True so more than ever thanks to your ‘helpful’ tips article yesterday. Inevitably spurred on other outlets and ‘influencers’ to follow suit that has no doubt aided casuals and scalpers in their desire to profit from the short supply

So true! Veterans have been in the game for so long knowing these tips and now Macrumors have provided the uninformed much needed help.

I can’t knock Macrumors since they are looking for clicks and attention, but definitely unfortunate for me cause I’ve known those tips and this launch has only become difficult.

"Of the nearly 2,500 readers who responded to our Twitter poll, 45 percent said they plan to pre-order the iPhone X as soon as Apple flips the switch."

And here I thought no one would be buying it because the notch is “utterly unacceptable.”

LOL

Are you suggesting that 1125 Apple fanboys preordering the phone proves that the notch is an acceptable design choice? Nice logic.

Conversly, you could argue macrumors readers might be LESS likely than the average user to buy right away, since theyre savvy to the ‘first release bugs’ that apple can have. Plus they know theyre losing very reliable touch id for something unknown - as far as reliability/usability , face id.

There's a difference though between being savvy enough, and being able to resist the temptation. :)

I thought long and hard about it and I’m sticking with my 6s. All that money and all I would be getting is a bigger OLED display, Face ID, extra space and a better camera. I’m fine with the size of the display on the 6s and I think the current display is fine for what I do on the device, I’m only using 55 GB of the 128 GB I have on the 6s, I like Touch ID and am not sure Face ID will be better just yet and I don’t take many photos or videos on the phone so a better camera has no appeal to me.

I can see why many people would want to pay for those features but when there isn’t one new feature that you think is a “must have” why drop $1000+ on a phone? 10 years ago when I was in my mid 20’s I would’ve done it just to have the latest and greatest but I’m past that phase in my life.

I have a feeling the 9 will be next years iteration of the 8, the Xs will be the next iteration of the X, and finally in 2019 all iPhones will have OLED displays and Face ID. At that point I’ll be ready to dump the 6s due to its age.

If Face ID proves to be a game changer maybe I’ll buy the X if the price drops when the next iteration of the X ships next year.

It's incredible that such huge numbers of people are all waiting to pull the trigger on pre-orders at 12:01am on Friday morning. Apple could literally receive 100 million pre-orders within a few hours based on my calculations.

If it was £800 and had a headphone jack I'd order one... I just cannot justify £1150 and the inability to use my headphones. I do have three pairs of wireless and AirPods, but I still need my wired pair as wireless sucks when on a run.

good one less phone that can be mine :p
If I get it by Thanksgiving i'll be content.

I dunno why everyone wants that, the Silver looks much better as you can tell right away it's polished steel on the sides.

I think the other half either wants to wait and see it in person, an in-store experience at a location of their choice, to skip the initial launch batch, or still debating if it’s worth putting a hole in the wallet for the 10 over the 8/8 Plus.

I’m personally hoping for an in-store experience sometime next month.

Just over six weeks after the iPhone X was unveiled, pre-orders for the highly-anticipated device will finally begin on Friday at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time.

iphone-x-video-grab.jpg

Of the nearly 2,500 readers who responded to our Twitter poll, 45 percent said they plan to pre-order the iPhone X as soon as Apple flips the switch. The remaining 55 percent of users indicated they will not be pre-ordering at this time.

iPhone X can be pre-ordered through Apple.com, but we recommend using the Apple Store app to complete the process as quickly as possible.

Apple's first batch of iPhone X inventory will likely sell out very quickly, so time is of the essence. Given consistent reports about the iPhone X being in tight supply due to production issues, waiting even five minutes to place your pre-order could result in your order being shipped several weeks or months later.

MacRumors has a live countdown on our front page that indicates exactly when iPhone X pre-orders begin around the world.

iPhone X will go on sale in more than 55 countries and territories on Friday, November 3. Apple confirmed that stores will have stock available for walk-in customers on launch day, but availability will likely be extremely limited. On the same day, the first pre-orders should begin arriving to customers.

In a separate Twitter poll earlier this week, the iPhone X in Space Gray with 256GB of storage proved to be the most popular pre-order choice among over 6,500 readers who voted. The least popular configuration was Silver/64GB.

iPhone X starts at $999 in the United States with 64GB of storage, while the 256GB model is available for $1,149.

Article Link: Nearly Half of MacRumors Readers Polled Say They'll Pre-Order the iPhone X on Friday
No **** they will, you should really poll the ones who initially complained about the price and so on and will cave just to follow the fad and the masses! If only they stuck to there word and didn’t purchase it actually like we all know they will

Less than half will pre-order? what was the % for the 5/6/7? I'm sure it was much higher than this.

Meanwhile I will be saving 95% by being content with the phone I got last Black Friday, and playing Mario Odyssey.

It seems like the headline and article both make that pretty clear.

"Nearly Half of MacRumors Readers Polled..."

"Of the nearly 2,500 readers who responded to our Twitter poll..."

I disagree. It’s a disingenuous headline with a relatively small sample (I assume your readers are >>>2500) of data collected from a self selected survey.

It's nearly not half of MacRumors readers, it's nearly half of people that voted.

I'm not making any claims to the statistical validity of the survey. I was simply pointing out that there was no statement made or implied that this survey represented half the MR readers.
