I will be getting the Air if I decide to get one...I just love the bigger screen. The next thing will be finding the best deal on one. I know that around the holidays/Black Friday, some stores put them on discount, but not sure if/when that will happen this time around. Has Apple EVER discounted them? I feel like I remember seeing them for like $10 off once lol.

Wait a couple of months for a refurb.

I seriously doubt you will see these discounted any time soon. Apple has a pretty good grip on prices. Not even $10. :) Maybe educational pricing, or some super sweet corporate deal?

Usually 10% off every Black Friday on Apple Store. Although I think the Mini was exempt from the discount last year.

SSIA. I have never owned an iPad, but will definitely buy one within the next year. I was wondering what everyone thought as far as if I should go ahead and get the new Air model, or wait for the next release? With all of the negative blowback I have been hearing about the Air, I figured waiting another sic months to a year may be worth it. It is not imperative for me to have one NOW, but within a year it would be perfect. Thanks!

Get Ipad air on Nov 1st.

Yea maybe...although I have had some friends get refurb phones iPads and not be too pleased with them...typically have some problem with them fairly soon after purchase

Look at Apple's 2012 Black Friday deals for an idea of what you might expect.

If you can wait 3-4 months, then you might see refurb iPad Air's hit the online store; Apple's refurbs are typically indistinguishable from new (except the box), have a new battery and also carry the same warranty as new. I don't recall how long it took for ipad4's to hit the refurb store at apple.com

Not a problem at all. The refurbished models come with 1 year warranty as well so you can just head into the store to let them take a look.

Where did they get them from?

AFAIK, Apple hasn't ever sold refurb iphones. I've only seen them via third parties.

Personally I'd take an Apple refurb any day of the week, but would be leery of 3rd party refurbs.

Good to hear those responses about refurbs then...could've just been an aberration

definitely get it. it's a really nice upgrade, and product launch is literally the best time to buy a new apple product (at least from a buyers remorse standpoint). You should pull the trigger - it's a no-brainer. You won't regret it.

Buy at launch rather than wait for a deal? Idt ill have any buyers remorse if I am saving $$ lol, but any other reason to buy and not save?

There is always a chance the one you want may be unavailable because of the frenzy of folks wanting it and store availabily. You may catch a holiday sale but may be even less than 10%.

Ipad Air

Ipad Air has just minor improvement if comparing with last generation (Ipad 4). It is not valuable to purchase another one.

The core question is what's the value to you of having the device in-hand vs. waiting a few weeks to save $40 or $50.

2X the CPU and 2X the GPU performance is "minor"?

2X better Wi-Fi performance.

24% reduction in volume.

32bit to 64bit architecture.

Wow. It takes a lot to impress you.

Yes, they only made it a lot lighter, a lot thinner, boosted the CPU a bunch, and a few other minor little things... It's practically the same thing...

That said, those improvements may not be sufficiently valuable to you to justify making the jump, but that's a personal and subjective matter. (I'm not planning to upgrade at this time from my ipad3; must as I'd love the lighter weight etc I have other places to put $500 right now).

That said, from an objective perspective, the iPad Air is a pretty impressive upgrade.

We probably won't see official Apple refurbished iPad Airs for at least six months. I think it took that long for iPad 4 refurbs to appear on their site.

I will be very surprised if you find any deals Black Friday or otherwise to be honest. Even if you do they will probably be pretty minimal. If you really want one you might as well get one at launch. They hold their value pretty well so if you need to sell it down the road you should be able to get a good price for it anyway.

if I can save $40-50 I can wait for sure...looking back it seems like the iPad 4 had discounts from $40-60 on Black Friday last year

It does. If I remember correctly, discount was as high as $80 for the top end 64GB model so at least that's enough to take care of the tax. :p

As long as there are no supply issues with the Air, they'll probably discount it, too. Wouldn't count on discounts for the Mini, though.

Also, what do you guys think about as far as storage goes for these? I will not have a TON of apps, photos etc on it, but it won't be an empty device by any means. I only have 16 GB on my phone and wish I had more, but am wondering if I will find the same issue with an iPad.

People are just disappointed that there wasn't anything unexpected. Everyone expected thinner, lighter and faster. And that is exactly what they got.

I'm not saying this about the OP, but there is constant whining on MR that Apple is not revolutionizing the industry every year.

I'm on the fence about buying on launch day, it would be nice to read some feedback. But I've waited long enough to own an iPad. This time I'm going for it and want the iPad Air. No matter what you do, there will always be an updated version somewhere down the road. For those like me who don't own one yet, it's not that difficult to make the decision to go for it. If I had an iPad 4 or some such, then I'd be considering my options (wait, refurb, etc.).

I agree totally here...so excited to finally own one. Now I just need to decide between the white and black and a 16 or 32 GB model...hmmmm
