The Chromecast already does most of what the Apple TV does for a 1/3 of the price.

Obviously you don't know the differences between the devices. Feel free to stop posting ignorant factless statements in this thread.

If you want to post facts, you are welcome to contribute to this thread.

Edit... quoted guy has been trolling the forums for awhile, rants rather than facts.

It is definitely NOT the iTV. There would've been at least some info about the iTV if it were to emerge at next Tues event. Its a Apple TV update. possibly bringing it inline with iOS 7 and its new features. Maybe a redesign? Who knows.

My hunch is that it an update to the Apple TV. No surprises here people, carry-on...

I think new apple tvs will have an App Store. Current models wouldn't be powerful enough to handle games :):):)

It won't be called iTV. Apple tried that already years ago when they introduced the original Apple TV. Using that name was blocked - mainly because over here in the UK we already have a well established television network called ITV...

RTP.

Knowing Apple as a penny-pinching company, it's likely that there is just some minor update to the current AppleTV. An A7 processor in an AppleTV? No way that's going to happen. The current AppleTV is using an older dual-core processor with one core disabled. If that isn't stupid, then I don't know what is. Apple continues to pinch pennies while sitting on a mountain of cash and just lets rivals make fools out of them. That's why Wall Street barely gives any decent value to the stock. The big money investors don't understand why Apple doesn't make use of the cash it has to blow competitors out of the water.

Yes! My fingers are crossed! I just bought my first 1080p TV a month ago (I haven't owned a TV for 15 years) and I was holding out on buying an Apple TV until the fall product announcements were made. Just a weak rumor at this moment in time, but we'll see soon! And don't worry folks...if an update is not announced, I'll simply buy the current version and start enjoying it. It is just $100 you know...

Disabling cores isn't stupid. In fact it's a fairly common practice when you want to increase processor yields. However they only did that for the early AppleTV 3s. The current ones use an A5 that has been specifically designed with only one core.

So I still have the old Apple TV with a 160GB storage. The fact is I want to be able to run it without having another computer on to act as a Media Server to it.

If you want to provide an upgrade give us an SSD drive or at least let allow us to connect to an external drive.

CONTENT IS KING

I think this just might be the Nintendo wii meets Apple TV! App Store, AC wifi, motion control, speech commands. If it's anything like that, Sony and Microsoft look out!

Read my mind exactly

Now we just need to know whether or not Apple recieved shipment for "rectangular slabs with high resolution panels" and we will then know that the rMBP update is on the way as well. :D

I think that a good strategy would be the AppleTv combined with an Airport Express for $99.
That's a great idea and consistent with rumored AirPort Express supply constraints. It'd also be a nice way to start to eliminate Apple's Broadcom/MIPS wireless device codebase and standardize on iOS which in turn is a Mac OS X variant, so it'd make a fair amount of development sense, too. It'd also be configurable without requiring the AirPort Utility -- just hook it to a TV and use the remote -- and that simplicity is consistent with Apple's philosophy. And it'd be a gentle nudge to encourage people to hook up their Apple TV via Ethernet if possible. Also cuts down on SKUs and helps reduce Apple TV problems associated with dodgy wireless routers. And it's a nice competitive differentiator.

Maybe they'd call it the "Apple TV Express"? Basically it'd be an AirPort Express with upgraded wireless (802.11ac), an added HDMI port, and Apple TV internals (probably upgraded to single core A6). The existing USB port could also be used to access audio, video, and picture files from a USB memory key or USB hard disk.

I like it.

Hope the next Apple TV has something more for those of us outside the US, I've been holding off on getting one because of the rumors.

This seems like a great idea

But I don't know if I would upgrade just for that

I already have an Apple TV & AirPort Extreme 2012

My Apple TV is wired

What benefits do I get by replacing the ATV with this new one

None of my iOS of mac devices have the fast AC

iWatch = Apple TV

Anyone think that this device might actually be called the "iWatch". like in watching TV not checking the time. We may actually have an iWatch come out on the 10th and we may not be too sure on what this actually is.

Nope

The UK Apple store is saying 3-5 business days dispatch for the aTV...

That'd be funny. Look, we are gonna deliver it right before the keynote and the new Apple TV, for the client to feel more stupid.

If new.....

maybe better internals?.....New version of the special iOS can be a must. Bluetooth, Thunderbolt, new A something chip.?.....too many possiblities....Lets wait and see....

The problem with combined them is that not everyone keeps their router next to their TV. In fact I think it's much more common to keep it near a computer.

You missed the point. It's usually 24hrs dispatch. 3-5 days often means that supplies are low and suggests Apple are getting rid of the last stock of the existing model.

Safari anyone? I dont see why not, if they are making an app store, people will make web browsing apps. Not only that, these smart TV are getting stronger and stronger, before you know it apple TVs will be obsolete. Safari cant be a big software file.

Also, with iTunes Radio coming out, it just goes to show that there might be more native apps on the way for the apple TV, so they might need a new generation for that.

90000 isn't an unreasonable initial shipment number considering Apple probably sells a good chunk of these online.

This shipment could just be for local Apple store display and some sales.
