So all ports on every other system by every other manufacturer are level and equal with the top spec of said port, regardless of price or how low end it is? Don't talk nonsense.

Yes. Only Apple has a tiered product structure to punish their consumers.

I cant say I understand why the Cellular upgrade is 170€ for the 9th gen and 200€ for the 10th though.

Same reason the Watch has a cheaper cellular upgrade on the SE vs the S8. It's purely because Apple feels that this is what the market will bear. :)

I wasn't even interested in the base model iPad, but every single thing we've learnt about it is really putting me off Apple and shows what their intentions have come to by pushing everyone to the more expensive devices, at the compromise of shipping extra products/parts. In terms, causing more electronic waste and extra resources
  • no magnetic strip for pencil gen 2 = pencil gen 1 with dumb adaptor backflipping on save the environment idea entirely
  • no laminated display on a "new" device this expensive, surely wouldn't have cost them any more to use the exact same display & shell from air 4/5
  • USB-C limited to USB 2.0, welcome to 2000 Apple
I suppose it's kind of similar to how the 2017 iPad Pro 10.5" became the more expense 2018 11" with flat sides, lost the headphone jack, got usb-c, got a Folio instead of a Smart Cover, but what feels different to me this time is that it's the lowest end.

And while I think the 10th gen looks attractive with the "industrial design" I'm wondering if now that the bottom finally got there it's a sign that the top of the line is going to be changing.

It's a massive increase here it's true. But you're comparing a price you can find an old iPad at and how much Apple are selling the new version for. Really, you should compare what Apple is selling them both for, for the right comparison; and that's 439€ for the 9th gen. When the 10th gen stops being more than a day old, it too will be able to be found reduced.

I cant say I understand why the Cellular upgrade is 170€ for the 9th gen and 200€ for the 10th though.
True - but this is more or less what i said. I just compared the price today (other resellers do not offer the iPad 10. Gen. for much less than Apple right now) and i hope that it will go down over the next months. Simply from the customers perspective, someone who want to buy an iPad right now...
Time will tell.
And i fully agree what you said about the cellular option. This is just insanely expensive.

I use the 12.9 models personally, compared to the price of those this all moot 😂

Winning and complaining. If you don't like it, don't buy it, simple as that. As my dad used to say to a friend of mine, " are you bragging (how much better gadgets you have) or complaining ( I wanted it but wait till the price comes down).
There are folks that, if they had nothing to be aggrieved over, there’d be nothing else for them. I’m just glad that Apple provides them plentiful opportunities because who knows WHAT they’d be up to if they weren’t so focused on Apple’s goings on. :)

And here I was contemplating getting an iPad finally this year... then I see this one released with it being overpriced and it's Apple Pencil $10 dongle and this... and the iPad Air with peeling screens? (wtf) ... Anyone looking for a decently priced or more economic iPad in a more modern form factor should SKIP this generation. Maybe even the next one, we'll see... Such a mess...
I’d say that for anyone that don’t see an iPad they like now, then for them, 100% of all future Apple iPads…
a) Will most certainly have a feature set they don’t like
b) Will most certainly have a price they don’t like
c) or some combination of the two

Unfortunately, waiting actually won’t help as the current line up is what Apple expects will sell a good number of iPads and they’re most likely right.

Just open FB and within a few articles there's baity articles to complain about

Well, in that case, why don't they use a plastic body instead of aluminum to save even more per unit? Lots of other ways they could've saved money but didn't.

I personally couldn't care less about a slower transfer speed in a base model iPad. If I were using an iPad for professional work requiring frequent high speed transfers, I'd be looking at an iPad Pro anyway.
It seems like an unnecessary compromise in 2022 to still be putting in 2.0 speed ports. Especially if the savings per unit is $1 or something.

I'm not sure what the reasons are. Many will say it's to boost sales of the more expensive iPads, but if that's the case, then why don't they advertise this difference? Since they don't, I doubt that's the reason.

I used to transfer files using a cable from iPhone/iPad to a Windows computer but after I found an app that I can use to transfer files wirelessly [Wi-Fi] that has been the way I transfer files except when it is a transfer between iPhone and iPad where I use AirDrop...
winxmac, what app do you use?

So I just got in touch with Apple support and asked them what USB version the iPad 10th gen has, and THEY DON'T KNOW.

Why not? Because Apple doesn't release that information to their own support.

I'm attaching a screencap below.

I was also given a link to where we can request that Apple include that information.

Here it is: https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad/

Note: the more people that request Apple releases the full specs, the better our chances of Apple actually listening.

Probably because that would be a VERY rare question that probably 99.9% of customers wouldn't ever ask a support rep (they wouldn't care about the version, only whether it worked or not).

It wasn't just a general customer support rep. It was a technical specialist.

To quote:

I have to set your expectations, this chat line you are on, is technical support. If your questions are technical related, like the specifications of the device, I can answer those.

And he also didn't know how much RAM it had, which I think would be more common.

With desktops and laptops, maybe, but I don't think most people think about RAM with iPhones or iPads, especially the lower tier ones.

I'm also guessing that "technical specialist" can probably only answer questions from info on the tech spec sheets for any particular product.

I respect your opinion, but I think there's many who do want to know those facts.

All Apple had to do was include it in their specs, which they didn't, even though they include a bunch of other specs like operating ambient temperature...

SendAnywhere is what I use to transfer photos and videos from iPhone/iPad to a Windows computer... Before discovering the app, I only used iTunes and connected the iPhone/iPad to a Windows computer using a cable...

Some helpful links from their website:
Is an Internet connection required to use Send Anywhere?
On what devices can I use Send Anywhere?
Snapdrop.net might also be worth checking out. It’s pretty much like AirDrop, but works across various devices/platforms, including Android and Windows. It’s also P2P, your files aren’t sent over the internet or to another server. (Snapdrop FAQs)

You are correct that is not the sole reason for the current declining sales, but this is not going to help when you combine this with the price hike for mostly recycled old tech Apple had widely available.
Are you talking about the iPad? Where the previous model is still available for the lower price?
