They do have ads yes, but they aren't always visible. The channel interfaces have much improved in recent years. Depending on the channel, the interface is on par, or the same as the same app on the Apple TV, or other streaming devices. I've used both platforms for a few years together now, and I'm so used to both. I don't even think about stuff like ads most of the time. Hey, at least the Youtube channel on the Roku supports 4K/ HDR, the latest Youtube update for apple TV still Doesn't do that. I tried it.

4K YouTube works on my Samsung KS8000 which is an older Samsung TV. Roku having apps that are on par with Apple TV? Somehow I doubt that. Granted, the last Roku I used was built in to a TCL and a Roku 3. Both were slow and clunky... and the apps are not that polished.

VERY limited.

I agree with you there, and some of the old channels are still that way, but any modern Roku channel / player has had some nice changes. For a stand alone player the Roku Ultra is the best performer and has the most flexibility. The others are more the budget friendly, even though $100 for the Ultra isn't that bad either.

My 4K TV is a Sony from 2016, and it runs Android TV. Only supports HDR 10, and HLG. Most of the content I like isn't even 4k (as of yet) so I usually just use my 1080p TV, and the Sony when I want something in HDR.

Anyone can explain the following?
This is what my AVR shows when watching „Ratched“ on Neflix:

As you can see it says 2.0 as input and 5.1.0 as output and indeed e. g. the voices come from the center speaker and the surround speakers also output something.

Your AVR is processing the 2.0 signal and creating a 'faux' 5.1 mix. Probably in the AVR settings somewhere.

Was it released today? I'll have to check when I get home. Thanks.
It must haven been. When I checked 6 or 7 hours ago, there wasn't an update available. When I tried it again just now, it downloaded.

Yes. I am facing to the same issue as well with Netflix app and iOS14 on Apple TV 4K set top box since app update on sep 22 th.
I am so sure that I could completely get atmos or 5.1 surround before update but currently only 2.0ch can be.
Other apps like Amazon prime video and Apple TV app can still get atmos or 5.1.
I strongly believe Netflix app update is causing this issue.

Have you tried updating the app manually? A update that fixes the issue was released a couple of hours ago but isn't installing automatically yet.

Thanks. I'll check when I get home. The version on my ATV is 2.1.16 from Sep 21/20.
Interestingly enough the version number hasn't changed with the update that downloaded. It was 2.1.16 before it updated just now and still is. But it definitly updated and fixed the issue. Maybe they didn't change the version number and just pushed it out as quickly as possible.

can you share the version of Netflix app after update?
I don’t see any update on Netflix app on my iOS and tvOS yet in AppStore in Japan.

Another affirmation of the fix here. My 14.0 outputs Atmos. Now, my 14.2 beta ATV is outputting 7.1, instead of 2.0, where it should be Atmos. But, that's a topic for a different thread...
