"You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I go get and beat you with 'til ya understand who's in ruttin' command here. Now we're finishing this deal,"

I'd say probably not :)

Content is constantly down/up sampled, and when dealing with a _4_ inch display, it really doesn't matter. I've got a number of Pixar films ripped from BD source to various sizes and they all look good on my 4S (and the iPad, both a 1 and a 3rd gen).

The wider iP5 display lets to see a little more without any cropping, and if you're really worried about ultimate video fidelity, you're probably not going to be watching on a phone vs. a nice big TV with some good audio equipment.

Indeed so.

The films are in their native active ratio but 720p content will have to be downsized to fit on the 1136x640 screen so it won't be in its native resolution.

Remaining with 640 pixels width helps the developers but hinders the quality of the video, even if its only marginal.

I wonder if Apple will add a 720p screen to the next iteration.

Why stop at 720? Why not 1080? or even better 4K? /Sarcasm

The issue with resolution has to do with the number of pixels/lines in a given space and how far away the observer is. That is why most videophiles say that 1080P on a TV smaller that 32 inches is a waste because at a normal viewing distance, 720 and 1080 are indistinguishable.

Yes, you could get 720 on a phone, but I really doubt that you would see any additional detail unless you got oil from your nose on the screen.

You can also listen to lossless music on an iPhone, but in almost every scenario
256K is going to sound just as good. Don't get caught up in the number hype. A retina display (iPhone 4 or 5) is designed to have enough pixels per square inch to make the pixels indistinguishable at a normal viewing distance.

Finally some action in the updates department! I keep checking for updates every day and I continue to be disappointed. Hear me, developers? I want it now. And I don't want to pay for it.

Firefly! Love that show... a shame it got canceled, one of best sci-fi shows ever.

We're working on it, trust me. It took me a day just to download the latest XCode and iOS 6 GM. Then, 3 days of testing everything, then 1 week of fixes. (My app crashed in 4 separate locations thanks to iOS 6). Thanks to the crashes, I was able to use Apple's expedited review, so my update is already out. Most other developers, who are just updating for the new screen size, have to wait for Apple's 7 to 10 day review time.

Firefly - the best TV show to ever grace this planet.

A couple of my friends strongly recommended this show, especially since I heart Summer Glau, I think she's one of the hottest women to ever grace this planet. LOVED her in Terminator SCC.

Why doesn't apple stick notifications up in the extra space?

Pretty stupid they have done very little with the added screen size

The pic makes me miss firefly (I own the DVD's..but still it should have been on longer)

But at 4", there isn't going to be any discernible difference between 720p and slightly downscaled 640p.

Actually, I'm finding a lot of the apps I use being updated quite rapidly for iPhone 5/iOS 6.

I guess I'm going to have to watch Firefly. Never saw it when it was on the air.

indeed, theres not a single aspect of iOS6 that actually takes advantage of the bigger screen.
