MyWi - Rock My Phone

If you have done a jailbreak on your phone, you're all set.

1. From Cydia search for RockApp
2. Download it to your phone.
3. Go to ROck Your Phone website and create an account
4. Run the Rock App from your phone
5. Enter your account info
6. Download trial of mywi
7. Click on the mywi icon GTG
7a. IF the icon for mywi is not there restart

NOTE: The DESKTOP SOFTWARE for Rock Your Phone doesn't work for 3GS - it's a soft unlock deal - if you've jailbroken your phone just follow the steps above. You don't need the DESKTOP SOFTWARE AT ALL.

The apps from Rock Your PHone all appear to work on the 3GS you just need to download them from the ROck app you downloaded from Cydia.

In short, MyWi will run on your iPHone 3GS. It will create a wireless hotspot that other devices can use to connect to the internet.

edit: but once the app is installed I cant see it.
 
Just as a note, this type of program has been available for other cell phone OS for a long time. I used WIFI Router for a long time on my Sprint Mogul running WM. Very convenient to be able to create wifi hotspot.

As as long as you don't download or upload massive amounts shouldn't even be blip on your account. I've read somewhere that the AT&T monthly limit is 5 GB or so on the "unlimited plan" but I'm too lazy to confirm right now.
 
I hear that if you install RockYouPhone from Cydia, it works with the iPhone 3G. The desktop app doesn't.

I've been testing it for a little bit now. It has been working great for me. Check out a little review I did here Rotilda.com
 
After testing it a little, it does seem to drop connection after a few minutes. Once the bugs are worked out this will be great.

I dont see how this can possibly work with the itouch, it takes your network connection and broadcasts it as an SSID for other devices to connect
the itouch has no network connection so it has no porpose
 
The latest version seems to fix the 1 minute log off. I am posting this from my laptop using MyWi now. Definately going to buy this one.....
 
man i had joiku spot on my n95 before and mywi is just want i need

however I'm against app installing extra crap on the phone (rockapp, rockextension) and I'm also against having to install another piece of software on my computer too.

Any other developer wants to do same app with same function but non of the crap (maybe thru cydia store?) I will buy it right away provided it works and its a resonable price.

I understand the whole philosophy ryi.com has behind making their customer install all these crap so they can protect their app from cracker.

but imo they lost a lot customer this way than just putting out a staight app without all these crap tie to it and having possible cracked version.


P.S MyWi has already been cracked despite all the extra "security" Still not going to install it cuz the cracked doesn't remove all the crap extension and rockapp.


Rockyouiphone.com is quite a fail in my eye. Hopefully they will get with the program and keep it simple soon.

SO i gave it a spin the other day on trial. The app works but with it install i can't use my regular wifi.

However I will give it this, when it worked it works great. and i amaze my non data plan buddies when i share my 3g connection and 3 ppl were about to huddle around me and go online.

But I can't have it blocking my regular wifi function. only way to get it back is to uninstall it and i did, along with all the rockapp crap.

does rockapp does anything other than being a spyware? i try it open it before i uninstall mywi and it after connecting online it proceed to try to install another app on the phone......


this remind me of old dial up day and "free" dialers...

Yes. People should use software that provides benefit and not refuse to use it because of some paranoid, half-brained issue with how it's distributed.

If you have regular wifi, why would you use MyWi?

When MyWi is running, it stops WiFi on the phone. So what. You can't have WiFi working on the iPhone plus 3G/Edge.

How do you know Cydia or Icy isn't spyware? Or the App Store? Grow up.

There are 3 pieces of software needed to run MyWi;

MyWi
RockApp
Rock Extensions

I'm running the latest version of MyWi without WEP as well as with 10 and 26 character WEP. Yes, there were problems with the initial release, but the developer has been both here and modmyi, and maybe other sites, assisting people.

I really don't care about being corrected on what the app is. Another poster, psuskeels, was much more helpful than you were in correcting me, in fact. It's your smug and condescending attitude about something so trivial as an application on a phone that calls your maturity into question.
 
i think rockmyiphone as a company should and need to be able to take criticism. look at apple as much as its loved it also one of those company ppl love to hate.


I'm just saying that having extra bloated useless program install along with neccesary software does put off some ppl.

Now the company can just ignore that and be happy with their current customer base or they can do something abt it and try gain more market share.



Also the problem i was experiencing with my wifi persist even when i turn the mywi off
