I use an app called Wrist:Home, which is free and let's me control the Nest as much as I need to from my watch. It was a bit patchy at first, but has had a few bug fixes since its release and now seems to be functioning fully and the < & > buttons are now visible and functional for turning the temperature up and down.

I've got all my home automation covered with the Apple Watch. Hue light controlled with official hue app for selected scenes and Hue Widget for dimming of those scenes when required. Sam Mote for controlling my TV. Remote App firvApple Tv control. My Nest controlled as mentioned above. Music can be pushed to speakers all through the house. All I need now is for Sky TV to come up with an app that lets me control my box and I'm fully covered from the watch I think.

Visuals are great, but it's pretty buggy and laggy. Can't wait to see what the developer fixes in the next update.

I just downloaded the update and now it doesn't work at all. When you click on the icon on the watch it won't even open.

I had to delete the app from the phone and reinstall. It seems most of my concerns were fixed. Only time will tell.

Good to hear it wasn't just me with these issues with wrist nest. I notified them last week of the arrow issue and they were very responsive and fixed quickly. I just put in a request to display the mode cooling or heating. I too had to uninstall and reinstall app on iPhone for latest update to work.

BTW: I was doing some searching around last night and found this cool App: http://www.skylarkios.com

It ties in with geofencing on your iPhone to set the Away/Not Away setting on your Nest when you leave/come home. The big feature is that it can keep track of multiple people in your house... so if one person leaves but your partner is still at home then the service knows it and doesn't set the thermostat to "Away".

I started a trial for it last night... and "used" it today and it seems like it's working well. The trial is for 14 days which I think is pretty generous and should allow enough time to see if it's worth paying monthly for.

To tie it in with the thread... when you leave/arrive it gives you an alert on your Apple Watch where you can "Undo" what it has done. So if you're leaving just to run to the store really quickly and you'll be back in 10 minutes you can press "Undo" on the message on your watch and it undo setting the Nest to Away mode (so your air will stay on while you're gone for 10 minutes).

Anyway... thought some of you would be interested in it...

That is very interesting in concept, however will it still be "allowed" to come out of away to pre-cool or pre-heat?

AKA I typically get home at 5:30 and nest starts cooling in time to get the house down to temp by that time. I have to wonder if skylark overrides that and won't "start" the cooling process until I get inside the geofence....?

Anything you may see during your testing around this would be appreciated feedback!

Hey Friedmud, thanks for suggesting our app!

To answer your question, no, your Nest will not come out of away to pre-cool or pre-heat. We're limited by the Nest API on this. The only way that we could effectively achieve this is to activate auto-away instead of the more permanent away, but we don't have access to this.

One of the problems with allowing pre-heat and pre-cool to kick in (if it becomes possible in the future) is that there's a bit of a clash between your schedule and your physical home/away status at this point. For instance, if you and your housemate/partner/etc are both atypically away from the house after work, do you really want pre-heat kicking in even though you don't plan on coming home anytime soon?

How we've tried to address this problem is to allow you to set whatever sized "return" radius around your home. It doesn't account for all cases, but it does allow you to trigger your Nest thermostat to "home" before you actually get home, giving your HVAC some extra time to heat or cool your home.

Thumbs up for the Skylark app.

It fills in the huge missing piece in the Nest's interface...geofencing. I've been testing it with two iPhones and Skylark hasn't missed a beat. It correctly figures out if we're both gone or if one of us is still at home.

The watch addition is very handy.

Nice work. Thanks!

You bet, glad it's helping you! To those interested, our app is available at skylarkios.com and on the Apple App Store.

Thank you for the detailed response, it is appreciated.

I understand the challenge, and do think its great that you're allowing to set the geofence radius, that is excellent.

At this point, I'm interested enough to give the trial a run, but think that limitation may make it impractical for "me" during weekdays as I really appreciate the pre-cooling feature since we both happen to have pretty regular schedules on weekdays, and work close enough to home that the geofence we'd have to set wouldn't really allow for time enough to make much difference. I can see that working well for many though.

If nothing else though, this would be fantastic during weekend travel.

If it doesn't work out, I'll keep an eye out for updates in the event they decide to provide more capabilities through the API in the future!

We've had other users interested in a feature like this. Our product suggestion site currently has a thread going. If you don't mind, add a comment and vote for the feature there and you'll be notified if/when we add the feature:

I was afraid of this when Google bought Nest. They kept claiming and saying "Nest will remain independent from Google" and "We are still committed to iOS." However, the last year has proved exactly what we all feared, Nest simply doesn't care about the Apple ecosystem and Google wants to use Nest to their advantage. Pre-Google Nest would have had a Watch App on launch day. I think it might be time to remove myself from the Nest ecosystem, which is a shame, it is a great device.

Nest is trippin. How do they not have an app out yet? It's not that hard they made one for the iPhone are they really that lazy?

No problem. I'm a software developer myself... so when I see a good service I'll promote it!

So far Skylark has been rock solid for me. I'll definitely be subscribing!

I'm worried about this as well.

We'll have to wait and see what Homekit is like. If Nest completely refuses then I'll definitely dump them and hookup with a Homekit enabled thermostat...

My gripe with Thessa right now is I only seem to be able to adjust the temp in increments of two.

I found an app called Wrist:Home which "works with Nest" but it's extremely buggy and unpolished. Any Nest app should use the digital crown to control temperature.

I'm trying this one too. Shame it doesn't use the digital crown.

Yup, it seems an ideal candidate for a good watch app. Not sure why they are asking people to vote for it. Maybe they are waiting to be able to use the digital crown.

I can adjust in .5 Celsius Increments.

I think they are lazy since they have the works with Nest API.

Nest hasn't had anything new since Google purchased them.

I should have noted that I'm in Fahrenheit...
