You missed the point. It's usually 24hrs dispatch. 3-5 days often means that supplies are low and suggests Apple are getting rid of the last stock of the existing model.

I know. I was making a joke, but not too good apparently.

That's a great idea and consistent with rumored AirPort Express supply constraints. It'd also be a nice way to start to eliminate Apple's Broadcom/MIPS wireless device codebase and standardize on iOS which in turn is a Mac OS X variant, so it'd make a fair amount of development sense, too. It'd also be configurable without requiring the AirPort Utility -- just hook it to a TV and use the remote -- and that simplicity is consistent with Apple's philosophy. And it'd be a gentle nudge to encourage people to hook up their Apple TV via Ethernet if possible. Also cuts down on SKUs and helps reduce Apple TV problems associated with dodgy wireless routers. And it's a nice competitive differentiator.

Maybe they'd call it the "Apple TV Express"? Basically it'd be an AirPort Express with upgraded wireless (802.11ac), an added HDMI port, and Apple TV internals (probably upgraded to single core A6). The existing USB port could also be used to access audio, video, and picture files from a USB memory key or USB hard disk.

I like it.

The other thing that would make this nice is you could now do Airplay without needing a network connection since the express can create an Ad Hoc network. So for people traveling they don't need to carry both an express and an Apple TV to setup for their presentations. But if Apple is going the integration route, might as well throw in a big HDD into that unit and then you can have TM backups too. Removes a lot of the clutter, but that would make Time Capsule unappealing.

The Chromecast already does most of what the Apple TV does for a 1/3 of the price.

Correct me if im wrong (ive never seen a chromecast here in eu) but doesnt it only stream what is on chrome from your mac unlike apple tv which mirrors the whole screen? Apple tv is brilliant for vlc player for me.

I think this just might be the Nintendo wii meets Apple TV! App Store, AC wifi, motion control, speech commands. If it's anything like that, Sony and Microsoft look out!

Sony and microsoft dont need to worry. Those that want to buy a ps4 or new xbox wont all of a sudden just take the apple tv instead. Completely different gaming market that can co exist in the same living room

Anyone think that this device might actually be called the "iWatch". like in watching TV not checking the time. We may actually have an iWatch come out on the 10th and we may not be too sure on what this actually is.

With Jony it's certainly a possibility, he wouldn't call the new device for your wrist an iwatch, would he? but something new or strange like iBand, iPulse, or iConnect. So yeah the TV or set top box could be called iWatch, But with the AppleTV name firmly in place it seems unlikely.

Cut a deal with discovery, nat geographic etc and the premierleague to put games on and from other football leagues. If the can manage that (which yes would be expensive and difficult) then ill get rid of my sat tv which i wouldnt mind paying a decent apple subscription for just so i dont have to deal with the pricks again

Nope.

LOL... Surely just the same old ATV, don't they always get shipments like this prior to a launch since they sell them when new users buy an iphone?

Or what about iPhone shipments disguised as set top box with communications..LOL

I would like it to be true, but it just can't be.

Apple watch disguised as tv box maybe???

----------

maybe better internals?.....New version of the special iOS can be a must. Bluetooth, Thunderbolt, new A something chip.?.....too many possiblities....Lets wait and see....

:):apple:

Already has bluetooth

Double down on this one for sure, all we know is that its a box:confused:

now please apply that to next year's product - already late this year :(

Nowadays almost every mayor TV manufacturer gives you the ability to download Apps to their smart tv's, so this is really overdue for the Apple TV.

I'm actually quite interested in getting an apple TV when I move into my new place in december, I should have the bandwidth for it then.

So bring it Apple, and a put a surprise or two in it.

Love my AppleTV. Can't live without Air Video. And now that finally Air Video HD got released, it's easily worth the money I've spent on it. I would say that the Apple TV has an incredible value and that will get even better in the future. It's also one of the devices that "silently" sneak into every household to build a broad base which Apple could use later for their iPanel or whatever they are gonna call it.

Currently the AppleTV is a bit limited, though. Not sure if that is a result of the small buffer or something they are forcing by software. For example, the iPad/iPhone has a lot more bitrate capability when you compare it to the current AppleTV.

