I'm having a hard time with this decision as well. I have 6 plus. I'm struggling to decide I should get this x or x plus....hard choice.I thought long and hard about it and I’m sticking with my 6s. All that money and all I would be getting is a bigger OLED display, Face ID, extra space and a better camera. I’m fine with the size of the display on the 6s and I think the current display is fine for what I do on the device, I’m only using 55 GB of the 128 GB I have on the 6s, I like Touch ID and am not sure Face ID will be better just yet and I don’t take many photos or videos on the phone so a better camera has no appeal to me.
I can see why many people would want to pay for those features but when there isn’t one new feature that you think is a “must have” why drop $1000+ on a phone? 10 years ago when I was in my mid 20’s I would’ve done it just to have the latest and greatest but I’m past that phase in my life.
I have a feeling the 9 will be next years iteration of the 8, the Xs will be the next iteration of the X, and finally in 2019 all iPhones will have OLED displays and Face ID. At that point I’ll be ready to dump the 6s due to its age.
If Face ID proves to be a game changer maybe I’ll buy the X if the price drops when the next iteration of the X ships next year.
This. A good idea ceases to be one when everything is using it.True so more than ever thanks to your ‘helpful’ tips article yesterday. Inevitably spurred on other outlets and ‘influencers’ to follow suit that has no doubt aided casuals and scalpers in their desire to profit from the short supply
I don't mind standing alone on this. I think it's ugly and full of inelegant "solutions". If someone gave me one, I'd sell it. I dislike it that much.No. No offence but "those of us that don't like the phone and wouldn't own it even if it were gifted to us" don't exist.
That’s exactly it for me. I had a 6s+ that I had a little over $240 to finish paying off on... I wanted to have some value for it. I saw little value to continue making payments on it when I knew I’d be replacing it anyway and there was no way I was ordering the X off the bat and waiting for it (let someone deal with the 1st gen design bugs.) So I got the 8+ and it’s not without its problems that I hoped going from that 6s+ to the 8+ would have gotten rid of. I can only imagine what the X will be like if they couldn’t get that right. Actually, I wound paying off the phone because it’s worth $320 trade in at Verizon towards my wife’s new phone... which is close to a brand new 128GB SE which is she wants. Win win.I think the other half either wants to wait and see it in person, an in-store experience at a location of their choice, to skip the initial launch batch, or still debating if it’s worth putting a hole in the wallet for the 10 over the 8/8 Plus.
I’m personally hoping for an in-store experience sometime next month.
Normally, I’d agree. But there are some big changes in this one. Let’s put it this way, my brand new 8+ has a few quirks and is downright slow for certain functions. I don’t know if they’re IOS 11 issues but they shouldn’t be happening at all.I don’t buy the ‘first release bugs’ idea. I’ve owned plenty of day one iPhones, typing on my launch day iPhone 6 Plus that still works like a beast.
I know plenty of folks who have had iPhone issues and didn’t buy anywhere close to launch.
It’s just a thing to say.
Based on this poll, and given that people from all around the world read MacRumors, I think it's safe to assume that about half of the entire world's population will pre-order an iPhone X on Friday. It's the most successful product launch ever!
News Flash: People who read about the latest Apple rumors want the most advanced phone Apple has come out with.
Yeah, but what really counted is what your arsehole wanted to do“Almost half of MacRumors readers polled...” huh?
I didn’t take part in the poll, but my legs and feet and part of my lower posterior all said they wanted to pre-order an iPhone X on Friday. However, my arms, hands, the rest of my torso, neck and head all said they did not wish to pre-order an iPhone X on Friday. So in my case at least, almost half of this MacRumors reader tallied with the poll, and said I’d pre-order the iPhone X on Friday. Oddly, my left earlobe said it would like to pre-order an iPhone X, just not on Friday, but he’s a crazy body part who just likes to be contrary.
Most of my internal organs did not pass comment separately, but I can say that my heart remains with the iPhone SE.
Good luck to everyone pre-ordering anyway.
Keep in mind, the X has the same effective screen size as the 6s+. It is a tough choice driven by a lot of factors. If I owned my 6s+ outright, I may have been more ameanable to hanging onto it. The thought of continuing to pay money for a phone that was declining in value didn’t make much sense to me. My only option was the 8,8+ or X. If I that desperately decide I want a X, I can upgrade in a year. Getting an 8 pushes out that descion. I personally hate the idea of a non-physical reset button - since the IOS 11 upgrade I’ve had to use it - a lot. So no X for me yet.I'm having a hard time with this decision as well. I have 6 plus. On instagram, people are commenting apple’s page with negativity...mostly negativity if not all. I know this thing will sell but from what i seen from there, people are mostly complaining about ios related on their old hardwares.Yeah, but what really counted is what your arsehole wanted to do(Remember the old joke about the body fighting about which part is most important?)

