From Netflix's site, 1GB per hour for streaming SD and 2GB per hour for HD.

Now, if we could just get some real competition on service providers... We need a new player!

As soon as Netflix confirmed it's presence into Canada, Blockbuster started offering UNLIMITED movie rentals (this excludes New Releases) for under $10.00.

Blockbuster still exists??? Wow, that place has sucked for so long. As long as it's been open. I'll be so happy the day close up shop. The one down the road from me has to be the biggest eyesore on the street.

Sweet, they actually did make it available today.

I probably won't get cable when I move. I don't watch a lot of TV so this will suffice. All I really care about are my hockey games, and I can get those online too.

Interesting note. I'm staying with my parents as I save up for a downpayment, and they have Telus TV (which I hate) and Telus High Speed Internet and Telus is not recording our data consumption (the website always says 0 GB used). I don't know if it's a glitch or not, but I'm going to (and have been) take full advantage of it.

So I live in Washington and am heading up to Whistler for 5 days. My billing address and account are obviously US-based. Will I be able to stream Netflix while I'm in Canada or will my device's location outside the US prevent that? If so, are there any methods around that I could use on my iPad?

Thanks.

Yes, TERRIBLE. Because all those movies and TV shows that were great when they were new are TERRIBLE now that they're old. :D

/sarcasm

Netflix and Hulu plus are.the way to go. On paper, at first glance, Netlog seems lacking....but once.u go online and add to your instant Que...it gets much better. Plus for 8.99 you also get.one.movie rental at a time.

Add that with the excellent Hulu lineup and you get excellent options for 20 bucks a month.

So... how about that great selection of movies, eh fellow Canadians?

Let's hope it improves. Soon.

It's not that bad, a bit better than I was expecting, especially if you look back at when iTunes first started offering film and television content. That said, I do hope it expands in the future because at the moment despite being personally satisfied, I don't think it's enough to make a massive impact. Although, it's amazing that NetFlix took the steps to come into Canada and hopefully this will lead to a big step forward in terms of licensing content from within Canada. That's always going to be the hurdle to get over, I wouldn't put the blame on NetFlix (or Apple if you want to look at their store) for content that's unavailable.

I've used the streaming and the quality can be very good--picture quality anyway--but until they deliver their promised digital sound via proper Dolby Digital and DTS encoding, steaming is mostly worthless to me. :(

I'll stick to Blu Ray until that happens.

24"Imac and netflix

Is there a cable i can buy to get it on my Television that just has component??

The new Telus Optik TV uses your internet connection to bring you your TV signal. From what I have read, Telus cannot differentiate between the data going to your TV and what's going to your devices, yet.

So 15+ MB/s connection, unlimited. The fewer TVs you have on, the faster your connection.

Not on Optik TV, I need to call them about that. 15 Mb/s would be nice. I did wonder if they had a means of differentiating TV and internet data though.

Oh, I certainly don't blame Apple, or even Netflix. I know exactly who to blame. I'm confident it will get better soon (look at the selection in iTunes now), but I won't be interested in trying the service until that happens.

Yea I just check and many popular tv shows are not available in Canada.

Eg.
30 Rock
Weeds
Dexter
Glee
Etc etc etc.

This sucks. Lol
I'll just keep downloading for free thanks.
