They never encouraged it outside of the household
Netflix was cool with you sharing your password... as long as you weren't selling them. This included sharing the password with those outside of your household.

... if you share your Netflix password, don't worry. The company isn't coming after you.

In a statement to Business Insider, Netflix said the following: “As long as they aren’t selling them, members can use their passwords however they please.”

You, sir or madam, do not have children in the house.

Keeping up with what kid wants which show on which service is a never ending rotation of frustration. You let one service lapse thinking none is using it... Oops.

We used to subscribe to so many different things, could not keep up with it. Had to make a spreadsheet.
Simple.....Donate to your local PBS affiliate get Passport and stream ALL the kids content free. Tons of it and FAR FAR FAR better than the "children's" trash that is on Netflix etc....

People are sleeping on Kanopy. If you have a free library membership that works will them you get up to 10 movies a month some of them being new releases. Much better than other services unless you’re a heavy watcher.
I have a Kanopy account but have not used it much. Do different libraries have different…..libraries in Kanopy? I have a couple library cards. Would it be worth signing in with both to access different content or is it all the same?

They never said to share it outside of the household. The article quoted is so general as it could mean share it, but only in your household. Said another way can't confirm or deny.

"As long as they aren't selling them, members can use their passwords however they please". However I please is exactly that, however I please. That means I can use my password within the household, or outside of the household...if I please.

What an insulting thing to say.
Apologies then. That's not how I intended it. I meant that wages are going up. And if you look at the stats, for the last several months, the increase in wages has outpaced inflation as measured by the CPI.

Also those that use Netflix are hooked on it. There is no way they will leave for a few bucks.

Yes, got it. That is your interpretation. It's not mine. Similar to the slogan: "what happens on the iphone stays on the iphone". It's a slogan and not a statement of absolute truth or direction.

Once my kid is off to college, I'll be cancelling Netflix. I'm so tired of these prices creeping up as if the service deserves it. What's different now from 8 years ago when it was half the price (for the high end tier)? This is unfettered greed, yet again.

Maybe but also the wages paid to Netflix employees and the increase in the writers contract and when the actors come to an agreement huge wage increases for them. Pay people more, companies charge more. This is what causes inflation.

In my State of WA min wage is close to $20/hr. McDonalds makes $25/hr....Guess what, my family of 4 now pays close to $58 for burger/fries and drink including the 10% sales tax. That is due to peoples wages. When they were paid $10/hr it was more like $25 for all of us to eat.

Labor is one of the lowest costs for the food industry….

US wages generally have lagged behind the rest of the developed world. But US companies have been amongst the most profitable. The idea that labor negotiations should lead to higher consumer prices is questionable at best. This country can afford to pay its workers more without significant price increases on the consumer end.

I’d submit that the connection you’re making between wage increases and massive consumer price hikes is spurious.

When they were paid $10/hr housing was also more "affordable." The issue is systemic. Stop blaming underpaid employees for your expensive food when the company selling you food is raking in record profits.

There is no way to interpret this, "As long as they aren't selling them, members can use their passwords however they please" in any other way other than members can use their passwords however they please as long as they aren't selling them. This is plain English. If you want to interpret this some other way, you are free to do so. But, any other interpretation would be incorrect. You could take what was said to mean 2+2=4, but that doesn't make you right.

It's looking as though Netflix is increasing prices on a certain schedule. They've been alternating between January and October price increase announcements since October 2017.

Oct 2015
Basic = $7.99/mo --> $7.99/mo
Standard = $8.99/mo --> $9.99/mo
Premium = $11.99/mo --> $11.99/mo

Oct 2017
Basic = $7.99/mo --> $7.99/mo
Standard = $9.99/mo --> $10.99/mo
Premium = $11.99/mo --> $13.99/mo

Jan 2019
Basic = $7.99/mo --> $8.99/mo
Standard = $10.99/mo --> $12.99/mo
Premium = $13.99/mo --> $15.99/mo

Oct. 2020
Basic = $8.99/mo --> $8.99/mo
Standard = $12.99/mo --> $13.99/mo
Premium = $15.99/mo --> $17.99/mo

Jan. 14, 2022
Basic = $8.99/mo --> $9.99/mo
Standard = $13.99/mo --> $15.49/mo
Premium = $17.99/mo --> $19.99/mo

Oct 18, 2023
Standard with ads = $6.99/mo --> $6.99/mo
Basic = $9.99/mo --> $11.99/mo
Standard = $15.49/mo --> $15.49/mo
Premium = $19.99/mo --> $22.99/mo

Which would mean next price increase announcement is in Jan 2025
If only wage inflated as much as cost....

I think your numbers are a bit on the high side. The current minimum wage in Washington state is $15.74/hour and will go up to $16.28/hour in January (highest in the nation). Average wage (past 12 months, according to Indeed) at McDonald's is $16.14/hour in Washington state.

8.8 million new subscribers vs the 5.49 million expected. And they expect the same number of new subscribers for 4th quarter 2023.

And people here said their subscriber growth numbers wouldn't last, that it was a temporary due to password crack down.

The last time they got anywhere this high a subscriber increase was during the pandemic (10.1 million subscribers adds in 2nd quarter 2020)
The concept that Netflix, or any company, will expand forever is a major flaw in our economic system. I am not smart enough to know how to fix it, but this cannot go on infinitely. Soon, only the 5% will be funding the 1%. The rest of us will be trying to figure out how to live day-to-day.

Possibly the subscribers are from India. Here we have plans starting from $2.5 pm.

Create your own server with Plex. It is much cheaper than being gouged by Netflix et al.
This comes with a multitude of issues though. You're then responsible for managing a server and making sure it's accessible at all times. This means patching/updating, making sure the Plex service is running, managing storage/drives etc. This is not a reasonable solution for most people.
