I think most people will keep the service even though the cost is going up. Some might get upset, cancel and then resubscribe a few months later.

Good to have these choices. I honestly barely watch Amazon's original content, Sneaky Pete is good though and Patriot is fantastic.

The slew of good standup and big money series like Altered Carbon and Stranger Things is well worth the cost.

They also experiment with off the wall stuff, Maniac wasn't my cup of tea but the OA was enjoyable (I'm a sucker for anything with Brit Marling).

I'll continue paying, because it's still far superior to cable and has the more 4k content than anywhere else.

That said, the pace of their price increases is worrying. At $16/month, they're now more expensive than HBONow, which has an unbeatable back catalog of original programming.

It hasn't increased in over a year! My increase won't be for another 3 months, so make it almost a year and a half for a $2 increase!

Get a grip people. EVERYTHING IN MY LIFE that I use goes UP in price, sometimes daily (like gasoline in SoCAL).

I like Lost in Space and Black Mirror. Not enough to keep the service year-round; I can see myself eventually just subscribing for 2-3 months out of the year to catch up on those shows (if they're still around) and cancelling the rest of the time.

Netflix was definitely worth it before the previous price increase. When this increase goes into effect for me I'll be dropping to the non-HD tier, further increases will see me dropping the service altogether.

And there lies the problem. Nobody is making MORE money. Nobody is getting raises to reflect the cost of these increases. All these cable, online streaming services are raising their prices yet my, and most people’s, paycheck has been the same for years and years!

To clarify, by pace I meant rate as compared to the rate of inflation. Netflix's two-screen HD plan was $8/month in 2011, so it should be ~$9-10/month today if they stayed with inflation.

It's not a big deal though, I agree.

Comcast just added Netflix to my cable package. Just in time so I didn't have to drop it. I still have Amazon Prime video.

Am I missing something? This is what my Netflix shows. I've always had the "family" plan subscription since they offered it many years ago. So this is what I see, $13 and $14. If it goes up $2/mo, we'll keep paying for it. Spanish content for Grandma, cooking shows (The Final Table / Great British Baking Show), and me being able to watch Real Star Trek is pretty awesome (TOS/TNG/DS9/VOY). We enjoy a lot of the Netflix originals (Longmire, etc...). And yes, BirdBox was awesome.

Between Apple TV renting new movies (sometimes buying) and Netflix we're good. Of course, HBO Go when WestWorld and Game of Thrones come back is a must.

Purchasing The Orville through Apple TV has been amazing. Love that show a lot.

Netflix Originals that my wife and I have enjoyed:
House of Cards
Narcos
Stranger Things
The Crown
Ozark
Santa Clarita Diet
Longmire
Black Mirror

Cable Girls

I have both Netflix and Amazon Prime and rarely use either. It looks like I’ll be disappointing the kids and dropping Netflix. Not at all worth it since they’ve dropped the Marvel shows.

Where are all the people who said that Netflix pulling out of allowing new costumers to pay though iTunes would make service cheaper. What is this just a week later smh

Netflix is perhaps trying to increase prices somewhat slowly so that people get used to that (just like gas or cigarettes or others similar products that had increases due to taxes or oil prices through time)
I don't see this ending well for anybody, Netflix has a great service, apps, everything but it's content is starting to dwindle and while they have a few hits they are not replacing all shows that will bail out.
On the other side other providers, even great content producers like Disney, just won't be able to offer to covers what Netflix was doing a few years ago.
They are all expecting that people will subscribe to at least 2 or 3 streams at the same time.
I don't see that happening. I am currently paying 60 euros for TV, FOTH and 2 LTE cards. I am not going to pay more or less the same to stream TV.

I 100% agree with you here! Not to turn this political, but Wall Street sees things differently than Main Street.

But, small increases are expected as the cost of doing business increases. Behind the scenes, their debt costs go up as interest rates rise, health insurance benefits increase MARKEDLY every year...dozens, if not 100's, of things increase the cost of doing business even if payroll never increases.

Not to mention, as subscriber-ship goes up, don't their equipment and transmission costs go up. Heck, the rental cost on the water cooler in our home went up $4/mo. And NOTHING changed there as it's still the same old water cooler I've had for years! (I should mention, though, that I did cancel the water service as they jacked everything up equaling about a 30% increase per month).

I am so sick of tech companies rising prices with nothing to show for it.
I think you can blame the content providers for that. They started loosing advertising revenues after people started cutting cable and in return, they increased their licensing fees to make up the differences. That means shows get more expensive for Netflix to rent and they have to pass on the costs to the consumer. You can't blame Netflix for what is basically the natural way for the economics of digital entertainment content to evolve into.

Cancelled Netflix last year. Something attracts me to Netflix, will add a month at a time, then cancel when done watching. Applies to all the other over the top channels. Working nicely so far and about $500 in savings without missing the key shows. :D

THIS is what will save cable. All these content providers are bailing on Netflix. Making their own services. This is going to back fire and push people back to a single all inclusive provider. Like cable. Whether it be a streamer version(most likely) or the old box. The majority are not going to pay $8 and $10 or more a month for each network/studio’s content. That’s ridiculous. Imagine shelling out $50 a month for just five networks plus your internet provider. Now you’re doing this while making $13 an hour.

In many(probably most) markets the taxes alone for cable cost more than what Netflix changes per month.

Since I have Netflix for free through T-Mobile, this won't hurt me, but jeez, the people who do pay month to month are going to reach a breaking point eventually, especially with every damn studio/production company jamming out their own lukewarm streaming service. My only hope is that these fragmented streaming services collapse and implode, and Netflix can come roaring back with 3rd party content.

I'm currently on: Netflix (free w/ T-Mobile), DirecTV NOW (grandfathered plan $35 + HBO), and Amazon Prime.

I only pay for Hulu and Showtime during the months that shows on their platforms come out (The Handmaid Tales and Shameless respectively), but other than that, I'm not willing to pay more.

Well it's $13 a month for Netflix HD. You are comparing Apples to Oranges $16 a month 4k HDR Netflix option to the HBO GO HD.

True. The bigger point is, come on HBO, get it together and upgrade to 4k. Or are they worried it would eat into their UHD sales? I've been tempted to rewatch GoT from the beginning in 4k (esp since I watched much of the earlier seasons on my phone or on hotel room TVs), but I don't want to buy it one season at a time...
