Why doesn’t Apple just buy Netflix?
I've been wondering this myself ever since they launched Apple TV+. It's very clear that they're going pretty full bore into the streaming market, calculating Oscar and Emmy wins, etc. The only thing Apple TV+ lacks, aside from a decent UI and user experience, is content. They could get the breadth and scope of content they really need to justify their ridiculous price increase by spending some of those trillions on buying Netflix outright.

In one respect I kinda hope they don't do this 'cause there's been a detrimental amalgamation of studios over the last decade or so and that's not a trend I want to see continue, but on the other hand... at least then I wouldn't have to sail the high seas so much...

It only lacks a decent UI, user experience and content? What doesn't it lack? A nice icon?

Actually, it's *simpler*. All they had to do was - NOTHING. They had to go out of their way and click the box to DENY the app for Vision Pro. The default for all iPad apps is to be available.

No it really isn't. Clicking the box means the app will run, nothing more. It doesn't mean that the ux won't be abysmal.

Apple even has guidance for this in the documentation for making iPad apps available on Apple Silicon Macs

The comments from Netflix seem petty to me. Maybe it’s not worth their effort now, but it’s another slap in the face of their customers. They eliminated the DVD service to push subscribers towards their original content and raised prices. Now they say we don’t care about new distribution channels that are nascent. Some of these executives speak without thinking first. Oh well…

Oh please, the Apple Vision Pro could run their iPad app, so this is all about how much money they can extort Apple for since Apple really needs streaming services to hold AVP owners over until the App Store has more AVP optimized apps.

I think it's time to drop Netflix. Their prices for 4K are out of control. Just subscribed to Paramount Plus. Lot's of 4K content and a native AVP app. Netflix can go ****w themselves.
Yes! And make sure to tell them it's because they don't have an AVP app. I'm no longer a subscriber but I might just contact them to let them know it's keeping me from resubscribing.

In the face of maybe 0.05% of the their customers. Insignificant compared to those they “slapped” with the crackdown on password sharing, and those they “slapped” with price increases. And those were all profitable for Netflix.

idk why people are acting shocked by this, this is the same logic as to why most companies dont port AAA games to macOS. The userbase isnt there to justify allocating resources to it.

"but they can just use the iPad app!!"
if they did this, people would've complained about how awful it is

"they should be investing early in le next paradigm shift!!"
I dont blame anyone for being weary about a new platform that Apple themselves doesn't even seem that enthusiastic about and requiring $3500+ hardware that only .0000001% of the population will ever own.
