So if I select this option at checkout and the stores get them in stock before June 2. I'll basically have one reserved and won't have to check for stock everyday?

yes and no. I would still check the stock daily. For example, if you picked in store pick up and your time frame is 4-6 weeks, they have a mac for "you". You could still get passed by someone who checks the stock.

I checked today for the giggles, says June 3rd for store pickup now. OOOOO a day extra :D:p

Since you have some experience with this practice- what would you say is the best way to keep track of new inventory? Should I periodically proceed to checkout in the apple store and check what the "Personal Pickup Availability" page shows for each store? Or is there a better way to be alerted to an available Macbook that I want to purchase online and pickup at the store...

You don't need to get to checkout. You select the configuration on the first product page then click on the link to check local availability. Enter a zip code in the pop-up and it will show you whether any stores have it in the store for immediate pickup or whether it's a ship-to-store situation.

Since it's that easy, you can check as often as you want. I usually check in the morning and then in the mid-afternoon because sometimes deliveries are made (or, possibly, prior deliveries are unpacked) in the afternoon.

likewise. Moring and afternoon. I think tomorrow we will see some show as long as the pick up orders come through.

I have been doing that as well. The only reason I kept checking the local availability in the checkout section is because there are actual links next to each store that, when selected, display the availability and timeline associated with each store (they all show June 3rd). I don't know if this is advatangeous, it just seemed to have more information so I assumed it might be more up to date.

You would be shocked at how fast the main page updates. When I was trying to score an iPad mini, I would enter by zip code and between refreshes more stores who show stock.

Sounds good, lets go to battle. I was online right off the bat when it was at 1-3 days but I was traveling without my Mac and decided to wait instead of ordering uncomfortably from the phone and never anticipated the shipping estimate to slip as much as it did for a new laptop launch. The healthy competition and collective mac hunt that ensues have inspired me to construct a cheesy pun on a quote from an equally cheesy film: "But I do know, here today, that the 'Mac' Knights will emerge victorious once again."

likewise. I saw 1-3 days and just thought, "I will get one in store after work." Blah, now I am highly considering ebay if they are not in stock by the weekend.
