Who outside Netflix didn't see this coming?

The competition is growing and haven't been raising their rates each year as Netflix has.

While Netflix has put a huge push behind original shows, they've ignored the other side, the people that want shows and movies found on network TV which they'd originally gotten the service to watch. This area has been pushed away while Netflix seems to focus only on the few original shows they're trying to shove down everyone's throats.
Umm Hulu has higher priced tiers and come August and the rest of the year they will have less content like no more cw shows, criterion and others.
Amazon increased their yearly fee to $99 as well.
I had all three. But just dropped Hulu yesterday after a year due to a lot of good stuff leaving.
What others are you referring to?

As a long time Netflix subscriber I don't even know what Netflix is anymore. Certainly not a place to watch new movies.
TV shoes and terrible original content is not what I'm looking for. I spend far more time on Hulu. At least the tv shows are recent episodes.

I still pay for Netflix out of FOMO and habit, but it's rare that I use the service anymore.

As a previous $7.99 subscriber, we were recently nagged on Netflix to accept the new $9.99 charge. We did so, then a few days later, got an email from Netflix confirming that I now had the UHD 4 screen $11.99/mo plan!!! WHAT? So I had to go online and change my plan to $9.99 2 screen HD plan.

I wonder how many people they are doing THIS to?

they'll all come back. What else are you going to get for $9.99 a month that even comes close to Netflix?
Amazon Prime Video has more content than Netflix does now and is only $8.99 a month or $10.99 a month if you want the rest of what Prime offers. Of course you can also buy it yearly and save more money.

Good time to invest in Netflix, they still haven't released in China yet. Plus the Disney deal should kick in soon. Also the new Star Trek series will air on Netflix in 2017.

The problem is that once you finish binging on all the decent shows and movies you have a dry well since they don't have a whole lot of original programming. Also with HBO, SHO, etc. having stand-alone offering now viewers can binge on their favorite programs a lot sooner than waiting for them to appear on Netflix. I think its going to be a lot tougher for Netflix to get people to sign up continuously @ $10/mo unless they offer enough new programming every month to hook people in.

$.25 a show? Seriously???
I mean I just picked a random number. The idea is that you pay per show you watch. Everyone I know watches like between 10 and 15 single episodes or movies on Netflix a month. While some others binge watch 5 or 6 seasons obviously they are getting their $10 worth. Some people might like pay what you watch since some months you might not watch anything.

at $10 a month Netflix is the ultimate bargain. I mean where else are you getting access to that kind of content for that price? many people pay $100 a month for cable and then complain that there is nothing to watch (at least up here in Canada) due to poor content and so many channels that are playing the same thing at the same time. The $11.99 I pay for the top tier Netflix up here is about the least I can possibly pay for any media of any sort

From my experience, I left Netflix in Summer 2011 because of the lack of streaming content and went on to iTunes movie rental instead. As the oldest users started to cancel their subscription, there wasn't any incentive to stick around. They can catch up with Orange Is the New Black or House of Cards later on.

At $8 or $10, Netflix is still a great value. I can't really understand the angst over spending 2 extra dollars considering all the extra content Netflix is providing.

I don't think it's the $2. The $2 just woke dormant subscribers. $10 is perfectly reasonable IF you use it. But once you've seen everything you want to see then $5 is too much to pay. So the prudent thing to do is to unhook from Netflix -- sign up somewhere else that has different exclusives, binge there while you wait for Netflix content to refresh.

Original programing and exclusives ruined Netflix. I have been a subscriber since 2010 and I remember when they had almost every old TV show out there with not a original program in sight. Then I think in 2013 the first original program came. Okay I did not care until much licensed content expired then the exclusive crap went on other services like Amazon and Hulu which later on I had no choice in subscribing to them too.

I am not pleased about the increase and will most likely drop Netflix when there is nothing to watch as before I use to watch it at least 6 hours a day now I watch it less then 2 hours or even just 1 hour because I am running out of things to watch and no I hate all the adult originals so don't bring them up.

I cancelled it after they inteoduced the VPN detection BS

That was one of my reasons as well. Lots of TV series were inaccessible in an instant and I had nowhere else to go (buying a copy of a TV series is ridiculously expensive). I was also beginning to suspect that the catalogue shrank and shrank. My watch list was noticeably shorter and I could not see what was missing. I could click on certain genres, scroll down and reach the bottom quickly. The price difference between what is offered in the US and what is offered elsewhere made it seem really unfair.

Torrents are a godsend. You can find almost everything and quickly, even old stuff that you won’t even find on Amazon or eBay. What Netflix offers is not even a drop in a Cognac barrel. There is so much stuff out there and nobody offers it to us. To me, the Netflix catalogue is almost an insult.

If Netflix didn't rock the boat I wouldn't have cancelled. I barely use Netflix because they never have anything I want to watch, I left it active and just closed my eyes to it at $8 a month. As soon as I got the price increase email I cancelled my account. They should have just left it alone. Now I upgraded my Hulu Plus (which I actually use often) to commercial free. Comes out to $12 a month but at least I actually use it and now I'm not paying for 2 services anymore. You lost me Netflix.

Oh, and Cablevision just made Hulu Plus accessible via channel 605, so I don't even have to switch to my Smart TV or Apple TV anymore. Pretty sweet. Might sell the Apple TV.

Thats were people will go. You don't like the post, oh well.
I have a netflix subscription, but know people who just canceled, and that's their market now. Didn't know words like usenet or torrents offended you. Reality is, some people go there.

I go there every day just to prove a point. If i pay same or even more than others and get significantly less content then this is unacceptable. I don't care about bureaucrats and convoluted copyright and/or distribution and what not. It's not fair to the subscriber PERIOD. End of discussion.

Get rid of half of the original shows and secure licenses to more classic shows and movies. Bring back the Law and Order classic archives, SVU is absolute bile compared.

Also, the day they drop the X Files series is the day I drop netflix.
