I’m so glad I decided to cancel everything I wasn’t getting for free or as part of another subscription (Max and Prime) and setup my Plex server. I can share it outside of my household (up to 99 people) with no additional BS fees and never have to worry about price hikes. I get it costs money to run these services, but enough is enough. This type of “growth” is unsustainable in the long run. I can’t believe people still bend over for these practices AND defend them. They don’t care about anything other than your money.

As someone who cut the Netflix chain off a year ago, I’ll say you don’t even need torrents, just some skillful googling and a good ad blocker!
The torrents go on a personal media server to allow for streaming. Plex or Jellyfin is the way to go with how these streaming services are raising prices and cracking down on account sharing.

Don't have so much time for tv-series / movies these days, but at times when I find something, I watch.
Have access to a lot through a service, that are both torrent and adds financed, so free for me. I have ad-blocker so it takes most of it.
Would never pay for a service like Netflix or Apple TV.
But I do have a YouTube, and Amazon Prime subscrption, that I am pleased with. But not for stream/watching movies/tv-series primarily.

Is their original content really must see TV? Cause it seems like there is no mass exodus from Netflix, so regular price hike for everyone like clockwork.

I thought streaming apps were suppose to cut the cable bill.
It’s costing more while also becoming more complicated: Do I have my Paramount+ through Amazon Prime or is it through Apple TV+, or Hulu. Is my Max account tied to Prime or is it through the Max app.

Netflix just had to pay Meghan and Harry tons of money for no talent, and now anyone who subs to Netflix is footing the bill. Well not me sir, for I be hearty pirate aarr.

i've been patient long enough. going to cancel my sub and just go all in on torrents. they push us to pirate i swear.

BTN, PTP, IPT, TL, RED is all i need. iykyk

5 years or so ago stopped using torrents and got into Netflix/Prime Video. It seemed a reasonable alternative - cheap and convenient.

Last year cancelled Netflix - does not justify the price for their ******** of very mediocre content and (main issue) no Vision Pro app. Amazon at least makes Prime Video iPad app available, Netflix blocked it.

Jellyfin/Infuse is a perfect Netflix replacement. Add TMM for organization - and you get proper titles/images etc. with a press of a button.

You don't randomly get 720p video because of network gremlins.

Also you're not told what to watch by a faceless corporate drone, because they're getting more revenue that way.

Yep, it was nice while it lasted. Back to torrents.

P.S. It is a classic move - Netflix started with low prices to get people off torrents first, then once they've realized they've built a monopoly - increased prices to milk users dry.

Pass the popcorn. This should be about the ninth time everyone is about to promise they are quitting Netflix. I don't know how to quit more than one time but many of us seem to know how to quit 9 or so times. Impressive! ;)

What are you on about? It’s like celibacy - I can easily do it at least twice a day.

We moved to streaming when Sky TV in the UK got to a price point I wasn't prepared to pay.

Now I am at a point where streaming is getting to a price point I am no longer prepared to pay,

A guy at work uses Netflix through cheaper countries, says he uses a VPN to sign up and then doesn't need that VPN to watch it, might be worth a shot if it does work as his Premium is like £6pm.

At least with physical media, I had something I was not going to lose and it had some value (albeit small) once I had watched it.

I kind of feel that streaming is best signed up for to binge watch for a month or so. You sign up for Apple TV+ for a month, watch as much content as you can then cancel. Next month do Netflix and then so on so you only have a single payment each month.

Netflix is 80% drivel, stuff that nobody in their right mind would watch so you are paying decent money for 2 or 3 shows. We only pay for Amazon Prime Video because we use Amazon itself regularly, I wouldn't dream of paying for just the video service as most of the stuff I want to watch is extra cost anyway!

Part of me understands why people get these shows by 'other' methods, few people must watch a TV show more than one, other than perhaps the classics.

Disappointing. Streaming services are simply rising in cost. At least there is no hike in my region. But it might be coming soon.

They will keep doing this while

n_customers_before x price_before < n_customers_after x price_after

I'm loathed to pay for anything these days though. Streaming is a crappy experience and 90% of the content is dire, disappears or isn't there in the first place.

Its subscribers own fault, don’t get addicted to this kinda crap, Netflix and all other stuf will change(have to) if people cancel subs on a massive scale.
I think it isn’t addiction, people are too lazy to cancel and the subscription fee isn’t too expensive (yet). The marketing trick is to have very small but gradual price increases- seems to be working well.

it's pretty clear big tech, including Netflix, have devolved into uncool, unfriendly and anti-competitive companies.

i believe piracy will explode in the following years especially outside the US.

As of January 20th, there's honestly no shame in buying Chinese tech products and using their services. During Trump's first presidency, Apple and co were still acting progressive.

I still have a subscription because it comes with my T-Mobile plan, but if I was actually paying for it I'd have cancelled years ago.
Same. I'm not seeing enough value to pay $9.99 for it, let alone $17.99. But I'll keep it as long as T-Mobile has that arrangement and doesn't increase my monthly bill significantly to pay for it.

That was the business model all along. Shiny happy face, get everyone hooked and then milk you.
