Does state farm offer a $15/year policy for personal property? More likely this is an add-on to existing policy holders.

I checked, and my policy (through USAA) excludes PDA's and cell phones.

Use state farm for insurance. It is $15 a year to cover it for pretty much anything. (Lost, damaged, stolen, etc).

your best bet is to speak to the tutor and ask if he/she might speak to the class and explain that someone seems to have "borrowed" it for a few days. Can they return it to lost property in a bag before (give a date).

This way you wont scre them into keeping it, they might understand what they did was wrong and if they have a chance of giving it back they might.

(dont flame me, I guess all angles need checking, sure if it was mine I would be threatening every pupil!)

Threaten the dude with a Colo... I'm pretty sure you'll get it back.. just kidds.. DON'T DO THAT ;)

yeah

hell yeah you should threaten someone with bodily harm (but do NOT shoot up the school, that's WAAAAAY OVERBOARD).

They stole your iPhone and therefore deserve it.

People are too big of ******* nowadays.

the person who has my phone called another person. i was able to figure out who that person is through a friend. the police officer that has been helping me out since yesterday said he is going to talk to her the first thing in the morning, and make her tell him who she has been talking to on my phone, hopefully she will and he will be able to retrieve my phone from the theft. ill post an update tomorrow when/if i can

debating on pressing charges or not
what do you think?

good job man!

she will fess up to the cop, don't worry about that. it's not like she's going to lie or act like nothing. the cop could always check her phone.

and yes, press charges to the fullest.

I'd flip. I wouldn't be waiting around at all; not because it's an iPhone but because somebody stole MY personal property.

As well, if you paid on credit card (I know you didn't, but for those who do!), most have a built in insurance kind of deal where they replace it if it's stolen, lost or broken.

I eagerly await the outcome. Hopefully something actually happens to the thief.

I'm going to be the descenting opinion here, I know it. Without knowing a lot of details behind the story, I would not press charges. The only reason you want to press charges at this point is to exact revenge. You would have gotten your phone back. If you do not get it back, then I would say without a doubt to press charges.

If you press charges after you've got the phone back, you will probably incite a revenge response from the thief as well. Remember, he stole your phone to begin with, so you'll have to be the bigger man. It's a slippery slope to go on if you constantly try and get even. I've been there, trust me...it doesn't end nice. But like I said, I don't know the kind of characters you're dealing with. I only know the kind of people that did that crap where I grew up, and pressing charges didn't do anything to deter them. Usually it ended up with a fight, beating, stabbing, etc.

But it's not my iPhone that got stolen. I'm just speaking from experience. I don't know the kind of people you're dealing with, etc.

The only thing I would ask is what kind of justice do you hope to accomplish after you've gotten your phone back, by pressing charges? Revenge isn't justice, even if it's carried under the letter of the law.

im probably not going to end up pressing charges, but will for sure talk with my ap's (assistant principles) about a school punishment iss, suspension, expeled idk whatever ill find out tomorrow

I find it kind of funny that if my iPhone gets stolen in school, I already have one suspect who is basically the *OMG I'm so cool! Everybody loves me and how I talk so much. "Hey wanna hang out... No? Okay maybe some other time"* kid. He asked me what would I do if he stole me iPhone. I lied and told him I have insurance, and he was like "So I could technically 'steal' your iPhone and you'd get another for free?" And I got witnesses too. I'm actually looking forward to it.

Im really sorry about your iPhone getting stolen. That really sucks. I had this thought after they came out. Id be afraid to use it in allot of places because it stands out so much and is such a desirable thing to steal. You kinda need to treat the thing like its money or a credit card. Somewhat surprised we don't here more about peoples iphones getting stolen.

I let everyone use my phone at school, even strangers. I know they're not going to take it, because if they do, they know i'm going to beat their ass :]. Pays to have a good rep in high school.

Most other times it's always with me, never unattended.

thats how it is with me i guess, im not going to lie, im not a small guy and i know damn well i intimidate ppl with my straight face(hear that a lot)

but i let a friend borrow it knowing nothing will happen to it with her taking care of it, but someone decides to go through her stuff and take my phone

If your parents have homeowner's insurance (or renter's insurance), you should check with that insurance company. Often, they cover things like this - even when it wasn't in the home when it was stolen.

Good idea, but most deductibles would be larger than $400 so it really wouldn't help.

I ALWAYS get insurance on my expensive gear, nothing could happen but if it does you know that it'll get replaced.

I don't understand why people buy applecare .etc. when independent insurance is the same price and will cover accidental damage, theft.etc.

for anyone in the UK that's interested i use CUSC and they're really good, even when you get a new phone in the middle of your subscription with them, just send them the details of your new one and they switch the cover over to that one.

always worth it.

Dude, that's the longest lasting battery in cell phone history!!

The person probably has an iPod and plugged it in to add their own content and it charged while that was going on.

It's likely the person making the calls bought it from the person who stole it. Why else would they be making calls? The first thing I'd do if I stole an iPhone would be to remove the SIM, go into AT&T and say I bought this off Ebay, give me a new SIM....or jailbrake it, but for sure remove the SIM immediately. You're lucky they didn't and I do hope you get it back, but either the theif is incredibly stupid or they sold it to someone telling them, "yeah it's on a pay-as-you-go plan, I already paid for this month, so you just have to pay next month to recharge the minutes."

In a day or two, the person who thought they were getting a deal at $200 will be very pissed and hopefully give up the seller.

I think you are giving the thief way too much credit! They're just playing with their new toy. I hate thieves!
