You seem rather upset for no reason. I wasn't commenting with a straw man. It was my personal use case. Don't make a blanket statement if you don't like the responses. My grandmother has dementia and stays at home all day and often thinks her husband is her deceased father. It's hard enough setting up technology at their house. Now I have to set everything back up with their own accounts, except when she sees new charges on her own account she goes ballistic ... and then forgets ... and sees the charges again. So this is going to be a nightmare to address. I appreciate your empathy though.
Sorry for your situation. But again, should Netflix and other companies allow your grandparents tp use their content for free because in your case it makes things difficult for your grandparents. Should they set up a special arm of the company to hear out specific sob stories and make selective exceptions?

The results Netflix has seen in other countries (Canada, Latin America, etc) where they started cracking down on password sharing way before than in the U.S. has shown otherwise. As they noted in their most recent earnings report, they will see a modest decline in the near term as people cancel, but revenue growth and new account sign ups increase over time.

Not only that, but a lot of people (about 1 out of 4) who are signing up for their own account are opting for the $6.99/mo Standard with ads plan. There are over 5 million people on the Standard with ads plan now which also by the way is more profitable than their $9.99/mo Basic plan.
I agree it’s surely a well-researched plan I just think in the longer term there will be more shrink from this model. Sharing likely locked people into paying for Netflix longer than they otherwise would have… now that it’s going to be individuals making decisions it I think customers will be more likely to sign up and then cancel once they’ve consumed whatever they like.

Are you receiving any kind of compensation or reward for defending a multi-billion dollar conglomeration? Or do you just enjoy arguing with others?

Why does anyone bother with Netflix? Gosh, Tubi, Pluto TV, and Plex have added so many good (and legally free) movies with ads to watch that I no longer see the point. Surely it's not for their garbage programming.
Why Netflix instead of those you listed?

(1) No ads vs ads
(2) Newer content vs older content
(3) A majority of teens and young adults (the most valuable and sought after demographics by companies) prefer Netflix
(4) Garbage program? That's your opinion (though I agree with you that they do have a lot of stuff I'm not particularly interested in). However, you could say Netflix's subscriber numbers proves you're (we're) in the minority. People aren't going to sign up for and keep a service if they're not enjoying it.

Everyone should cancel their Netflix account. Save yourself some money and a headache 🤕
WHAT??? Why would I want to cancel. Because you told me so? Who are you? I find enough to watch that makes Netflix very much worth it. I have the top tier 4K plan. They have plenty of good 4K and Dolby Atmos content. I've discovered movies that I like that I probably wouldn't have known about if not for Netflix. I don't need to save money.

And about that headache. Netflix doesn't give me a headache (and I can't even image what you mean by "saving a headache"). What gives me a headache are all the nonsensical whinny posts I end up seeing.

I damn near canceled mine after it tried to make me buy a new subscription to watch Netflix on my laptop outside of my tv and Xbox 😂. I can’t believe people bought subscriptions when Netflix really doesn’t have ****

🤦‍♂️

No one is using anything for free or stealing. Get that through your head. Someone is paying for an account. And might I remind you, it's an account that allows for multiple and simultaneous streams. Suddenly, where those streams take place matter to Netflix now... when over the past 10+ years it didn't .

Lifetime, Freeform, and CW always seem to do well serving up trash TV for women and teenagers. Netflix has really locked down that formula. They're not going for prestige...they're going for absolute trash. It's what people want.

You could have paid the $7.99.

Some people are idiots, they buy $7 grande frappuccino’s twice a week they down in 10mins but one month of Netflix for $7 bux OMG 😭😭😭

If you’re not paying or too cheap then you’re not a customer, you’re entitled. Good riddance!

That people are “outraged” that they can no longer easily ‘steal’ content - that’s bizarre.
Excellent news.
It's always so weird to me to see people take these kinds of greedy cooperate moves and defend them for free. Why are you happy that you now have to pay more money for a worse service? Why does this satisfy you? How does this benefit you? Password sharing only became "stealing" when subscriber growth no longer became satisfactory. Before that? Apparently, it was love...

Wow. That tweet. Lol. Nobody on that side of the fence has an argument now.

Should be yet another wake-up call that us sweaty nerds that whine loudly on the internet about things do not represent the masses.
100%

Just like people complaining about sideloading, removing lightning, wanting a mini iPhone, removing charger from box, charging magic mouse from the bottom, etc...

Really sick and tired of people thinking they're talking as if they're in the majority on these things.

What is more concerning is that consumers are given more and more and more and then demand more and more and more. Is that enough mores, or do you need more?

Less than a dollar a day for hours of entertainment is a very good value. To share that for "free" is selfishness.

Companies or corporations that sell for consumer discretionary products or services will do what they do and you have the option to do business with them or not.

Netflix used to be fine with it and even encouraged it is the point. So how can something be selfish when the company themselves encouraged it and then took it away? It seems people have a right to be upset with Netflix's policy changes.
They encouraged sharing with the household, imo, not with 400 of your closest friends.
