The conundrum continues. Is there a thread and discussion about this on the developer forum?

Also has anyone used Feedback Assistant to try and get an engineer to comment or reply?

I have been tempted to open a thread on the AppleSeed forum and see if any engineer replies. However since it is NA for us it is probably not a good idea?

Yep, exactly.

While I do somewhat agree with what other's have said about it being strange they didn't show it off during the keynote, I was thinking back about it and how they really did seem almost short on time with the whole thing. I'm guessing that they just didn't think it was big enough of a feature to showcase on the stage. Here's to hoping it continues to work for others and in the future betas. Really like the feature.

In fairness, there was a lot of items that they couldn't squeeze into the keynote.

I'm still happy that we know it's something they're at least working on. Very curious as to what might come of it with a future watch as well and the potential for actually GPS.

But you would think that they would at least mention it here.

They mention auto-pause which I am very excited about, but I haven't read one word about here or anywhere else. As anyone tried it? How does it work?

True. Maybe it's something they're testing and don't want to make an announcement about yet.

Lol the other day it auto-paused for me at an intersection! I was surprised but so happy to see that feature.

Did a long bike this morning, about 50km. No route/map, and elevation gain says 10m while I'm sure I did about 300m worth of climbing. Something wacky with elevation too.

So I was thinking that that yellow, green and red is our run pace. Red is stopped or slow and green is a faster pace. Just thinking outside the box.

Agreed. Whenever I had a map, even for cycling, those colours definitely corresponded to the range of pace/speed I was doing.

It would be just like how the Nike+ Run app shows pace on its map.

Any new updates on the route tracking? Are maps/routes showing for anyone else on Beta 2?

Did a long run yesterday with the phone as well, no route/map, weather or elevation show in the workout summary. (B2 on phone & watch).

Since I was registered as a developer anyway, I finally gave in and took the plunge and updated to Beta 2 iOS 10 and Beta 2 WatchOS 3. No problems with the update, and went for about a 1-mile walk this AM without the phone and disappointingly no map, weather or elevation data showed in the Workout app. Plan to go for a run sometime today, and will see what transpires. Really looking forward to trying out the auto-pause function since I run in an area with a lot of street crossings and busy traffic.

Brought my phone along with me during golf and the workout had the map and a perfect layout of the golf course and each hole I played. The workout outdoor walk recorded the two hour workout but the rings registered it as a 30 minute exercise and the calories was only 350. It would register the calorie burn so slowly considering I carry my clubs and it was 85. Normally this is closer to 700 calories. Heart rate was perfect.

Native route with the phone definitely worked and had a perfect map.

I received my route info and weather after my ride yesterday but while out it did not auto pause. I was hoping it would, my Garmin on my bars will. I really like what I'm seeing with this update.

Has anyone checked to see if the map coordinates are being stored somewhere in HealthKit? This is very intriguing to say the least. Would really love to know exactly how this works and hopefully it makes it into the production release.

This seems incredible.

I think auto-pause is only for the running workout type unfortunately.

As a followup, I did a few more walks with the phone, and both times I got a map of my walk in the workout app on the phone. I did another test without the phone, but no map on that. So the WiFi triangulation or whatever method it was using in Beta 1 to provide route tracking without the phone, may not be active any longer in Beta 2?

Did a quick brick this morning (bike + run). Noticed that elevation is now showing up as well (I saw it in the summary on the watch itself when saving a workout, but wasn't showing in the Activity app until I updated to beta 2).

The workout summary is really becoming nice with all this information and a route/map as well.

Here's one from the weekend, wasn't previously showing elevation but I guess it was recording it:

Does it record/show elevation when you go without the iPhone?

Did a bike ride this morning with the phone and route tracking worked perfectly. Still haven't had any route tracking on runs without the phone however. I hope that reappears in future releases of WatchOS 3.

Interesting. I did a bike 1 week ago with the phone + watch but didn't get a map. I actually have a triathlon this morning, I'm going to see how it does for mapping on the bike.

Okay gang - get the latest beta installed and go re-test everything :) :D

Lol I have it installed and will test early in the morning.

For what it's worth, on b2 I didn't get splits, elevation, route or anything from runs or bikes with the watch + phone.

No time to test things out yet but I will say that my maps, etc. from previous workouts are still there. And it looks like they changed the UI for splits just a tiny bit. There's now a blue arrow representing the fact that it's a drop-down.

Edit:
Reporting back. Just went out for a short two mile walk. Man, that heat though. Everything still seems to be functioning as usual. Same as before, I can load up the workout on my iPhone after saving it and wait a few seconds for the map to pop in. Map and weather are still there. Unfortunately the path that I walked is quite flat but I can only assume elevation will still work as it does still show for my previously tracked workouts.

Haven't tried on b3 yet, but weird how I lost maps/routes and even splits during b2!

It is very strange. Haven't been out bike riding since beta 2 (busy and horrible heat wave) so I've only been testing with walks but it's been pretty consistent for me. Hasn't failed to present one since beta 1 I think.

I will also note that I've always had my phone on me as well. I'm not currently much of a runner so I find it easy to take it with me on walks and always had it in either a pocket or backpack when cycling. Just some more info regarding tests. I think the main thing to look at and be happy about is that they don't seem to be going away! It'd suck if they just shuttered the features right before the GM but I highly doubt that. Just seem to be some great new things they didn't have time to tout at WWDC. I had been hoping for native route tracking since I had gotten my watch so this stuff is great.

I installed beta 3 and went for a quick run without the phone and didn't get a route. That's the same as what I saw in beta 2. I guess we may never get an answer about the mysterious gray dots and route tracking without the phone in beta 1.

I did however get the weather in the workout page, even without the phone. And auto pause is now working again in beta 3. Didn't work at all in beta 2.
