Sorry for your situation. But again, should Netflix and other companies allow your grandparents tp use their content for free because in your case it makes things difficult for your grandparents. Should they set up a special arm of the company to hear out specific sob stories and make selective exceptions? You seem rather upset for no reason. I wasn't commenting with a straw man. It was my personal use case. Don't make a blanket statement if you don't like the responses. My grandmother has dementia and stays at home all day and often thinks her husband is her deceased father. It's hard enough setting up technology at their house. Now I have to set everything back up with their own accounts, except when she sees new charges on her own account she goes ballistic ... and then forgets ... and sees the charges again. So this is going to be a nightmare to address. I appreciate your empathy though.
I agree it’s surely a well-researched plan I just think in the longer term there will be more shrink from this model. Sharing likely locked people into paying for Netflix longer than they otherwise would have… now that it’s going to be individuals making decisions it I think customers will be more likely to sign up and then cancel once they’ve consumed whatever they like. The results Netflix has seen in other countries (Canada, Latin America, etc) where they started cracking down on password sharing way before than in the U.S. has shown otherwise. As they noted in their most recent earnings report, they will see a modest decline in the near term as people cancel, but revenue growth and new account sign ups increase over time.
Not only that, but a lot of people (about 1 out of 4) who are signing up for their own account are opting for the $6.99/mo Standard with ads plan. There are over 5 million people on the Standard with ads plan now which also by the way is more profitable than their $9.99/mo Basic plan.
Are you receiving any kind of compensation or reward for defending a multi-billion dollar conglomeration? Or do you just enjoy arguing with others?Sorry for your situation. But again, should Netflix and other companies allow your grandparents tp use their content for free because in your case it makes things difficult for your grandparents. Why Netflix instead of those you listed? Why does anyone bother with Netflix? Gosh, Tubi, Pluto TV, and Plex have added so many good (and legally free) movies with ads to watch that I no longer see the point. Surely it's not for their garbage programming.
WHAT??? Why would I want to cancel. Because you told me so? Who are you? I find enough to watch that makes Netflix very much worth it. I have the top tier 4K plan. They have plenty of good 4K and Dolby Atmos content. I've discovered movies that I like that I probably wouldn't have known about if not for Netflix. I don't need to save money.Everyone should cancel their Netflix account. Save yourself some money and a headache 🤕
Sharing a Netflix password is no different than a library sharing (lending out) the books they purchased. But to your eyes, the library is probably aiding and abetting in theft. 🤣If their sharing their login with 4 other non paying people, is absolutely is stealing. What planet do you live on?
🤦♂️Sorry for your situation. But again, should Netflix and other companies allow your grandparents tp use their content for free because in your case it makes things difficult for your grandparents.
You could have paid the $7.99.You seem rather upset for no reason. I wasn't commenting with a straw man. It was my personal use case. Don't make a blanket statement if you don't like the responses. I'm going to be doing that, but I still have to set everything up since it requires a separate account still. It's a whole thing. 😕You could have paid the $7.99.
You're like the frog in the pot slowly boiling to death. Some people are idiots, they buy $7 grande frappuccino’s twice a week they down in 10mins but one month of Netflix for $7 bux OMG 😭😭😭
If you’re not paying or too cheap then you’re not a customer, you’re entitled. Good riddance!
That people are “outraged” that they can no longer easily ‘steal’ content - that’s bizarre.
It's always so weird to me to see people take these kinds of greedy cooperate moves and defend them for free. Why are you happy that you now have to pay more money for a worse service? Why does this satisfy you? How does this benefit you? Password sharing only became "stealing" when subscriber growth no longer became satisfactory. Before that? Apparently, it was love...Excellent news.

100%Should be yet another wake-up call that us sweaty nerds that whine loudly on the internet about things do not represent the masses.

Netflix used to be fine with it and even encouraged it is the point. So how can something be selfish when the company themselves encouraged it and then took it away? It seems people have a right to be upset with Netflix's policy changes. To share that for "free" is selfishness.
Companies or corporations that sell for consumer discretionary products or services will do what they do and you have the option to do business with them or not. It's always so weird to me to see people take these kinds of greedy cooperate moves and defend them for free. They encouraged sharing with the household, imo, not with 400 of your closest friends.Netflix used to be fine with it and even encouraged it is the point. No, they didn't encourage sharing with the household. One account is for a household. They encouraged sharing with the household, imo, not with 400 of your closest friends.
