The films are in their native active ratio but 720p content will have to be downsized to fit on the 1136x640 screen so it won't be in its native resolution.

Remaining with 640 pixels width helps the developers but hinders the quality of the video, even if its only marginal.

I wonder if Apple will add a 720p screen to the next iteration.

Does it really hinder the quality? I mean in a way that's visible to the human eye? I've watched some widescreen video on my iPhone 5 and it looks amazing - certainly as good as it looks on my iPad (3rd Gen) or my Macbook Pro. Sure, full 720p may be the native resolution but on a screen this small at such high PPI, does it really matter?

Honestly, these updates are happening much slower than I expected.

Redesigning even just parts of an app will take time for us developers, especially if your app has a highly customized UI. Apple gave us very little time to update, we've only had our hands on the iPhone 5 supported xcode for 2 weeks now. Plus it usually takes about a week for the update to go through.

Apps still work letter boxed, you can still use them, just be patient.

Don't blame the app developers. Apple didn't release anything official to us before launch, and even then the technical documentation is spotty.

So, for most companies it'll look like this
Announcement: September 12th
Allocate resources to research and design (contractors or inhouse): 1-2 weeks
Development + testing: 2 weeks
App store review time: 10 days

You're realistically looking at 6 weeks+. Yes, some companies can get these out quicker if they have lots of resources and don't spend a lot of time testing, but remember that most of us don't even have a hardware DEVICE yet to test on. Simulators have not proven to be a reliable way to test software.

Blame apple for their secrecy and review process. That's the bulk of the delay.

I don't have an iPhone 5, but when playing a video do you still get some horizontal letterboxes when playing a video in widescreen rather than full screen?

During the Apple keynote, videos looked like it filled the whole screen.

Who here agree with me that KayLee (Jewel Staite) is HOT!!!

Definitely! She's vvveeerrryyyy pretty :D;)

I use Netflix, I have found the content to be pretty good for the money and that's here in the UK where we get less then the US! So great to see this update. One reason I love Netflix is the fax it works on almost any electronic device ever made!! Well a lot of the current devices anyway haha.

Just going to keep this going.....Supernatural, Alphas, The Walking Dead, Mad Men...:D

Yep, I'm on Season 2 of Supernatural. I just have one comment - Sam and Dean need to learn how to turn on some lights! Half the crap they deal with would go away... oh wait.

Firefly, seriously? The show was ok and the movie was what the show should have been.

Alls I'm sayin' is that something better could have been used for this news like I dunno..... one of the Marvel movies on Netflix to coincide with the home release of The Avengers.

I completely understand the crap developers have to go through sometimes. Several friends of mine develope for iOS and mac. They are very vocal when issues arise. It was just a general observation. and yes, I do understand how un-updated apps work on my iphone.

Lol yeah for sure. I just finished all 149 episodes on netflix. It gets really good as you keep going.

Awesome! The 4" screen is a lot better than than 3.5" to watch Netflix on. Most of my major apps have been updated.

Firefly - best TV show ever!!!! Serenity - best movie ever.

KayLee wins hands down over Inara and Zoe. It's kind of a MaryAnn vs. Ginger thing.

P.S. Fox TV execs are idiots for canceling the show.

Facebook, Roccat and Temple Run to name a few were updated on day one.

I'd say probably not :)

Content is constantly down/up sampled, and when dealing with a _4_ inch display, it really doesn't matter. I've got a number of Pixar films ripped from BD source to various sizes and they all look good on my 4S (and the iPad, both a 1 and a 3rd gen).

The wider iP5 display lets to see a little more without any cropping, and if you're really worried about ultimate video fidelity, you're probably not going to be watching on a phone vs. a nice big TV with some good audio equipment.

Really? I would definitely take Zoe+Inara over Kaylee.

Why does everyone watch Firefly on Netflix? You don't have bluray?
