Hi guys, I had some thoughts on Beats1 and Apples original video content push, and I would love to hear what other people think.

Apple Music Connect:
The public network for artists launched with Apple Music was really doomed from the beginning, and I dont understand what the Apple execs were thinking. I never look at Connect content, its hidden deep within the app and you can get better info about your bands on other web platforms.

But I believe there is a need that Apple could fill with a similar service: IMDB for music!

I use IMDB all the time to check when movies came out, who plays who, what other movies they have played inn etc. There is no service out there for music as well known as IMDB, and Apple is in the perfect position to make that service. They have been involved with music for the last 15 years and should have a decent database of all musicians etc.

What do you guys think, would you use an IMDB for music connected to Apple Music?

Beats 1 Radio:
I really like the concept of a Radio station that plays good music without horrible commercials and DJs. It would be a nice and simple way to discover new music (1 click to play). The problems is, I really hate 95% of the music they play in Beats1 Radio. I believe my music taste is pretty wide, but I find the music they play there to be so obscure and narrow.

I would love a Beats2 Radio that would play broad popular nice music from the last 30 years that "most people" would like, some rock, som pop, some 1 hit wonders, mix of genres. I know of several regular radio stations that manages this so it shouldn't be that hard, and more people would enjoy it.

What do you guys think?

Apple Musics TV push:
First of all, I hate todays regular TV. There is so much trash and horrible commercials I can't stand watching it. I have watched most of Apple Musics own programs: Music documentaries, planet of the apps (POA), carpool karaoke. I will discuss below some of the programs (like Carpool karaoke and POA). What I have noticed is how I find the quality of the programs to be above most of what you'll see in regular television. They are not trying to create controversy or invoke anger in their programs like much of what you see today. Their shows are beautifully crafted with talented people, grounded humor and a pleasant atmosphere and that is something I really miss. There are TV channels out there that does this well like BBC and NRK (Norwegian states channel) and probably many more, but most of todays TV is ****.

before I continue let me say a little about POA and Carpool Karaoke

POA: I started watching this show with some expectations of what it would be like: A show about developers, developing for developers. I was very wrong, so I got irritated half way through the first episode and stopped watching. Later on I decided to show my wife the show. She started watching without any expectations and she really like it! She was talking about how she found some of the app ideas super smart or not so smart, made fun of the judges and she was excited to see if they would get funding from the VCs. With a fresh view of the program, I started to enjoy it as well, I just had to let go of the perception that this show was supposed to be about app development, and then it wasn't bad at all. Im not saying its perfect, I think definitely it lacked variety as the episodes were all structured the same.

Carpool Karaoke: Im 32 years old, and the few episodes that I have seen related very well with me (Will smith and Metallica). Again, its just pleasant to watch I nicely crafter program, with talented people, with some non-controversial non-political humor, with a peaceful atmosphere for once. So, I liked it. Am I going to discuss this show around the water-cooler at work? no Im not, but it is a pleasant program

Ok, with this in mind heres want a predict and hope:
Apple will create a Beats TV channel and this channel will resemble to old MTV. Picture a TV channel with Music videos, interviews, documentaries, some TV shows like POA and Carpool Karaoke. No obnoxious commercials and quality tv programs: no kardashian, Ice road truckers, pawn stars etc.

So what do you guys think, would you watch a Beats 1 TV channel (or maybe just keep it on in the background while doing other stuff) if it was like the old MTV?

IMDB for music is a good idea. It would have to include everyone involved in the song/album.. writers, producers, engineers, ..etc.

Beats1: Beats1 has it's moments. I know if I tune in for 30 minutes at any given time of the day, I'll usually find something I like. They play music from a variety of artists, but it feels like music is moving too fast. There seems to be new music out every other day. Beats1 has showed me there are more artists making the kind of music I like, than I realaized, from across the world, and even in the US.

BeatsTV : Its hard for me to get into anything on TV these days. I think most of my time is spent browsing youtube podcasts and interviews. I realized how dope the 80s and 90s were growing up having music video shows giving us the goods. The only downside to those days was that you could've missed something if you weren't tuning. BeatsTV would be dope because the shows can be archived and on demand. I'm hoping for some more documentatreis as well, also a few music video shows, one for urban music, adult contemporary music, and a countdown show of todays pop music.

Beats 1 is so narrow. All the time I have Apple Music I listened a total of 10 seconds even forgetting that they have Beats 1 live station. Really most music today is horrible and to not have other Beats stations 2, 3, 4 for jazz, country etc is a no go.

And no it is not my age. All music was good even my parents and grandparents but after 2006 as the 2000's declined before somewhat it turned to a steaming pile of garbage. all electro house garbage which is the number one reason why I even stopped listening to Trance or what it is now Trouse which sounds just like mainstream music. Smooth Jazz is the only thing I like and that is declining in new music.

This is why the old MTV will never come back. With YouTube you can watch any video old or new on demand.
But you can say the same for Beats 1 radio.
You have all the music waiting for you, all on demand!

But that's the point. I don't want to spend hours on selecting and curating youtube videos, I can have some "Beats 1 TV" in the background while I clean up or just do other stuff in the house so I can just look a little bit from time to time.

Exactly my point. I think people were imagining a brighter future when internet streaming services became mainstream and traditional TV were dead. But honestly I do miss a good quality channel that curates great content and quality programming.
