iPhone 5 won't have unlimited data if Verizon goes tiered pricing. That is the bottom line.

You are just wrong.
If you already have a feature and are currently a Verizon customer, they won't make you remove it when you sign a new contract. If you are a new customer, they will make you select from the new features.

If you have unlimited data, you can drop it once the tiered pricing comes out. No one is stopping you from doing that ...

Signing a new contract technically means you are a new customer.

Different ball game with Verizon. Clearly you haven't deal with Verizon.

Once Verizon removes the unlimited plan, it will be gone from their systems so when you activate an iPhone 5, they can only add back on the tiered plans. The unlimited plan won't be an option in the system for them to add back on.

I own a verizon store so i think i know what im talking about.

Verizon will let you keep the Unlimited plan until you CHOOSE to take it off. The only time they will tell you you have to change the plan to upgrade to the phone is if they tier 4G plans ever. So no one needs to worry until a LTE iphone.

As others have said, I would be willing to bet that those who have unlimited will KEEP unlimited as long as they stay on that network.

When AT&T and Verizon start using their next networks (whether LTE or whatever), these networks will require "new" contracts for EVERYONE hence everyone on unlimited will be forced to choose a new one

NOBODY with unlimited will be grandfathered into the next technologies by Verizon & AT&T

No way they allow consumers to watch 2-3 Netflix movies over there networks. How DARE the consumer!

I'm sorry, but where have you been during the past 12 months? AT&T only forced NEW CUSTOMERS onto the NEW data plans. I clearly remember this when they announced tiered data plans.

However, I do agree that there could be a strong possibility that buying a subsidized iPhone 5 would mean signing a contract that could potentially NULL my unlimited data plan. However, didn't AT&T allow grandfathering of unlimited data onto subsidized iPhone 4s?

Regardless of whether chris2K5 is right or not, I think nearly everyone agrees that NEW Verizon customer's purchasing the next iPhone will likely not have unlimited data as an option. If unlimited is that important for you, the Palm Pixi route is probably your only option AND even then, is no guarantee you'll be able to get unlimited data. Not going this route and only using a dumb phone will ensure that unlimited data on the new iPhone is definitely NOT an option.

And for everyone claiming that Verizon will definitely grandfather unlimited data, show me where in your agreement that is guaranteed? While it definitely wouldn't be good business and the PR hit would be significant, there is NOTHING from stopping any carrier from changing the conditions of your contract, especially if you are signing a NEW 2 yrs agreement when you get the next iPhone. If you really want an iPhone, what are your other options, AT&T (which also does not offer an unlimited data plan to new customers)? I personally think Verizon will grandfather unlimited data but really wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.

Just Google Verizon Unlimited and even the president of Verizon says that they will be moving EVERYONE off the unlimited plan in the near future. Even AT&T will be moving us off unlimited.

The truth is that no one knows anything right now. Everyone is just speculating on what will happen down the road.

The best hope for Verizon customers who currently have unlimited data is for Sprint to get the next iPhone and keep their unlimited data option. That will put a lot of pressure on Verizon to grandfather everyone in.

I know I would leave for a Sprint iPhone with unlimited data is Verizon took away mine.

Same I am moving all lines over to Sprint if they take away unlimited. I can't justify paying that much for tiered data.

this is true, however, if it's part of you contract it will stay there until you choose to add something that doesn't allow it. I've still got the $5 unlimited txt,pix from 6 years ago that they discontinued a long time ago, they still ogle my account whenever I go in because I'm one of the only ones who still has it in their customer base. I also have unlimited data with a Pixi Plus, this will be grandfathered into my next contract.

Also for those wondering about subsidized pricing, if you renew your contract without "upgrading" your handset, you can still get the subsidized pricing after about 3 months into your contract. My brother is on the same contract as me and our contract isn't able to be renewed until Dec. he just bought an iPhone 4 last month, he walked in and they sold it to him subsidized. no hassle about renewing contract or signing new one.

Here's how it works:

If you have an unlimited plan on Verizon right now, that means you signed up for the unlimited plan. However, by the way things are looking, they are scrapping unlimited data for new contracts. Because every time you get a new phone on Verizon you sign a new plan, that means that there would be no way of getting unlimited data on Verizon...

...unless iPhone 5 has 4G. If it does, you could potentially lock in unlimited 4G data by getting an HTC Thunderbolt or Samsung Droid Charge.

TL;DR Verizon doesn't have 3G sim cards, thus you have to sign a new contract every time you get a new phone. Because newer contracts won't have unlimited data, it will be impossible to keep/grandfather unless Verizon makes a special deal.

Exactly. Thats what I've been saying for the past few posts. Yet some posters who have no idea what they are talking about insist otherwise. They are just uneducated on Verizon policy.

 Yeah? I hope you're employees are just as educated as you are on the policy. I don't take what store owners or Verizon employees say seriously anymore. You guys have unreliable knowledge.

Chris2k5 **** and eat a d*ck. and stop trolling! trekker same for u!
Unlimited folks now will be able to keep unlimited until they change, just like att let current unlimited folks keep their unlimited data when upgrading to the iphone or even an Android 4G device.

Only new customers will be affected.

Also why I don't care about the possibility of loosing my number with AT&T. Nobody even knows it lol. I've never given it out! hehe

I <3 Google Voice

And, I've heard that if you get a plan that includes a "Fav 5" feature, you can just add your google number to get free calling as well =)

Op, even if the iphone 5 is delayed until september, hopefully the pixi will be enough to entertain you until then.

I would get an OG Droid from craigslist instead. They are by far better than the pixi and retain value fairly well. It will give you the android equivalent of an iphone 3gs experience and probably won't cost much more than the pixi.

additional advice:
Make sure the person you're buying it from meets you at the verizon store and don't give them any money until verizon tells you it has a clean esn and they will activate it.

What the hell is your problem, man?

Change = iPhone 5 upgrade. You just contradicted yourself.

your an idiot man!
VZW Unlimited data folks will be able to keep unlimited data until they change choose to change to another data plan. Upgrading to a NEW phone will not change your data plan!

Let me explain it simply. You buy a palm pixi for 58 dollars or whatever it is and sign a contract for two years with Verizon giving you unlimited 3g data. When iPhone 5 is released you pick it up at full price and change the device on your account. Giving your iPhone 5 unlimited 3g.