A new AppleTV should have:
- new encoder/decoder unit
- 802.11ac
- more memory to allow for buffering higher bitrates, especially since AC now opens the door for that
- iOS 7

It's likely they will also open it up a bit to make room for more developer work and an AppStore for Apps that already run on the iPad/iPhone. So that we're basically remote controlling it with an iPad/iPhone at some point, which (if I remember correctly) was also rumored for the iPanel/iTV package).

I'm not really sure when they are deciding that H.265 is ready. It would make sense to already prepare an AppleTV for that capability-wise. Since they would need a completely new encoding chain for that, it's probably coming no sooner than 2014. Just speculation, anyway.

Why is it still called a "Set Top Box"? Now that we all use flat panels there is no room for anything to sit on top of the display. Just asking.

Please just give us a native PLEX app on the Apple TV. I'm not asking for cable on demand channels or friggin' MLB or WSJ. I'm not convinced the Roku is for me, which is why I've held on to a jailbroken ATV2 for so long. Please just make a small wish come true like the Disney fairy tales I used to watch as a kid. I know I can wake up to be a princess someday!

Eh. Couldn't really care less about the Apple TV. iTV, that's another story. Doesn't the Chromecast, that's 65% cheaper put the Apple TV to shame anyways, price-performance wise?

No. It has a lot less functionality and is only suitable for hackers. It's the kind of product that you buy, try it out, then forget about it.

What's long overdue is a standard for attaching "set top" boxes to the back of a TV, with power coming from the TV and a very short HDMI connection to the TV.

Apple got trademarks for "iWatch" in many countries. Haven't heard about any other names, and surely someone would have reported an "iConnect" trademark, for example.

Knowing Apple as a penny-pinching company, it's likely that there is just some minor update to the current AppleTV. An A7 processor in an AppleTV? No way that's going to happen. The current AppleTV is using an older dual-core processor with one core disabled. If that isn't stupid, then I don't know what is. Apple continues to pinch pennies while sitting on a mountain of cash and just lets rivals make fools out of them. That's why Wall Street barely gives any decent value to the stock. The big money investors don't understand why Apple doesn't make use of the cash it has to blow competitors out of the water.

That is pretty much 100% ********. All investors love them. They have less revenue than even Samsung, but still Apple's stock value makes them the worlds most valuable company. Your weird statements have like no root in reality. Apple has come where they are now by not spending money unwisely and not releasing a product before they think it's 100% ready.

Apple watch disguised as tv box maybe???

Interesting idea only because of the weight, 90 thousand apple tv's seems small if it's a new version, but if it was a watch, it would be a million or more at that weight. chances of it being a watch are like 1% but that would be HUGE surprise wouldn't it?

iPod, iPhone, iPad

Now what do these names have in common?

oo

A7 chip (unlikely but a nice thought), more memory, AC wifi, 4k, Thunderbolt/displayport to plug into new 4k apple displays and boom apple tv

they have to do something better the ac.

a lot of us use ethernet connection so we wouldn't need ac.

But isn't the big draw of 802.11ac that it reduces latency between compatible devices, not that it makes the wireless connection much faster. AC is great for iOS-AppleTV gaming.

Yeah, but did we hear about the iPad trademark prior to announcement? we heard iSlate, which apple got a trademark to prior to the iPad release, so it's not out of the possibility that iWatch may never be used.

The new tradmark whatever it is, could be held in a dummy corporation which apple has done before.

iWatch may never be used, or might be a service like iTunes, but I'm not convinced Apple is going to call the next wrist device a watch.

Why is it stupid? I don't get your reasoning at all. It's extremely intelligent and good for their margins, because they are reusing existing tech. They can now use defective SoC dies, they don't need another chip variant like on the iPad (X). No additional prototyping, no additional wafer runs, no additional inventory, no additional worries. The customer's benefit? You also save on power, which is also a good thing. The A7 could probably save even more power, but that's like breaking a fly on the wheel.

If there's one thing Apple does majestically, is to earn real money with insane margins on their products and not just the pure volume of sales.

For the current AppleTV, the A5 is also capable enough. Why build something into a device when you don't need it?

We did hear rumours about trademark applications for the iPad name but only a week before the iPad was announced.
