The concept that Netflix, or any company, will expand forever is a major flaw in our economic system. I am not smart enough to know how to fix it, but this cannot go on infinitely.

Netflix executives know this, but it is irrelevant to them because they exist to show how well they are doing at the next quarterly report. Said executives are there to work for a few years, get millions of dollars in compensation, and then leave. What happens 20 years from now is of no concern to them.

If someone presented this to me, I would laugh them out of the room.
How many negotiations are you in that have national, political ramifications?

Have you seen how elected legislators offer up bills and amendments?

Many are wildly out of line with what will ever get passed.

But the goal is to inch the political process more towards their liking.

The UAW is playing national politics, trying to move the ballgame more towards what they wish.

Yes, I do. I am in them all the time. If someone presented this to me, I would laugh them out of the room.

Especially if, like the executives in these companies, you’re making 300, 400… 500 times the amount of money the average worker at your shop makes per year. You’d have ample reason to laugh in that scenario. And that’s why the UAW is striking. It isn’t right that their work leads to record profits for their employer but results in reduced real time wages for them.

We’re really straying into waters that aren’t up for conversation on this section so maybe it’s time to move along…

Netflix seems to be the only service that cares if you're watching 4K or not.

It seems like Hulu, Max, Showtime, Apple etc learned to ADAPT THEIR CONTENT TO THE TV years ago. But Netflix seems not to know how to do this.

We recently made this same calculation. One more month of Black Friday prices on Hulu ($1.99) and Peacock ($.99), Disney+ Annual expires Nov 12th, then it will just be Apple TV+ in the high tier Apple One bundle. The kids have surprisingly easily adapted to nightly Snoopy instead of Bluey.
'Surprisingly' Apple has deep pocket to produce these two heavy weights: Killers of the Flower Moon (Scorsese, Leonardo DiCarpio, Robert DeNiro) and Napoleon (Ridley Scot, Joaquin Phoenix). Can't wait to see those two free on home theatre. Looks like Apple is trying to collect as many Oscars as possible.

No, it's not.

"Consuming" a physical item (e.g. eating a meal) isn't the same as "consuming" digital content (e.g. downloading and watching a movie, downloading music, downloading a PC game). That's why there are different legal terms to describe different things.
Its different but you are still illegally taking (from wherever the file is) and consuming something you would normally have to pay for.

Everyone cheered on the writers and actors attempt to get more money. Here are the results!

The industry in general seems to be cutting back content. I see this pay raise as a pyrrhic victory, because I predict there’s going to be fewer jobs going round. So a small number of scriptwriters and actors are going to earn more, while the rest will not be able to find gainful employment.

The correct response for Netflix moving forward is quality over quantity. Be more deliberate about what content they green light and fund. Maybe then they will finally be profitable moving forward.

Eventually I’ll commit to month to month on them. Have like 10 subscriptions still, just turn them off until the show is complete. I just hate paying so much for something I don’t really use. I never cared about spoilers anyway.

I prefer Amazon Prime:
Free shipping, easy returns
Free movies and series
Free music.
Free?

Cut the cord, they said.
You’ll save money, they said.

Right? $23 is quite hefty, especially if you are subscribed to other services. This is just going to bring piracy back.

I don't find that much value on Netflix anymore, I think Max and Hulu have better quality content. The streaming services I have are either included on something I purchased or free. Also, my cable subscription has on-demand capabilities, I am able to watch pretty much anything I want already.

The irony is because of all the shenanigans with streaming I went back to cable, and cable's been treating me better. As part of my cable package I get unlimited access to streaming content from my favorite channel Adult Swim, as well as being able to access the simulcast through streaming.

So because of this the only streaming I watch anymore is Adult Swim, and free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) services like Pluto TV and Tubi.
I mean, that's wonderful and all, but cable TV does not have shows that that are exclusive on Netflix, Disney, Hulu, Peacock etc. while those streamers (in some mix) will generally have all of what cable has to offer scripted wise.

So cool - you now pay more for cable TV and you get to enjoy less programs WITH commercials.

Wait... so you think that Netflix wouldn't have raised their prices if the artists weren't striking?

I'm still cheering them.
Sure? Just like Taco Bell would have raised prices without a global pandemic, but it wouldn't have been for as much or as fast.

Writers now get MORE Money. Actors will get MORE money. You know who is going to pay for that? You, the consumer. It's going to get passed on.

Ah yes because Netflix wasn't already raising prices before this. Amazing how people shill for huge companies and **** all over the workers who make it possible.

More than you have been in or will ever be in, that I can assure you. The fact of the matter is that I negotiate contracts that are worth more than your entire bloodline, weekly. The UAW can reach for the stars all they want. They will never grab them with these insane demands.

Streaming services have commercials unless you pay more….
Cable also has stuff that streaming services don’t have.

Just curious... how much is your cable TV subscription?

And try to separate the TV channels from the internet service if you have a cable modem.

Most cable companies offer a discount if you bundle TV channels with internet. So I'm always wondering what the actual cost of the TV service is in different markets.

And also factor in the cost of renting DVR boxes and whatnot.

It's often said that "cable is cheaper than streaming" but there are additional costs with cable TV.

Then there's the age-old argument "with cable I'm paying for hundreds of channels I don't want? And it has commercials?!?!?"

So you have that to deal with too...

😋

Yes, my example is obviously with the ad-free version, as "cable tv" does not offer that at all.

Cable has very little scripted shows you can't stream on one of the streaming apps. I'm sure you'll find a few random examples, but streaming is going to have more exclusives and you can come and go as you please, unlike "cable tv"

It's looking as though Netflix is increasing prices on a certain schedule. They've been alternating between January and October price increase announcements since October 2017.

Oct 2015
Basic = $7.99/mo --> $7.99/mo
Standard = $8.99/mo --> $9.99/mo
Premium = $11.99/mo --> $11.99/mo

Oct 2017
Basic = $7.99/mo --> $7.99/mo
Standard = $9.99/mo --> $10.99/mo
Premium = $11.99/mo --> $13.99/mo

Jan 2019
Basic = $7.99/mo --> $8.99/mo
Standard = $10.99/mo --> $12.99/mo
Premium = $13.99/mo --> $15.99/mo

Oct. 2020
Basic = $8.99/mo --> $8.99/mo
Standard = $12.99/mo --> $13.99/mo
Premium = $15.99/mo --> $17.99/mo

Jan. 14, 2022
Basic = $8.99/mo --> $9.99/mo
Standard = $13.99/mo --> $15.49/mo
Premium = $17.99/mo --> $19.99/mo

Oct 18, 2023
Standard with ads = $6.99/mo --> $6.99/mo
Basic = $9.99/mo --> $11.99/mo
Standard = $15.49/mo --> $15.49/mo
Premium = $19.99/mo --> $22.99/mo

Which would mean next price increase announcement is in Jan 2025
I certainly hope you cut-and-pasted that list from somewhere. Rather than typing it yourself. I feel the life draining out of me just typing this response.

once they take away my $9.99 Canadian basic plan (which you can't get anymore but if you have it they haven't cancelled it yet) I am done. I barely watch it at all
