All FYI: Rock Your Phone isn't spyware :). The idea behind it is to be able to manage all of your independant iPhone software with one rockid. This helps greatly when you get a new/replace your iPhone - you don't need to contact each independant software vendor to transfer your license. We also have an enhanced version of mobilesubstrate (Rock Extensions), which has additional error handling to keep your phone safe.

We are a commercial entity with customer support. We sell a strong line of top selling apps. If this is what you are looking for - then give Rock Your Phone a try. If you are looking for cracked apps, etc. - then Rock Your Phone isn't a good fit for you.

Thanks for your time!

I love my Rock apps- Tlert and Intelliscreen. And when I reported a bug to them last week, they responded the next day saying they had been able to duplicate the bug and would send it on to their developer. Within a few days, an update was out. Pretty good CS :)

does rock extension have a safe mode?

does it play nicely with mobile substrate? I understand the extra debugging tool but those likely have minimal use by lots of end users why not just got with mobile substrate that almost all other jb apps use?

I will stop responding to newbies who are too lazy to search and let it up to people like you to be their enablers. Cya.

I just want to chime in to provide a neutral 3rd party opinion here. I read through this whole thread to find out more about this app and it sounds very interesting. Unfortunately, it is all cluttered up by your unnecessary criticism and made the reading a lot less desirable. MikePA, if you have this app working and are satisfied then leave the thread unless you're here to help others with their problems getting the app working. Not one person in this thread wants you here because all your doing is criticizing people with questions and/or can't get the app working whether or not it is their fault from not reading the whole thing or not. If I were the developer of this app, I would be pretty pissed that you're here. Please go flame somewhere else. See a psychiatrist or find a human shoulder to cry on if you're having a ****** day, don't take it out on your computer. Is there any way a mod can come in and delete all of MikePA's posts?

I have replaced PDAnet with MyWi because they seem to conflict if used together.

In my case I wanted to upgrade my 3G to the 3GS but was not motivated till I heard about MyWi. Yes, PDAnet worked fine but I wasn't happy with the general speed of my iPhone 3G. Upgrade for me was $400, but since I figured I could sell my old iPhone for $200 I would break even as far as buying a new 3GS with an early contract penalty. MyWi seemed like an incredible innovation so I took the gamble, downloaded the app onto my Macbook Pro desktop while my iphone 3G PDAnet was still active (I do not have any other internet access source at my home) and left for the Apple store, MBP in hand. While in the store I mulled around, still sitting on the fence, doing some research on one of their new Macbook Pros on display to decide which was better for me, the Incase or the Mophie Juice Pack air, both able to double battery time on my new 3GS, if I decided to go for it.

Finally I bought the 3GS, sat down with it in the store, connecting it with my own MBP laptop. Mind you, I did not jailbreak this brand new iPhone; I just installed the Rock your phone software on it from the desktop app. Installation was so easy a caveman could do it. Before I knew it I was looking at two new icons on my 3GS; a ROCK app and a MyWi app., all installed in the store using Apple's own hotspot! I then purchased the mophie Juice pack over the incase, not that I think one is better than the other; they both seemed to have good reviews.

I later noticed in wifi mode MyWi would drain the battery, as expected. But WAIT. When I finally got around to using the mophie there was no more battery drain! The 3GS actually charged fully while using MyWi in wifi mode, and I do not mean only by the mophie, i mean by it being plugged into the wall or laptop.
I cannot guarantee this will work for you; it may be just a wierd anomally in my case, but it has never failed to charge while in wifi mode. Apparently the mophie did something, not sure what; now it recharges in wifi mode completely, without being in the mophie case. Was it really the mophie case or the fact that I did not jailbreak my 3GS that caused it to recharge in wireless mode. I am not perfectly sure, but if anyone decides to use this software without jailbreaking try to recharge in wireless mode before buying a $79 mophie, just to be make sure.

Wifi mode can be iffy and I find it seems to depend on how strong your 3G signal is. Also I notice my old Powerbook 17" will not share the wifi signal as long as I have a WEP key enabled. Otherwise my friends seem to be able to use the hotspot MyWi creates with no problem, with or without a WEP key. USB tethering is FAST, faster than PDAnet, though it may be helped by the fact I am on a 3gs now and not an iPhone 3g.

I am posting this pic using MyWi in wireless mode, from my MBP in OSX Leopard, since for some reason I cannot upload a pic to Photobucket in Bootcamp Windows XP.
3GSMyWi.jpg

Otherwise USB or Wifi tethering is excellent in Windows XP; I can surf anywhere since MyWi does not use Proxy.

