Does everyone who has this problem have iOS 4.0.2? The app may have a bug specific to 4.0.2. It works fine for me 4.0 (didn't care to update), by the way.

Using iPhone 4 on 4.0.

I think it has something to do with my wifi or router or something as it works fine on 3g. It doesn't work on my friend's iphone when he's here and is on my wifi as well.

People who are having this problem, what router/firmware are you using?

I'm using an Asus rt-n16 w/ latest dd-wrt firmware.

edit: I've just confirmed this by jumping on a neighbors unsecured wifi and it does work. So it's definitely a wifi issue.

Get an Airport Extreme. You won't be disappointed. I wasn't sure how much better a router could be until I took the plunge and bought a Extreme. I'll never go back to my Linksys just like I will never go back to windows.

How come I missed this yesterday? Geez.. lol

It looks great on 3G, especially on Wifi. Wohoooo!

Yep it's looking like it's a wifi/possible router issue. I've been able to stream via 3G in another area of the house that has a better 3G signal. I'm using a Linksys WRT600N also using DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) mega (SVN revision 14896) for the WRT610 router.

But that's the point of having an app. I can get most things on the web, but it's nice (and would seem ********** obvious) to have the queue on the app.

I'm sure they will get queue management in, they just wanted to get the app out first. Meanwhile there are many usable alternatives.

Awesome! I'm downloading it to my iPod right now...

And...darn, I was hoping I'd be able to manage my queue too...though I still can from the web site.

Guess it's just for streaming stuff. Oh well, hopefully it'll work well. The interface seems nice.

The app works great over 3G on my iPhone 4. Buffers in a few seconds, then plays smoothly. Anyone know if we get better quality over Wi-Fi? I haven't noticed much of a difference, but haven't really used it much on Wi-Fi. Glad I stuck with the unlimited plan though.

How is Neflix's instant queue selection these days anyway? I was very unimpressed when I did my 30-day trial a month or two ago. Are new DVD releases now available for instant streaming?

Can anyone answer this?

Nope, and it appears Netflix has signed an agreement to make those movies available 30 days after the release of the DVD/BD.

The selection is getting a little better. But things don't stay on forever (some expires). The indie section is pretty well rounded though...

I'm not sure about improvements over the last few months, but I think their selection is pretty decent overall. I mostly watch television series over their streaming service, then use blu-ray deliverys for movies. I'll probably never use their iPhone app, but its nice to have in case I'm stuck somewhere and need some video content. Certainly a step forwards in the streaming video world.

Anyone think iTunes is trying to get in to the Netflix business? I can't see any reason to use iTunes at its current capacity.

I'm also on revision 14896. It seems to be a DD-WRT issue. As seen in this thread here:

Apparently downgrading to dd-wrt.v24-14826_NEWD-2_K2.6_big or earlier fixes the problem.

edit: confirmed fix. Downgraded to revision 14815 and it fixed the problem.

Retina display, Netflix on demand...

I have died and gone to heaven. It works fantastically well.

I am shocked that Apple allowed this app as it seems to blow away the need for renting movies (assuming you belong to Netfix). But very happy they did.

Streaming is the future. Subscription based streaming is the way.

(Although Rhapsody works well for music, and now Netflix for movies, I am still waiting for Apple to provide similar subscription streaming services via iTunes)

Why are you shocked? Apple has already allowed Netflix on the iPad as well as many other services on their iPad and iPhone that you can say compete with iTunes.

Besides, all Apple wants to do is sell their iDevices. The itunes service is just a means to an end and the money they make on it is a pittance compared to what they make selling the hardware.

That's why they're always trying to get the content producers to lower the prices (like the recent push to get tv shows down to 99 cent) and remove the DRM from iTunes content (like they did already for music). They want the iTunes and iOS app experience to be superior to any other so you will keep buying their hardware. There is no question Apple is happy Netflix is now on the iPhone.

This app would be pointless in the UK (to those iPhone 4 users who want it) as all our networks have 500mb / 750mb monthly caps now.

Not if you're on GiffGaff, truly unlimited data for as little as £10/month, or even £5 in the current 1/2 price sale. Just in case anyone is interested in joining, PM me to request a sim w/ £5 free credit. Shameless plug.

Having the same problem with my iPhone 4 w iOS 4.0.2. It works on other wi-fi networks, and over 3g, so it's clearly a router issue.

I've got a plain old Linksys WRT54GS router -- I'm not using dd-wrt or non-standard OS on it.

Anyone have insight to the problem? Specific router settings that might need adjusting? Any help is appreciated.
