How ironic that all of those phones are equipped with GPS yet can't be found
Ironic? The phones are powered off hence no tracking ability. Also GPS works best when there is a clear view of the sky, being packed in a box packed in another box packed in a box shrink wrapped on a pallet stored in a metal warehouse with lots of potential RF/Electromechanical interference...

How come when my Iphone gets stolen, ATT doesn't permanently disable it? Or help me track the thief? it would be easy, they could hard wire a chip with the GPS, and unauthorized logins would trace back to where the user was.
Now why would a greedy Corporation do something that;
1. Costs AT&T time & money, unless you have a court order they aint gonna expend 1 gram of effort in helping you recover your phone.
2. Prevents them from selling you a new phone possibly @ an unsubsidized price or getting you on a $175 ETF + another 2 year contract on a phone.
3. The owner of the purloined iPhone will establish service w/ or upgrade existing services w/AT&T making AT&T $$

There is a story here on MR where an iPhone owner used the 'Find my iPhone' feature with a laptop+Wifi and got his phone back. AT&T does have a free trial of 'Family finder?' which COULD help you locate the phone, but...

How did they get all 4,000 out of the roof?

good point. unless they used the roof just as an entry point - but then again why would the article discuss that the hole was just above the iphones. and 4,000 iphones would be a lot to move - even with their minimalist packaging. this was quite a big heist and could net the thieves some serious money.

Dont worry the police will catch the bad boys, then to let them escape from one of our prisons using helicopters or just the front gate of the Justitie Paleis in Brussels..

Belgium... a criminals' Paradise. :D

This reminds of me of the Apple Store heist in New Jersey. :p

I really wonder how did they get 4k iPhones out of the building...

Then you, sir,

smart jack move..

I hope they get away.

are a fool. This type of spift hurts every honest, law-abiding person.

A hole directly above the iPhones? It won't be long before the inside man is identified and the thieves are caught. Maybe they'll try to run from LEO and get put under the ground, saving everyone the trouble and expense of settling the score.

It doesn't sound like a simple jack move, it took planning, and it was executed well.

I still hope they get away..

robbery and theft are two different things..

I don't condone violence in any way shape or form.

still hope they get away though..

Ahh, ok, if you want to be specific - I hope your apartment gets robbed and you never recover your belongings. (while you are away of course, so there is no 'violence' - that makes it more justifiable)

well, again, stealing from a business compared to a home invasion is not the same..

but still, if anyone is gonna steal my stuff it's going to be me, then I double up through home owners insurance..

but if it happened, and they managed to bypass my security system, I can't say they didn't do a good job.

no one gives enough credit to smart criminals.

Well considering that smart criminals, just like (not-so) smart criminals cost the various law enforcement agencies, n police departments millions if not billions of pounds/dollars (you choose the currency) to track em down, and get them behind bars. I dont want to give them credit for it really, i mean the lose of those 4k of iphones~3billion in cash is gonna cost apple (not that they cant afford it anyways) but still it would be nice to know that they are comfortable with what they have. They have money to play with, but if these thefts keep going on, those money piles will start dwindling somewhat, even if only slowly.

Second to that the iphones being sold on the black market, will also drive up prices in other areas, because that money isnt going to apple, its going to some hood rat in the market.. Thus, if you wanna see apple, a pioneering computer/electronic accessories manufacturer stay up, and provide us with quality products, i'd strongly recommend people buy from the official shops/stores. Helps us all out :)

I suppose you wish you were part of the real italian job eh? Or were you?? lol! :p

Amazing! That's like an entire episode of Law & Order in four sentences! Impressively, it retains the same sense of mind-numbing predictability and folksy, dime store "wisdom".