One other bug on my system; sometimes MyWi will remain on until you turn your phone completely off and on again by holding down the on-off button.

Despite these few bugs MyWi is great for me and well worth the one time fee of $10. I can't guarantee it will work as well for you, but this is in my opinion about an unbiased review as I can honestly make. I say it is just awesome that I can create my own hot spot with just a touch of a button, and it is an incredible app that replaces routers costing 20 times as much.

Odd bug

I'm using it, and found an odd bug when I do - if I only tether with USB; it works fine but does not show UL/DL stats until the iPhone goes into sleep mode. As soon as I press the center button it shows the stats just fine on the lock screen but not in the app or home screen. Doesn't affect the connection but it'd be nice to see the stats just the same.

Nice app, I'll be buying it.

Using MyWi Right Now

I'm tethered to my iPhone via MyWi. My gf is going to love that she will now be able to have ipod Touch internet access when we go out to dinner. She hates her ipod when wifi is not available!

Download speeds are more than adequate, perhaps even a little faster than my experience with PDANet. Which, btw, is still installed and I don't see a conflict so far. 2.5mbps download as tested via speedtest.net.

I was also hesitant to install RockApps via Cydia as it seemed like overkill, but having used them to get Tlert and now MyWi (as a trial) I can see they are a solid app provider and appear very responsive. I'm pretty sure I'll by this app before the trial is over.

Enjoy!

Doesn't paying for a jailbreak app defeat the basic purpose of jailbreaking?
I don't believe in paying for ANY apps, only service.

FREE the APPS! :p

Why'd you buy an iPhone if you could have just stolen one and got it for free?

The purpose of jailbreaking for me isn't to get pirated apps. I don't have anything pirated on my phone. I did it so I can make some modifications to MY phone, which on every other phone you can do. I can justify paying for jailbroken apps because I pay for regular apps from the app store, so what's the difference?

I don't think he mean jailbreak = pirated free apps.
I think he mean jailbreak = open source / free apps

Ok, but just like in the AppStore, the very complex apps take a lot of development time. Nobody likes working for free. I'd rather drop $2 on a solid app then have ads all over it or have it more buggy/less features.

If this were a release on cydia it would be an instant purchase from me.

Instead they bundle it with... absolutely nothing else I want.

Release it on cydia or someone crack it and put it on there for free.

Don't bother.

The performance of this app is spotty at best. It will work fine for one session and stop working the next. Sometimes it will work with wep key enabled, other times it refuses to assign a proper 192.xxx ip address unless I turn wep key mode off (despite the same key being used and remembered on the 2 MacBooks used to connect to mywi). This app also messes with your regular wifi and 3g connection. Basically had to reboot a billion times and restore just to get everything working normally on my phone again. Screw rock your phone apps.

Now the Rock app includes Cydia and loads of their apps. I never jailbroke my 3gs and this is super cool; Cydia without having to jailbreak!

third-party installer? Did Cydia come with your iphone? LOL

The key phrase is "just to install one app." Cydia has dozens of packages I use every day. Rock my iPhone has one useful app and a bunch of stuff I have absolutely no interest in. And I can also delete Cydia if I wish to without losing my installed packages; I cannot delete Rock my iPhone.

is there a setting or something on the rock your phone app to see the app, on the front page i see mywi but it wont let me select it to download and i go to whats new and nothing is there. the only thing its showing is stuff thats already on my phone

I think installing the Rock app is a jailbreak in itself. New users need not jailbreak their phones to get MyWi and these days the Rock app has Cydia included. Still love this app and recommend it. On my 3gs the phone charges in WiFi mode using MyWi unless there is heavy use from two laptops connected. Otherwise no real problems.

I'm not a fan of RockApp or the whole idea of modifying mobilesubstrate so any user who wants to use an app has to have extra bloat of TWO mobilesubstrate like things running.

It's stupid. The iPhone has limited resources and they need to be utilized optimally to make good use of the system. Saurik has already done a lot of work to help people with that by providing a unified system (mobilesubstrate) for interfacing with the springboard. This prevents redundant processes.

I REALLY wanted to download MiWi, but I'm not going to bloat my 3G with the extra crap. If it was just released using the Cydia Store (Has systems in place for people who get new phones) and using MobileSubstrate I'd gladly pay for it.
