I would totally buy MyWi (once the bugs are worked out) if it were offered through the Cydia Store without the need to install Rock (even for licensing). I absolutely refuse to install Rock on my phone.

Cut your nose off to spite your face. Makes sense to me.

I never thought of Rock as a problem, but the more I read here it seems to get some negetive reviews. I installed it solely for MyWi and have not had any issues with it, to add it had some other nice apps to offer. Why is it hated on so much? Is it just because it's something else to cludder up your icons on your phone or does it drain battery, cause the phone to crash or run slow? Just wondering.

There's nothing wrong with the Rock app. I've had more problems with Cydia and apps like SBSettings than I ever had with Rock. In fact, I've never had a problem with the Rock app and I ran it for over 2 years and once jb is available for the iPhone4, I'll run it again. Some people get a burr stuck somewhere and get irrational about it.

I've been a member of this forum for a while, and for the life of me I can understand the hate for RYP. I have IntelliScreen, Tlert, MyWi 4.0, and IntelliDial. This apps work flawlessly. Now that MyWi is consuming less battery that makes it even better. I refuse to go to 4.0 because IntelliScreen and Tlert is not compatible yet and Rock really does run smooth for me as well.

I don't think you understand how that saying is used.

The problems you have had with SBSettings were very likely caused by Rock Extensions.

RockYourPhone installs a buggy forked version of MobileSubstrate (called Rock Extensions) which has many known conflicts. The Rock app itself does no harm, it is the Extensions that do. More importantly, there is absolutely no way to completely uninstall Rock Extensions. I twice had to restore my phone to fix conflicts caused by Rock.

Saurik himself has indicated that the majority of the support requests he receives turn out to have been caused by Rock Extensions. These are not imagined problems, they are real and they are confirmed by experience.

More importantly, Rock and the Rock Extensions are completely unnecessary for MyWi to work. They are only dependencies because Rock insists on them being dependencies of any app in their store.

Yes, it's such a complicated saying. You refuse the benefits of MyWi because you're irrational about the Rock app. Irrational and condescending, beautiful together.

Very likely, huh?

Imagine that, Saurik bad mouths a competitor. Gosh, amazing. Sorry, it's Saint Saurik, whose motives are pure.

Nasty capitalism.

This is SOP for Rock haters, blame every unexplained problem on Rock, drop Saurik's name as if it's some kind of commandment that came down from Mt Sinai and then bemoan Rock for making money from their apps.

Just upgraded to 4 and very disappointed. Everytime the iPhone goes to sleep, locks, MiWi loses connection. Fix for this?

Really goes against the "better power consumption" promise if I have to keep the screen on / unlocked when in use. You can watch the battery drain in this mode. MiWi 3 allowed me to lock the phone and keep the connection up.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Download Insomnia from cydia. This will keep your wifi active even when the iPhones screen is off. I used this combo on my 3G and it worked like a charm. Can't wait til my iPhone 4 gets a jb ready!

Say what you will, but the Rock Extensions are an issue and this has been proven over and over. Rock itself is a very nice UI, but I will never install it again due to the dependencies it loads. MyWi would be my sole reason for installing. I'll wait for a No Rock version.

Well said. I have never had any problems with Rock. People can complain about it all they want but unless I personally see conflicts caused by Rock, I see no reason why I shouldn't use it. All that means is that I'll be enjoying MiWi and they wont. :D

I didn't come in here to start an argument, merely to express my hope that that the makers of MyWi will create a version that is not licensed through RockYourPhone because I have personal experience with RockYourPhone causing irrecoverable conflicts that required me to restore my phone. If you like Rock and have no issues with it, I'm glad; but that does not change the fact that it caused issues on my phone or make it irrational of me to wish to avoid it.

Why is it that Rock is one of, if not the only, application that once it has a bug that affect some users, it is permanently cursed, never able to issue a new version that redeems itself, forever doomed to have its long ago 'victims' swoop in on any thread where it's mentioned to badmouth it with no mention of the version which caused the problem, how long ago it was, etc., instead they they post a simple blanket condemnation.

Rock. Cydia. Who gives a ****, it's your phone, just use whichever you want to use.

What's more important is when/if MyWi 4.0 is going to the enable native tethering option in any future updates. Most of these new features are pointless. Bluetooth tethering is so much easier, speed is good and I've never had a connection dropout on me once, why add all this other bs and complicate what could be a simple process?

Someone make an app to solely enable native tethering and I'll gladly pay $19.99.

I think someone will see the price increase as creating an opportunity for a lower-priced solution. I would be surprised if we don't see a cheaper (perhaps less feature-rich) alternative in the near future.

Not every laptop or other device has bluetooth connectivity.
Also iPads cant use USB or bluetooth to get internet acess. The easier and only solution in most cases is wifi tethering.

That's fair enough but I still cannot see the point in removing the native tethering unlock feature all together. I suppose it's only natural for them to force you to use their own software to do it...but it's a pain in the ass.

Guess I'll just have for someone else to release an app which sole purpose is to unlock the native tethering. Anyone? ;)

I hope there will be a package that enables the native tethering. There was a bunch of them for 3.0+ and they were free.
I think alot of people were install the Trial mywi and then removing it right after cause it enabled the native tethering. So they want us to pay instead of doing that trick from now on:)

I have yet to install the new version of MyWi on
my 3GS with iOS4 simply because I am waiting for
an iPhone 4 (white) and don't want to pay twice for
the program.

I can tell you I have been in touch with the company,
directed them to a few threads like these, and they
claim they worked out all the bugs that everyone has
been complaining about in their latest update.

Interesting.
They released an update already fixing all the bugs or they will release one.
Did they say anything about selling it at the cydia store finally?

Here is the reply I received from them after
pointing out the bugs mentioned in these threads:

Yes we are aware and I think you will find that version 4.1.3 fixes most if not all of these.

cant you just get the no rock version of mywi ??? or is it not possible anymore with the 4.0 version?
