Why is 2 bucks such a big deal? Some people are overdoing it and being spoiled, 10 bucks alone per month for a service like that is very remarkable. There used to be a time not too long ago where we paid that same amount for 1 to 2 DVDs.

Because way too many people buy based on cost, not value.

they'll all come back. What else are you going to get for $9.99 a month that even comes close to Netflix?
Amazon, for me, getting more of my watch time each month. If it came down to one or the other, tough call, might just say good bye to Netflix. Fortunately I do not need to make the call. Both are good value. More quality choices are at least part of their growth issues.

Netflix, is silly to use their Original movies as a selling point since most in my opinion is mostly garbage.

I love OITNB and Bojack Horseman. I've heard from plenty of others who love those shows and many others, too.

Those two shows make up ~50% of the new TV content that I watch. I'm paying Comcast $50/month for the other 50%. I'm getting much better bang for my buck from Netflix than Comcast. But my wife insists that she needs her shows, and she pays the Comcast bill, so we stay.

I can get Amazon Prime for 99.00 for the year. This includes music and 2 day shipping on most products. Netflix, is silly to use their Original movies as a selling point since most in my opinion is mostly garbage. 12 months at at 10.00 plus tax and fees is not a good deal. I will be switching as soon as the cat in my account has been depleted. Adios Netflix.

It's not silly because Original programming is a HUGE part of what has allowed them to create high demand and keep their price as low as they have. In other words it's one of the main reasons for their success.

Prime is good if you really like ALL the things they offer but if we're comparing just their video service selection in terms of quantity and and general demand let's not act like they have anything close to Netflix.

All the services in Prime (Music, Movies, Books, etc) are all second rate when compared to services that focus solely on each.

It's the fact that they're all bundled together that makes it somewhat of deal for those it appeals to but it really is almost a "jack of all trades, ace of none" type of deal.

It is exactly that. Plus do I really watch $10 worth of Netflix a month, no. But I keep the subscription. It is a lot for maybe the few shows I watch every month. It would be nice if they could do a monthly fee based on what you watched that month. Like 25 cents a show or movie or something like that. I know thats not possible with licensing and stuff, but it would be ideal for some people who only use the service occasionally.

'Unexpected', really?

When you increase the price without adding more value, what did you think was going to happen?
Also, the tiered pricing for quality is a turn off for a lot of people.

The price increase happened years ago. The recent price increase was only for old Netflix users.

The story doesn't say how many people quit Netflix, only that the ammount of new subscribers was not as big as predicted.

So the conclusion that people quit Netflix because of the price increase is questionable.

Since we cut the cord 5 years ago, Netflix (with the very occasional iTunes rental) is pretty much our sole source of TV entertainment. Even though our content sucks by US standards (and I know that's not Netflix's fault), I think ~$10/month is a bloody good deal! I have a ton of stuff in my to-watch list, and I'm always adding new ones. Like others, though, I do wish they'd up their non-original programming a bit. I'm still waiting for the latest season of Doctor Who, dammit!

I cancelled, but not due to price.

Due to programme discovery being so poor, lack of off-line availability (to combat low bandwidth) and lack (on ATV at least) of being able to switch off auto play and view end credits. Netflix didn't listen or care, so my business went elsewhere.

Charging even more extra for 4K contents gives me the impression of them milking their subs.

Its not milking anything. 4K content requires even more server storage than typical HD content. Then you have ISPs billing both us and them for bandwidth usage. 4K requires a ton more bandwidth to deliver a steady stream. Then theres liscensing they need to pay for all their content and money needed to actually FUND original content. There are plenty of reasons why it costs more, even reasons that we may never know. If they really wanted to milk us prices could be FAR worse. Frankly for what they provide the price is still extremely low. Even so, god forbid a company actually PROFITS. Original programming and content licensing isn't free and the fees they charge is what is necessary to remain ad free.

I use Netflix for my TV Series. Currently going through Person of Interest and I've got a handful of others lined up. I pay for HBO Go too so we can get Game of Thrones and a few others. Finding HBO Go to be pretty cool because there are a lot of movies it has that we want to see.

The small price hike for Netflix doesn't bother me - I can't believe people are all flustered about a few dollars when renting a movie or going to the movies is 2-4x more. But if I had watched all the content in Netflix already then ok, I could understand. If you asked me if Netflix content has increased or decreased - I'd say it definitely hasn't increased. Some of the original content is interesting.

I don't pay for TV so paying for Netflix / HBO Go / and looking at Hulu doesn't bother me all that much.

I was considering stopping Netflix last week. Don't use the service that often and didn't feel like spending $7.99 anymore (didn't even realize it increased)... Then my wife and I found this show "Limitless" Friday night. Glad I stayed and even happier Netflix is making a second season out of it.

I'm not sure I agree with everyone's negative opinions on this. I've had Netflix for nearly a decade and can't recall more than 2 price increases? Even if it's more, over that span of time, it seems fair. They're turning into an HBO with programming coming up to match that of HBO and HBO is more expensive still.

Oh God! It really has been a decade hasn't it? Now I feel old.

The auto-play thing bugged me too, until I turned it off (yes, on my ATV). IIRC, it's under your profile settings. You can also view the end credits by selecting the little window in which they play, which will then expand that window to full screen again.

One feature I do wish Netflix would add is the ability to add suggested shows to your list, rather than immediately start watching them.
