iPad Native M1 apps

Has anyone seen any M1 native iPad apps? Wonder if the App Store will eventually have a separate section? I am more thinking that these apps wouldn’t be backwards or intel compatible.. maybe that‘s just my misunderstanding

M1 native apps obviously won’t be intel compatible. During the transition period, you can expect most big developers to release x86 version of their apps. But after the transition period, id reckon intel based macs will lose app support way faster than PowerPC transition era.

If that’s the case, “native M1 app” is kind of a flop, as iOS app is pretty much “architecture” agnostic (there’s only one for recent devices). But if news apps are developed after September, then I think they will become native M1 app. But optimised M1 app is another matter.

This is in the iPad section so I’m assuming the OP means native iPad M1 apps? And to that end, of course there has never been intel apps and not will there be native M1 apps, not for a while anyway (and it’s only a step up from the A14) IMO.

Or am I misunderstanding?

Thanks guys, you got it StumpyBloke. I was forgetting that IOS was intel independent anyway… In my mind, I am kind of hoping for a M1 app branch that might really unleash some Power application potential 🙂

OP, the M1 already uses the same architecture as every other iPad and iPhone. I do not think Apple will try to segment the iPad market by releasing apps that only work on M1 iPads. That would confuse consumers. They have never done this in the past with iPad Pros and I don't expect them to begin now.

They're all ARM. M1 would just be able to run apps around 50% faster at best than A12X/Z.

Neural engine first came with the Apple A11 chipset though so if any apps require those, then 2017 iPad Pro and older won't be supported.

Apps will run on all versions of iPad so nothing specific to the chip that was from an iPad, beefed up and renamed for a MacBook and because of the success was and the likely next version for the iPad anyway.

Bit more complicated than that, but still largely marketing.

They are all M1 native. No such thing as a non-native iPad app (M1 or no)

On the iPad it’s less about it not working, but apps being aware of the new chips abilities.

Procreate for example can add extra layers cause it knows you have more RAM, or Genshin Impact can run at a higher resolution as it is now aware of the M1s more powerful GPU.

If you mean getting desktop apps like Adobe Photoshop (That has a native M1 app for Mac OS) then we obviously aren’t getting it since Apple would of said so at WWDC. I for one was expecting this especially since the M1 iPads have 8 and 16GB of Ram which just right now seems like a total waste.
