It's likely the person making the calls bought it from the person who stole it. Why else would they be making calls? The first thing I'd do if I stole an iPhone would be to remove the SIM, go into AT&T and say I bought this off Ebay, give me a new SIM....or jailbrake it, but for sure remove the SIM immediately.

Plus if they could do all that, they are probably reading this thread!

today my father suspended the contract.
tomorrow im going to call and see if they person will be able to reactivate or if its down forever. and if they would be able to track and see where its at (most likely not)

we still have it narrowed down to 25-30 kids in the one class so the officer is going to question them and see whats up

if i dont get it back, unfortunately im going to make my friend either pay me or buy me a new (didnt want to do that to her, but i really want my/a iphone back)

ill see what happens

Pick the person most likely to have done it, kick the crap out of them, and let them know you will be working your way down the list.

Trust me you will get it back :)

i wish i could do that, but my high is highly over-populated and that runs the risk of being kicked out and being sent to my home school (a very bad school)

so hopefully the police officer finds some stuff out, or my friend pays my back

Definitely have the iPhone SIM shutdown...

and then report the iPhone as STOLEN to the AT&T CSR, and the POLICE. I'd estimate that someone has already switched out the SIM card and is enjoying a new iPhone at your expense. When you get a new iPhone, you can purchase personal property insurance at about $33.00 per month through an insurance broker at any large insurance company. You can also register your iPhone and download wallpaper stating "Joe Shmo's iPhone" "If you found this iPhone please go to www.ifoundyouriphone.com" you must have your iPhone engraved or marked with a number or a name that can identify you. NEVER lend my iPhone to ANYONE!!! Let them use your bluetooth as you hold the iPhone and dial the number for them!

I doubt the person that took it knows how to unlock the iPhone, let alone get the sim card out of the iPhone. They probably think the slot at top is for memory or a reset button :D

I wouldn't think it is that hard to steal a phone in a classroom and not know who did it (Only 20-30 people in the room). It's not like leaving it out in the open and someone takes it. That's why i let my friends use my phone freely. I know them, and they know me. I know they aren't going to give it away or just flat out steal it from me. Considering the fact i'm 1 out of 2 kids in my whole school that has one, everyone knows it would be mine.

I have a shell script set up on my iPhone set up to automatically connect to my computer and check a file to see whether the phone has been stolen. If my computer returns a file contents of "1", then it will open a reverse SSH connection into my phone so that I can do whatever I need to, including using Navizon to find out where the phone is physically located.

That is mostly because I am a highly paranoid person.

Also, if anyone is interested, The Summer 2007 issue of 2600 has a pretty decent article about setting up the infrastructure for a reverse SSH connection.

I am sure that there are also guides posted online, but I always love reading their articles!

my dad has been talking with her parents, trying to resolve my dilemma.

All that paranoia is undone in 1 click of "update iPhone"
