Yawn. I re-subscribed to Netflix this week just to catch the end of season 4 of Stranger Things. I intentionally waited until the finale was released so as to not fall prey to Netflix's blatant scheme to get 2-3 months of subs from Stranger Things watchers. I'll be cancelling again before renewal. Hulu, Disney, HBO, and Apple will continue to get my streaming dollars for the foreseeable future.

I mean, just look at Apple's farce of a streaming service, it's easy to see why people would pay to use Netflix. Imo content is there, and it's easy to justify paying for several screens when several of the members in my household are all watching at the same time. I do agree they need a middle ground to get 4k with a lower screen count though.

As for 480p, need I remind people that the US of A isn't the only country client of Netflix and that in a lot of places, cellphones are the main device used for streaming, and it's a screen where 480p can make a lot of sense.

Farce?! I mean they don't have a ton of content, but they do have some of the best content on the market. Ted Lasso and Severance are two of the best shows on tv right now, and their other content is pretty damn good as well. Finch, Coda, For All Mankind, Mythic Quest, The Problem with Jon Stewart... the list goes on... all top rates and fantastic content. Also it's only $5-6/mo... so totally worth the price.

If that's the argument you want to make, then they should offer 1080p as the basic tier in the U.S. where TV's are extremely common.

Stop charging extra for 4K you luddites.
There’s that word again.
You’ve been reading the “Android tablets are dead” thread?
Another service called Frndly has 3 levels and the least expensive is SD.
Speaking of ads, there’s a big one right here making the screen bounce around.
A little respect for people trying to post.

Right? Forcing people to get 4 streams to get 4K in a single house hold just makes no freaking sense unless you end up sharing. Hell, offering different streaming quality solutions depending on your plan makes no sense in 2022. in fact, they are the only streamer with this kind of business „strategy“ as far as I know. Obviously it’s not working for them either
In the UK we have nowTV (nowtv.com) which is a big player. It offers the usual Entertainment, Sports and Cinema packs in SD but you can add the separate 'Boost" pack (which gives you HD and 5.1) for £5 a month. The idea being the more content packs you sign up for the better value the Boost pack.

Not even 4k. The real kick in the teeth is the 5.1 doesn't work on the Apple TV app for some reason.

It's the fact you have to pay extra for HD/4K, whereas every other streaming service includes that in the price.

Partnering with Microsoft will not do much. Netflix is money hungry. My membership with Netflix will stay canceled and not planning on going back to them any time soon.
You might be correct. Long time Netflix member but it's going to be difficult to hold on if they push us away w/ higher price and ads now.

I had NowTV and refused to pay the extra for HD, and only ever when they offered it for really cheap.

I hope those 10 people that have Netflix accounts that we all use the login for decides to pay for no ads. 🤣