But it has problems on the new hardware as well. I agree about the survey. A lot of people, including myself, weren’t sure what they were going to do. I answered that survey as if I was going to the X, because at that point in time I was waiting until the X release and then I was going to make up my mind. But when more rumors started to hit about shipping delays and problems with face scan, I realized there was a good possibility I’d have paid off my old phone which would be then worthless. On instagram, people are commenting apple’s page with negativity...mostly negativity if not all. So, did you pre-order the x? Apple did a bad job with supplies this year. With this delay, it could be a bust for a lot of potential buyers. Now, it might get people to wait till next year for newer models of x (if the rumors are true.).But it has problems on the new hardware as well. I agree about the survey. That was my reasoning for bailing on the X. If I really want it. I can upgrade in October. Did not preorder the X. I bought an 8+. Honestly, not much of an improvement over the 6s+ (I can’t tell the difference yet, honestly.... camera doesn’t seem any better nor is it faster, in fact it has new issues that I thought were fixed already) but I can’t tell if it’s IOS related or not. New quirky issues like .. launch messaging and the button to create a new message doesn’t appear. Launch it a second time, it works. If I were to advise anyone who owns their 6S+ outright, hang onto it... don’t bite for the 8 or the X yet until Apple gets these issues sorted out. Also, IMHO, if the 8 isn’t solid and it’s basically a incremental upgrade on the 7, what kind of problems will a brand new engineering design have? What would be an interesting experiment is it put IOS 10 the 8’s and see if it fixes the bugs. Sorry to wander off thread topic. So, did you pre-order the x? For the hardware, yeah, every models will have some problems, but without iOS functioning properly (due to various bugs reported by people) the hardware is useless.

I think so too. I still wonder why Apple effectively cloned the competition and called it an "anniversary edition". Doesn't make sense to me. They should have had a true design innovation.....something on the order of the original classic blackberry with the single touch keyboard and the scroll wheel (not the style, the design innovation). But then again - they don't have to innovate any more. They've got a bunch of fanbots that will just swallow what they're given. Will I leave the architecture? If there was a supported "hackintosh" iOS device, I'd think about it. As of now, no. Tim Cook is a marketer, not a visionary. Crank out those high markup watchbands. Steve Jobs was a marketer too, but he was a design freak first.I see it as a transition design that will get tweaked over the next two versions.
Same. I call X the Generation 4 design. I just think of it like automobiles that have about 5 models per generation. The iPhone 4 and 5 series are essentially the same design.I think so too. You are so right. I rarely buy the 1st gen if anything. I think the next big focus should be on better integration. Complete integration of the watch, the phone, the Pod and your vehicle. Being able to train your devices. I love the AirPods. If the Apple Watch could really take the place of my phone I would probably consider buying it. Not yet. I need a 46mm option. I don’t need a $400 watch to tell time... although authentication to auto log to my MBP would be convienent.Same. I call X the Generation 4 design. 2007-2009
2010-2013
2014-2017
2017-2021
2022-2026?
Next year's X will look like it before the tail-end of the generation will be slightly tweaked like different rear materials or much smaller notch.
We might only see one major design change until iPhone XX knowing how conservative Apple is if you look at their other product line (MacBook, iPads) looking similar. By then, would people care for iPhones in another ten years like in this decade?
The Generation 5 iPhones will be ones without Lightning Connector. Only the power button will exist. Volume becomes onscreen. AirPods, AirPower, and Apple Watch are still immature. Give it 5 years. Wireless charging speed will also get faster.
I predicted I would get a pretty good night sleep and I did. Going to sleep a little more. My attitude with the X is this. I don't wait on the X. Let the X wait for me. Denzel is right that we become slaves and let it dictate our habits.
The price won’t get better for a while. I’ll be honest with you - I have an 8+ and it doesn’t seem any better than my old 6s+. I just couldn’t fathom paying for another 6 months of 2 generations old technology.Too expensive, not sure about how much screen estate people are really going to win with the notch and their new way of returning to the home screen, and the fact that you're forced to shell out an extra $200 CAD on the 256GB version if you want 128GB in your phone doesn't cut it for me.
I had always planned to keep my 6s for another year though. I'll wait until they improve the UI and the price.
