I feel like they must be waiting for home kit or something. This should have been out already. So many apps are useless for this watch.

Yeah I would not have a lot of faith in a Nest app on the watch anytime soon. Seems like they haven't really done anything other than rebrand dropcam in the past year.

They just integrated Dropcam to the Nest iPhone app, so hopefully they will get it on the watch soon.

Just weighing in on the discussion. I've purchased a number of the Nest thermostat control apps for the Apple Watch. I was disappointed with all of them. Then along came Branch the other week to the App Store. This was the Nest app I was looking for. It lets me switch to heat, cool, heat/cool, or off and on. It provides fan control, doesn't round the temperature like some other apps (shows one decimal place). I had a few minor issues with the app, but the developer contacted me and said they had been resolved and an update has been submitted to Apple. I use this app as my default Nest app on Apple Watch now. Hoping the developer will add the ability to switch between away and home modes, and show humidity levels.

Just a few minutes ago the app Kontroln has an update which fixed the problem/bug where the iPhone app had to be running for the Apple Watch app to work. It is nicest looking app I think but cannot change modes like hot/cool etc. but you can toggle fan with force touch. Hope they add hot/cool modes. So far Branch works best on the Apple Watch because it adds most control features.

JoshVB, thanks for letting us know. Works great.

No Problem. Hoping that the developer continues to update their app with additional features. Biggest issue I ran into with Branch and the other third party Nest apps is that I could overload the Nest API. Third party Nest apps are only allowed to send so many Nest API requests (for example, when you change the temperature from your third party app, this counts as an API request) during a specific period. If the developer is sending a change request to the Nest API with each press of the temperature up or down button, their app will be quickly blocked from making additional changes for a specific time period. I suggested to the Branch developers that they only submit a temperature change request to the nest API after a delay. That means that if you're changing the temperture for heating from 72F to 80F, their app wouldn't request the Nest API change for 72.5, 73, 73.5... etc. It would just send one Nest API request to go to 80F once you stopped pushing the temperature up button. Their next update is supposed to resolve this issue.

Regards,

Josh

Has Branch been removed from the app store, I can't find it ?

Edited, I found it

I'm back to using thessa now. Only thing they need to add is fan control.
One of the reasons I like it is because of the quick access on iPad and iPhone using notification widget. Since it also works with watch it is only one app which does all.

I was tired of my nest being off by 3-5 degrees, the integration of home kit is wonderful, and the watch app played no part at all to be honest, but I do use it. The extra sensors are wonderful as I can set them at night to go off the sensor in my room and not the main sensor on the device in the living room, for some reason our room always gets very cool, so if its 70 in the room at night and 74 in the living room then it turns off based off the temp in the room. Saves energy in my opinion, of course this is just a setting and you can use it as you wish. I sold the nest for 200.00 and got the ecobee for 229.00 at Home Depot, so for those that care how I spend my own money, yes it was worth it.

The the rate that they are implementing HomeKit and Siri integration... I wouldn't hold your breath.
Nest is turning their back on iPhone.

Or they're waiting for HomeKit/Siri to mature a little. I have it with my Ecobees. It's nice, but it definitely doesn't seem fully baked quite yet.
