TADA! We have NBC! Wasn't that easy???

Agreed. If you have cable, odds are you will watch the Super Bowl on TV. At the very least, you are not a potential new customer. If you don't have cable, I really don't think the ability to watch TV on your iPad will make you want to pay for cable. It will just make you want to watch TV on your iPad without cable.

An unexpected consequence may be that NBC realizes how many cord cutters are out there begging for a non-cable solution.

----------

A better experiment: see how many people would be willing to pay 99 cents to watch this live coverage. Presumably many of the cord cutters out there might want to do this. Like they say on Facebook, THE ANSWER MAY SURPRISE YOU!

The only issue with your plan? Comcast owns NBC:eek:

Haha, correction, many others have DirecTV because of sports. Cable is so years ago. :)

Still others have DISH Network because they don't want any part of anything owned by Rupert Murdoch

I don't understand the absence of Apple TV option, and yeah, I know I can mirror the iPad or MacBook.

Airplay works on the NBC sports app so you will be able to push it to your Apple TV

So when I'm sitting in front of my TV instead of just tuning the TV to NBC I can access the game on the iPad and AirPlay it to the AppleTV. Wheeee!!!

Isn't the Super Bowl free to view in the US?

I'm from the UK so don't know, but I have always thought that the Super Bowl had to be free to view.

The NFL is so stuck in the past with their 'exclusive' deal with Verizon. Why don't they pay attention to what MLB has done and make it widespread to all devices for subscription fees?

MLB would be raking in even more money if the did away with the stupid local blackout policies.

News Corporation hasn't owned DirecTV since 2006.

The agreements/licensing that the NFL has with the networks prohibits AirPlay, Chromecast, or any form of mirroring on their apps. Regardless, it is silly that there isn't an Apple TV option.

Seahawks fan. :D:D

I could claim bandwagon status, but that would be unsporting. Unfortunately my team is in the NFC South. :( Fortunately for me, sports is only second to cars in my world. I will enjoy the defensive Hawks against the offensive Pats and hope the game is close throughout.

Overshare: Rank of importance in my life.
1. Cars
2. Sports
3. Beer
4. XBox
5. Family - as long as they don't interfere with 1-4;)

I wonder if I can get away without one of these /jk? Prolly not. :D:p

Maybe I'm ignorant but why? NBC is already 'free' - no cable subscription required regardless.
Unless this is just an "in addition to" for those who won't be near a TV b/c they're traveling, etc...

That's why people use the less-featured Dish Network instead of DirecTV? Come on. Some of you guys and your politics. I'm pretty sure that's a minority who even cares. I buy what satisfies my TV viewing needs. I don't give a rats behind who owns it.

I have to wonder if this will be like the ESPN Mega Stream of the college football championship. Going through the ESPN app you had many different ways to watch the football game. I actually enjoyed watching the different feeds.
So I wonder if NBC will have different ways to watch the Super Bowl or it will just be the straight game feed that you would see if you watched it on the NBC channel.

As far as just using "rabbit ears" to watch the game, I know a few that watch antenna tv and the signal strength is pretty poor and they have keep playing with the antenna or hold it or turn it this way or that or the picture constantly breaks up and is unwatchable

Whatever. The NFL is so overproduced and obnoxious nowadays.

And, even worse, the two teams playing are like watching ISIS versus Al Quaeda fighting against each other in a war. Who the hell do you root for? LOL.

I got better things to do.

I don't see what the big deal is: this is just a broadcast TV show.
Of course it should "be available" on iPad, just like any other broadcast TV show is.

However, Bill Bellicheat, Shady Tom Brady & thier New England Deflatriots
shall not now, nor ever, pollute my iPad Mini 3 with thier fetid presence.
GO SEAHAWKS.

Verizon Wireless and the NFL plan to introduce a Super Bowl Stadium app that will offer "exclusive in-stadium video content" that includes commercials and replays shown from four camera angles.
Finally. I've been waiting a long time for an app that shows me commercials!

OMG, you had me rolling over here. That was so comical! :D. I wouldn't at all be surprised if what NE is being accused of is true. The thing is, I hate the SeaChickens so I am hoping for NE to win, on that reason only, cuz I'm not a fan of either team.

That was so comical!

I know, right?

First one's free. Next year, it'll be a $50 pay-per-view.

No one, allow me to repeat that: NO ONE, will pay $50 for something that's been free for half a century.
I don't care how much "exclusive content" they offer with it.
Who cares about that junk, anyway? People just wanna see the game.

The network makes plenty of dough from the advertisers, that's why the Super Bowl costs so much to have.
Next you'll be saying they're gonna charge seperately for the halftime show & the commercials, too.
