the dumbass just made a call to a number (checked online)
bitch wasted 3 of my minutes

Hah....do a reverse lookup on that number, or call that number under the pretense of being someone else to try to get more info from them about who just called.

Dude, RIGHT THERE! USE THAT. Get the cops on that number....Make them call and state who they are and just in general sound threatening and they'll easily give out the info. The theif just made the mistake of personally contacting someone using your phone. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT.

Or even better yet, spoof your cell phone number and call that number the thief called. Act like you are a thief who just stole the phone from the thief who stole it from you, and start laughing at the person from that number saying that you stole that guys phone. Make him give you personal info about the original thief. There is a phone spoofer on the 3rd or 4th page of this site: http://iphoneapplicationlist.com/ . Its supposed to be for iPhones but I think it'll work with anythin.

Call that number and say you are an AT&T rep. Say something like, "My name is (random name.) I work for AT&T. Our records show that you have (dialed or received) a call and/or message from (your number.) We must know who that recipient was. Failure to give us this information may result in cancelation of your wireless or landline account whether or not you are on our network." Or, narrow it down to a few suspects, and call them. Like every few days, try a new suspect. Call and be like, "Yo (suspect's name)?" and they'll be like, "Yeah?" and you'll be like, "Gotcha bitch!" or something like that. If I was in you situation, I'd do that, but, I'd NEVER give it to anyone again if I were you..

Sorry

Sorry about the loss man...but why in the hell would you take a $400 piece of electronics into a high school?

And assuming you're that nuts, why would you let someone else take it from you?

Have some common sense man.

Someone should create a iphone app that allows you to lock/destroy the phone with a simple text message to the phone. I actually have this feature on my Sanyo phone which allows me to text a secret message to my phone rendering it completely useless.. Nice! Sorry to hear about your loss

I know how you feel...well, kind of. I have TWO video iPods stolen from me. After the second one I said eff it, and I bought a 4 generation off of ebay for 100 bucks. I was reading about the new i-mate ultimate and how it can be traced through the built in GPS. To bad google maps doesn't offer that.

Can't the police trace a call? I don't know if they would go through the effort for just a phone, but hell, it's worth a try. Good luck man.

i have some, why not you get some

google for the number they called, you never know what might turn up.

Campus police are on campus to protect the students, not to investigate petty theft. I would suggest if you are planning on giving that information over to the police, that you turn it into the PD, not some high school security. Even if they are sworn officers, their duty is to monitor the school.

If you haven't canceled the line yet, or reported the phone stolen, you have a few options. Cancel it, the thief will have nothing to show for it other than a useless iphone, and that's probably the end of the story. Or keep the line open and monitor it for new calls. Track the calls with reverse look up, and with a little social engineering, you should be able to get it back with no problem. Or keep tracking them and finally turn it over to the police and hope they don't have enough to do, so that they can spend some time finding your phone. I'm a fan of the second option.

If your parents have homeowner's insurance (or renter's insurance), you should check with that insurance company. Often, they cover things like this - even when it wasn't in the home when it was stolen.

If you were responding to me, thanks.... but I'll check on my homeowner's policy and not my parents... I don't think they'd like it. :D

Use state farm for insurance. It is $15 a year to cover it for pretty much anything. (Lost, damaged, stolen, etc).

You have the right to use the campus police to help out.

To the moron that said (or that made it sound like that campus police are there to protect the students) is bull. If someone steals your backpack with all your books and belongings, who are you going to go to? The lost and found? The police can help, especially with a $400 item. (In some cases $600).

Remember, if you have passcode on the iphone, chances are the person that took it won't know, until it locked itself, then there is nothing to worry about. They also probably don't know if they keep getting, the iPhone gets disabled for longer and longer. Plus, the battery will eventually die, so the person that took it will have no use for it, unless they of course have a charger.

Let us know how it turns out today.

It seems like in high school there should be only about 20 people per class. Someone would have had to seen something happen. I'd get the campus police officer to talk to the class and make some good threats. Usually it will just "turn up" after something like that.

of-course... many people respond very poorly to threats and realize in that situation there is no good in snitching.

My advice:

Ask as many people as you can, that are in that class, about it. Someone in that class saw something and will help you. Also, consider offering a small reward for it, say $25-$50, and someone will likely turn honest to get the cash and rat the thief out...

Sorry bro, hope you get your isht back.

Heh, not all of us are on blazing fast new machines. My 1Ghz 12" PB chugs through H.264 sloooowly (even plain mp4 is slow). It's a bit discouraging when you start an encode, let it run overnight, and it is still going when you get back from work the next day!

I need a new Macbook...

BTW hope the phone turns up. I'm not sure what I'd do if that happened to mine.

Didn't mean to sound like an ass there, my bad. Im far from being on a fast machine though.

Good idea but their deductible is probably more then the cost of the phone...
