn't forget to do something. I'd say it's more likely that something got screwed up in AT&T's system.

But, whatever, I'm not going to argue with you over it. Have a nice night.

Walking away...... (see, I can be polite).

Do you understand how a forum works? Why do I need to not reply? Is there a rule I missed?

If this salesman was giving people misinformation to scare them into getting the apple care now then the OP has every right to correct him and let his manager know what his employee is doing. Would you want your mom or anyone who doesn't know how this works to get ripped off by this jerk. I'm all for walking away from a situation when you can but this is different. If you saw someone steal something would you say anything or not want to get involved, I would hope most people would say something.

*clap clap clap* Exactly :)

Saw something similar today!

I was witness to a very similar incident today.

My daughter was at the Happy Meal toy display case talking to another 4 year old. For some reason, this little boy kept insisting the one creature was a chipmunk. My daughter was livid!

Long story short, I had to drag her out of McD screaming, "Daddy! He said it was a chipmunk, but it's a squirell!!! Chipmunks have different tails!!!"

Riiiight. I get it. You're comparing me to a child. Fun-ny.

I think that the saddest part of the story is that you allow your daughter to eat McDonalds.

I think I see a parallel between a certain poster here and a certain sales guy. Some people are just aggressive, rude and stubborn I guess. Some people just like to criticize and point out little insignificant things to make themselves feel better. But I have nothing more to say about it. As I said to that certain poster:
Respond if you'd like to, but I will ignore your follow-up posts due to your rudeness.
I'm walking away........

I've decided to stop making any further posts that defend myself. What's the point? Someone will come along, and decide that they didn't like the way I typed an explanation and then flame me for it. I think that the majority of you understand what happened (not that I was looking for that when I posted- I merely wanted to share). I feel that I've explained everything that occurred the best that I can, and I guess not everyone can fully understand being in a situation like that. There will always be people that will look to overanalyze and criticize any situation or story.

Anyways, I plan on speaking with the manager later this morning, and I will post the contents of that conversation for those who are interested.

Don't take it that way. Some things are so much a part of who we are as animals, that we react the same way whether we are 4 or 24.

And listen...fast food happens. Are you saying you never had mcnuggets as a kid?

Your attempted humor was not enlightening.

Don't take it that way. What I ate as a kid will have no bearing on what my kids will eat.

Im very much used to these kinds of people now i see them at the Apple Store and other resellers and i just shrug them off...with the knowledge that i'm right.

That's very charming:)

I spoke with the Store Manager.

She wasn't aware of the situation.

She was very nice, she listened to what happened, and apologized a few times. She said she was shocked that one of her employees behaved that way and said that she will have a talk with him. I told her that I wasn't looking for him to lose his job over this, but that he really needs to be reminded on how to interact with customers. She repeated a few times how shocked she was.

She told me to come back to the store this afternoon so she could apologize in person. She also offered me an iPhone case of my choice as a gesture of goodwill (since that was the reason I was there in the first place). I thanked her, but told her that the case isn't necessary- I wasn't trying to get free stuff out of this. The point of my call was to inform her of what happened. I also told her that I wouldn't be coming to the store this afternoon, but maybe some time in the future I'll stop in and see if she's there.

So that's that.

I think if I was in your shoes, I would have tried to correct him as well since I hate when people like that come up to you and try to sell you something you don't need. Especially when they use scare tactics.

I wouldn't have gone so far as to bring up the apple website (it must have been an awkward minute as you loaded it up on the phone) or called Apple to ask, though... but that's just me.

The phrase "choose your battles" comes to mind... you're clearly comfortable going all the way with this and that's cool. Most people aren't that dedicated though.

And no, you will never make him admit that he was wrong... it's just a shame they made you feel like the crazy person causing trouble when you were really just standing up for yourself. I'd never shop at that store again.

I try to avoid Apple Stores anyway - the checkout process is painful. Just what are they saving by using those handhelds? It took 15 minutes for me to get through the checkout process for my 3GS, and 45 minutes for my Macbook Pro!

I was on my 3GS, so it was very snappy. :D

This happened at an AT&T Store, not an Apple Store.

Oops... I never had a problem with the AT&T store around here, but that has nothing to do with AT&T really.

Years ago when I went to a Verizon store to become a new customer, I was waiting for my turn (for 30+ min) and these people came in who were clearly friends with the employees... and they got to cut in line... I walked out, never to return.

You probably would have "made a scene" :D

Funny. :D

I wouldn't have made a scene, but I would have told the store manager before leaving. If I really wanted Verizon service, I would have either told the manager or called Verizon to tell them that if they want me as a customer, they'd better offer me something special.

I guess I just don't like being treated like crap by a company or their employees, especially when I'm giving money to that company. I give AT&T around $1,500 a year for our family plan. I think that deserves proper service.

A little perspective:

In the grand scheme of things, having a dumb sales rep push a warranty on you with misinformation is really not that big a deal.

Certainly, when I think of "ridiculously horrible" experiences, I don't really think of any involving retail shopping.

If this is all it takes to give you a "ridiculously horrible" shopping experience, I predict a great deal of misery for you in your future life. Relax. The guy was wrong. So what. He makes money if he sells you the warranty. You tell him no and leave, that's it. Calling apple on speakerphone was wholly unnecessary. Just relax and worry about yourself--other people will take care of THEMselves.

But for someone who usually isn't the annoying customer who always gets in arguments with employees, it's something noteworthy and probably a really strange experience.

I've played a ridiculously horrible basketball game in my life, does that mean there is a lot of misery in my future life? No, because I'm talking about basketball, not it being a ridiculously low point in my life overall. I don't think Surely ever said that this was a ridiculously horrible part in his life, just that it was a bad retail experience.

Calling apple on speakerphone was wholly unnecessary.

I think it's hilarious. From reading the original post it really seems like the quick escalation of the argument was completely organic, not the part of Surely trying to pick a fight. It was a funny story, maybe you're the one who needs to relax?

OP was completely in the right in this situation.

The salesman is in the wrong. The customer is always right and for him to let it escalate into what it did, he deserves some form of punishment.

^^^^^^^^^ I'm honored to have played such an important role in your life.

Yes, Badandy is spot on. I couldn't have responded to that post better myself.

To describe the escalation as being organic is exactly right.

Why in the world is this thread 4 pages long? Its about an AT&T employee that didn't know something, and an self absorbed douchenozzle that will actually call people just to prove himself right, and make sure everyone knows that the other guy was wrong.

I hope you don't go out of your way every time someone is wrong to prove it to everyone. You won't have many friends, and you will be wasting a lot of time. People make mistakes, get over it.

Do you watch Jeopardy and call everyone you know every time you get the right answer? Maybe you could post about it on this forum.

I do watch Jeopardy! When my answer doesn't match the show's answer, it's because the show is wrong, not because I am wrong. Geez.....

Wow, you are one angry dude.

Why in the world is this thread 4 pages long?

I think it's partly because some people feel compelled to call the OP names like "self absorbed douchenozzle" because an AT&T employee started an argument with him.

What's interesting about the original post is that I had the same thing told to me at the AT&T store where I purchased our 2 3GS phones last Friday. The salesman insisted that I must purchase Applecare within the first 30 days or we were SOL... said it was Apple's new policy. I planned to follow up but forgot about it. Maybe it's something that AT&T was using as an upsell ploy?
