It wasn't watchOS 2.2.1 that fixed the issue, it's iOS 9.3.2 that did. I updated to iOS 9.3.2 while I was at work and the native apps started working on my watch and I still had the previous firmware installed on my Apple Watch ( I don't have the Apple Watch charger at work so I couldn't upgrade the firmware of the watch at work)

This indicates that the culprit was iOS after all and not WatchOS. Such a shame it took them months to fix this bug but atleast its fixed now.

You are correct sir. It wasn't until after I updated to iOS 9.3.2 that 3rd party native apps finally started working, although they don't all work very well cough <facebook messenger> cough.

Confirmed* my sons watch (replacement) is officially working. As Apple stood ideally by, replacing a watch and claiming they knew nothing of how or why.

Perhaps they should share a little more internally over there at HQ. Unreal.

At least his apps work now, 6 months after owning the damn thing.

Yes it's a shame how they claimed they had no knowledge of this bug even existing.

Well better late than never! I'm happy it's working for everyone now. Can't wait to see how many of my apps disappear next month when the devs inevitably fail to make their apps native before the deadline :p

They won't disappear, devs just can't submit new apps (or updates, I believe) with only a watchOS 1 app in them.

True, but that means the dev will either a) never update their app b) create native watch app c)drop support for their existing watch app

I don't expect anyone to do a) but it'll be interesting to see the split between b) and c). Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the apps that I'm MOST wanting to see go native just decide to drop the watch app all together... (Nike+ Running and Overcast)

When is the native app deadline?

Have anyone encountered this on watchOS 3?
In my case, restoring the iPhone helped for 2 weeks, now some apps don't launch again.
iPhone 7 plus on 10.2, watch series 1 on 3.1.1, updated to 3.1.3 beta 2 without any luck.
