Does anyone know if this will give you an alternate route to change to or you can specify not to use the highway? I drive to work on a highway full of construction and more often than not, there seems to be a wreck that has shut the highway down. If this will give me alternate back roads to take, I'm all over it.

Additionally to what JFreak said, you can also block the road ahead of you while driving. When you're on a street and you notice that there's a construction or an accident or whatever, you can block this road and Navigon will calculate an alternative route.

By way of price comparison, at GBP79.99 for the full Europe maps, this is pretty competitive. A few years ago I had the Navigon package on my Windows Mobile PDA (remember those?) and it cost GBP115 to upgrade the maps from UK to full Europe, and then a year or so later a further GBP70 to do a regular map upgrade. And the current Navigon offering for the Windows platform is GBP 89.99.and GBP79.99 to upgrade their own devices with the latest maps which would appear to be the same as the iPhone ones. And Garmin (who also use Navteq maps) are currently charging GBP72.99 to upgrade the Europe maps for the Nuvi 255 which I also have.

So I think the price is fair and it's really a matter of personal preference as to the maps and the interface. I prefer Navteq maps as their coverage of central and eastern Europe was always better than Tele Atlas, and I have to say I rather like the Navigon interface and find it rather more elegant than the Nuvi. And of course having a proper touch screen on the iPhone is delightful compared to the clunky Garmin Nuvi.

But of course as in all such things, YMMV!

Does Navigon use street names?

I got a TomTom for Christmas and loved it. I just wanted it to use street names. I now have a IIGS and hope the TomTom app will incorporate street names.

Ive been using Navigon Lite in the UK for the past couple of weeks, and have to say the UI and general look of it is considerably worse than the Tomtom unit I had 3 years ago.

Having said that, it tracks very well, and I always get an accurate signal when in my car mounted dock on the dashboard. I notice that the free "Lite" version is no longer available in the app store - hmmm.....

Am looking forward to buying the Tomtom app, and will definetely forgoe the cradle thing.

Voice Commands

Does anyone who uses this GPS system, does it have voice commands on it?
